My favorite Friday the 13th movie is Freddy vs. Jason, but this is a close second favorite. The concept of the movie is very interesting and different compared to the others. Creighton Duke is my favorite protagonist in the series. Jason's design is one of my favorites. The ending with Freddy's arm coming out and grabbing the mask is one of my favorite cliffhangers. Yes, there are inconsistencies with the rest of the franchise, but it's done in a cool way. I have seen a couple of the Friday movies before this (3, 5), and this was the one that got me into the series. There isn't much of anything negative I have to say about this one. This was much better than Parts 5 and 8, although I enjoyed those ones to certain degrees, and this is miles better than Parts 1, 2, 3, 10, and 12.

Great job reviewing a film that I also really enjoyed. At least the unrated version anyway. It's unique, it's different(A good difference not a bad one), it's got great gore, fun action sequences, good performances by most of the cast, solid direction, excellent effects, and for once it's a horror film with a male lead who kick ass and takes names.(It also helps that he kinda looks like me...so I can envision myself beating Jason's ass. lol) It's the Hidden II if the Hidden II wasn't a piece of shit. I truly do feel that this is one of the most underrated horror films out there. It's entertaining, it's clever, and it's bad ass. This does not deserve to be among the worst of the worst in my opinion. I love Jason Goes To Hell. And I don't feel guilty about it either.

I actually liked Jason Goes To Hell. I was glad that these early 20 something film makers didn't just go by the formula and phone in their performance. They actually did something very unique and bizarre and I think Jason looked the scariest in this one. His mask was basically burned/embedded into his head. If you listen to the DVD commentary on this film, you can understand it's NOT to be taken TOO seriously. It's still a good time.

I still have the three issues of the comic book that came out when the movie did! Each comic came with 3 trading cards and the first issue cover had Jason ‘s mask on it that glows in the dark! They never released the NECA Jason figure for this film,but they got them for all the others,except Pt. 1!

It just doesn't feel like a Friday the 13th film. Parts VI, VII, and VIII work so well because they bring fresh ideas to the series but they also don't get too far away from what the series is.

I think Fangoria had a interview with the makers back in 1992-93, were they said that Jason Takes Manhattan didn't happen and they continued the story right after New Blood, why Jason is still around. Look at the mask, it's the same one from the original series, and yeah, I know, it's strange why Jason still has the Shelly-mask when it was destroyd in part 7.

My only real big problem with this movie is I love the Duke.But his back story isnt explained.I really wanted his connection with Jason to atleast be explained just one scene with him saying this is why I studied Jason an want to kill him.

Great job with the review. I also like this film. Even though Jason isn't in the film that much, his presence can still be felt throughout the film. I was fine with the idea of the body swapping because this isn't the first time in the series where supernatural stuff happens. Does anyone remember when Jason was resurrected by a bolt of lightning or when he went up against a girl who had telekinesis? What about the times when he could teleport in the previous film?

That's one cool screen name that you're using. As far as seeing Jason unmasked is concerned, it looks like the hockey mask is welded to his face. It might be the result of Jason's exposure to toxic waste in Jason Takes Manhattan.

They Originally wanted OJ Simpson to Play Creighton Duke. What do you think of that?

Not to call you a weirdo in a negative way or criticize but a movie where a coroner is somehow possessed to eat Jason's heart and a bounty hunter named Duke thinks of Jason Voorhees as a young little girl wearing a pink dress sticking a hot dog through a doughnut is a movie you like?
@ramboraph4life Жыл бұрын
Yeah...because Part 5 (one of your top 3 favorites) has nothing like that, where a pinnacle scene is a guy needing to take a dump in an outhouse cause he ate too many enchiladas.... I don't mind part 5, but am I calling you weird for having it in your top 3? Nope. I like part 9 for the reasons I said in the video.

