I saw a lot of negativity towards Jason in Arkham and comments saying he is too “whiny” and “emotional” but considering what he went through he has every right to be and correct me if I’m mistaken but he only acts like that to his father and family that being when he finally revealed himself to Bruce (and Barbara in those audio tapes) he managed to reveal his vulnerabilities and vent and dropped that tough exterior after a long time of staying strong. He was aching to break down and confided in two people he deeply loved. Plus him asking how is Alfred was also deeply touching and shows how important and goated Alfred is to the Bat Family. After the events of the main story in his dlc his personality isn’t “whiny” at all and even if he still was it is understandable. Poor guy went through hell and that Arkham VR nightmare with his screams as he was getting tortured by the inmates, Harley and others of Batman’s Rogues Gallery is horrifying to listen to. The Arkham version of him is probably the most broken version of him mentally and I deeply sympathise with him. Also his Red Hood design is great, it’s my second fav design for him personally and his gameplay is satisfying.

I personally found him whiny as the Arkham Knight persona. Not when he reveals himself or even as Red Hood. Either way, love the character. Probably my favorite member in the Bat Family

I think the issue is not that we didn't understand where he came from, but how much people preferred the version from Under the (Red) Hood. In the comic and the movie, the plot twist (?) was that Jason never held a grudge against Bruce for not being able to save him but for not avenging his death (probably unaware that Batman tried, but comics don't want to remember that part). So it became a battle between an unwilling father and unwilling son, trying to convince each other that their way is the correct one. Jason, in particular, only wanted Batman to just compromise on his code for Joker but Batman didn't even want to do that, which further fractured their relationship. To me, that was brilliant writing to illustrate how even after Jason turned out to be alive, Bruce still couldn't save him. Arkham Knight gave reason to why Jason is acting this way, but sacrificed the intrigue of their conflict in Under the Red Hood. Jason siding with the criminals to kill Batman is just not interesting to me. For a game series that got the character of a lot of these comic book characters right, we at least expected Jason's iteration to be on point too. Then again, who else is he supposed to go after since Joker is dead? I kinda wished they didn't make Arkham Knight's identity be Jason. He was already playable as a DLC with his own story mode so I think people would have been content if he wasn't the main antagonist. At best, he could have played the same role as the other Bat Family members did. Him going after Harley or some other villain with the aid of Batman where they work together as unwilling teammates and clashing over how to deal with criminals and/or working through their problems would have been great to see. Even if Batman couldn't get Jason to change his approach on crimefighting, him and Jason resolving their issues before Batman fakes his death would have been a nice culmination of their relationship. But here, it's just villain Jason that didn't even have a good boss fight. It doesn't help the fact that the story of Arkham Knight made it very obvious that Jason was Arkham Knight from the get go, not even letting us get shocked. The comic made Red Hood's unmasking shocking and while the animated movie didn't, it made his motives be the most appealing. But seeing as how Jason's writing has been in comics these days, I guess Arkham Knight's writing is much better. They are least got his portrayal in the DLC right.

Am I the only one who was emotionally disturbed for a good long while after watching Jason get tortured in Arkham Knight? Its such a drastic change from the comics but makes the story all the more depressing where Jason wasn't even granted a 'quick' death via crowbar and being blown up. Here he literally gets held by the Joker for over a year, being subjected to all kinds of torture and mental torture to the point of breaking him mentally. It made me really think that these kinds of things DO happen in our real world and those scenes of Jason getting tortured, begging for help from Batman and being mentally broken really stuck with me. For better or for worse.

Both the scum that do these things and get away with it, AND the people that stay oblivious and ignorant, who think they know it all. And when fiction tries to portray these types of evils, they either don’t take it seriously because this evil isn’t “realistic”/“pure unjustified evil isn’t interesting” or it doesn’t sting/disturb them as personally something extreme like abuse. Like I see people say that some stories are bad because they glorify abuse which I can get behind but Joker literally gets away with torturing a kid and everyone praises it and is insensitive to how emotionally disturbing it is

The Arkham series and comics really portrays just how evil, depraved and psychotic The Joker really is. More than any film has ever done in my opinion. I genuinely didn’t know the reason Jason went after The Joker was because he murdered kids and done sadistic things with their corpses, he really is one of, if the not the most evil, but at the same time, interesting villain of all time.