Tony Todd would've made a better Creighton Duke than Steven Williams. Williams was a poor choice IMO. He was too short and too old-looking (with his gray-haired goatee) to convincingly play a badass, world-famous bounty hunter that can break fingers with one hand.
@JOONBUGFILMS7 жыл бұрын
I always felt like Creighton Duke is still alive.... but I just a could be kinda cool if they continue this and just have a blank may be in a back brace or he's in a wheelchair.... I was actually kind of writing a Friday 13th fan script where Creighton Duke is alive and him and Tommy Jarvis our team meet up to kill Jason.... and to save the the teenagers

I can probably say that out of all the Friday the 13th movies there are, this one would definitely be my top favorite. Maybe not the best, but I think it is a great and underrated horror film. I like the story, the characters are interesting and the idea of Jason's spirit possessing people which was similar to the First Power and Shocker. I really enjoy the Stephen character because when I first saw him I thought he was going to be a victim, but instead he survives and he kicks Jason's ass again and again. He did a better job than Tommy. I liked the Creighton Duke character, but I wish he had more to do or that they had a scene where he fights Jason too. I liked the Book of the Dead cameo, the gore was great, and I liked the final fight between Stephen and Jason, I liked how he was a husband and father protecting his loved ones from Jason. Kind of similar to Hills Have Eyes 2006 remake with the Doug character doing the same thing. Anyway still a good movie and my favorite of the Fridays.

Great review Matt I also love this film I just wished they would have included the unrated cut in the blu ray set only thing they did was put the digital copy code in it for the unrated cut which is not the same but other than that I love the blu ray set.
@jimrice408011 жыл бұрын
Actually, Jason Goes to Hell is only loosely connected to the first eight movies--so Jason did go to Manhattan but he wasn't killed by toxic waste that destroyed his body and turned him back into a child.
@cinematicworldofbenji93113 жыл бұрын
I personally thought this movie was awful and the 2nd worst in the franchise, but I respect your opinion and I’m glad that you enjoyed the movie. If you guys like the movie, that’s pretty cool. I like hearing your opinions on movies that you find underrated, Matt and we can all have different opinions. I just think this movie makes no logical sense and had lack of creativity, but I can watch this as a time waster and take it over Jason Takes a Boat to Vancouver which is the worst one.
@ramboraph4life3 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest, none of the Friday the 13th films have any 'logical sense'. Even the first one doesn't have that (a 60 year old woman throwing people around through windows like potatoes and so forth). To each their own.

Uhm, I really cannot remember which was the very first F13th movie that I've seen, but I think I saw it, or them around 1985/86... I really love Kane Hodder as Jason or into other roles and when I heard, after a long time since part 8 that another jason movie would came out I was really happy.. Sadly I really missed Kane Hodder/Jason in this movie and it really disturbed me at the time. I have to agree about John D.Lemay performance, I've enjoyed him also in the tv series first, the effects in this movie are really good and yes, it was funny in general BUT, I sincerly think Marcus haven't hit some important points... First of all, I've never thought that Jason or Pamela Voorhees were evil, that wasn't the original concept of the first 2 movies. Pamela was a beloving mother and Jason I always thought was much more an animal/force of nature protecting his territory and searchin' vengeance for his mother death (much more in the second chapter rather than in the others but ok) In this movie you see the Voorhees house filled with occult/devilish stuff (like the Book of the dead) and this stuff it's very hard to be accepted as a fan growned up with the original story... Pamela wasn't a kinda of crazy satanist at all O.o FvJ confirmed the original conecept aswell. In my thoughts Newline was too much influenced by the supernatural base of A Nightmare on Elm Street Series and tried to put some mystical stuff also into F13th... I also like a lot Jason costume for this movie but something seems a bit "fake" to me... I mean, something really seems a "man in a costume" stuff.. Also, as a "vintage" F13th fan I can fully understand why most of people haven't appreciated this movie... when you go to see a Friday one you expect to see Jason and pretty much the "Same Movie". This is a good standalone film but absolutely not a Friday one neither a Slasher in general

I really didn’t like this movie I mean what was the point of having Jason in the movie if you’re just gonna kill him off and his spirit is possessing people I mean that’s a really stupid fucking idea and Adam Marcus the director had no fucking clue what he was doing he was like a little kid playing with a broken radio because he just put a lot of pieces together in the film that made no logical sense and Kane Hodder really looks like he’s wearing a cheap latex Halloween mask, I mean the make up affects for Jason‘s face looks absolutely ridiculous because it’s like I said it looks like a cheap latex Halloween mask, The characters I didn’t give a shit about, Creighton Duke was a useless character and what really bothered me is the fact that he had a lot of knowledge on how to destroy Jason which makes no fucking sense because the movie never bothers to explain on how he even came across the knowledge on how to destroy Jason I mean that part should’ve been given to fucking Tommy Jarvis the only character who has had the most experience with Jason, it’s such BS.