I know a lot of people had a problem with the Arkham knight being jason Todd but I loved it. After playing City I always wondered about Jason. Joker says “looks like you could use a new side kick” in Arkham asylum so we knew he was in the universe. I liked how he was the Arkham knight because it showed what can happen to someone if the joker messes with your mind. And joker was messing with Batman’s mind throughout Knight.

@@AshEnded I personally disagree with that statement. I personally like the Joker being a pure monster who kills and tortures for fun. To me that's a vital part of his character, along with being obsessed with Batman, unpredictable and clown-like. The Joker HAS to be a bloodthirsty monster who commits atrocities for the sake of it. I actually dislike it when they make him a bit more human and it's not a clearly "alternate" take on the character (like the Joker movie). Like in the No Man's Land comics where he murders Gordon's pregnant wife and doesn't find it funny or when the first Suicide Squad movie showed him being genuinely in love with Harley. Part of the Joker's horrifying aspect is precisely that he kills for no reason. We always try to give ulterior motives for horrifying crimes so that they still seem kind of "understandable", at least there's a logical, practical reason behind them. But the Joker kills and tortures simply because he likes it. There's no greater reason about it. That makes him seem inhuman and unscrutable and thus even more unpredictable. There's no rhyme or practical reason. Just his twisted sense of humor and sadism. And it's terrifying on many levels. And about Batman, it's a proof that Batman's philosophy isn't perfect. Everybody will agree that if there must be a single exception to his no-kill rule, it must be the Joker because letting him live means letting him kill more and more people. Thus the Joker is the ultimate test to his rule: if Batman doesn't kill the Joker, then he won't kill anyone. Of course, this is just an opinion.

One thing I actually really like in the Arkham Knight origin is the idea of Jason being Slade's partner for a while after his "death." Batman and Deathstroke have had prior conflicts, and so have Deathstroke and the first Robin/Nightwing. I would think that a resurrected and vengeful Jason would want to learn assassination arts from one of the world's greatest assassins, and Batman's toughest enemies, as a way to really get under Batman's skin. Also, the currently upcoming Suicide Squad game had/has some potential to add Red Hood to the list of future content. This game is set in the Arkhamverse and Batman returned somehow, so surely Red Hood and the other sidekicks could be fighting Brainiac's onslaught both in and out of Gotham.

10:08 I like, how, although it’s clear, Jason hates Bruce at this point in the story, in a twisted way. It sounds like he still at least respects that Batman is fighting crime and corruption. (in fact, there is a theory that states Jason would’ve taken up the role of a vigilante after killing Bruce to fill the void left behind, as he knows, just killing Batman, and would cause a lot of issues for Gotham. After all, he doesn’t want revenge on Gotham city, heck, he made sure the entire city was evacuated during their attack, he wants to revenge on Batman. Jason should’ve been Red Hood throughout the game with his voice disguised. Would’ve been awesome where Batman tries to identify him and Red Hood leaves trails of dead criminals for him to see and shoots a supervillain dead that Batman tries to take to GCPD. The torture took place a while before asylum took place. The batgirl dlc in arkham knight takes place before the events of Arkham asylum in which tim drake is already robin. I assume joker was torturing jason around the time of the batgirl dlc. But jason escapes with deathstroke during the batman vs titan joker boss fight.

Batman not being able to find Jason for 2 years is just insane. I know "two wrongs don't make a right", in regards of Batman not killing joker but doing so would have prevented a lot, is not necessarily about the actions but should be more focused on the outcome. Batman is 100% justified killing Joker. Deep down Batman is a masochist and I believe that he, unintentionally, forces this way of living on the people he loves making me believes he didn't want to find Jason as it would result in Batman realizing this exact truth he will never accept.

Actually. The scar on jasons cheek isnt a burn mark its a scar from a knife. If it was a burn mark it wouldn't look like it did it would be very different. For a burn mark the J would be darker and be burned into his skin not be above it. However a scar from a cut would look exactly how it did for Jason

@@WilliamOwens-fg9fi The joker actually did kill Jason in asylum, but he was later revived in the Lazarus pit. (That’s what happens in the comics and I don’t have a reason not to believe it’s the same in the Arkham-verse)
