Nah. They never will. Neither will Europe. Why? Well, mostly because we just have different discipline. If you look around in western cities, chances are you'll find waste or graffities in less than 4 seconds. In China, people were properly raised. They think it is bad to throw trash on the ground etc. With this cultural difference, we can never achieve to come close. The average westerner is not as hard working as the average Chinese. Not making assumptions based on the individual, but group. We'd first have to discipline our population before we can even dream to get where China is right now. It won't happen though, we are just too hostile and chaotic to do it. Sad, but true.

As a German geologist, having traveled the world during the past 45 years because of my job, may I share a little observation? It's not only the US that can't compete with China anymore. It is the whole western world, including Europe, that won't be able to compete not only with China, but with South East Asia in general. The pendulum has swung, against the old colonial powers, of which the USA is just an offspring,....towards Asia and perhaps sooner or later South America. I have seen the poverty in those countries.....and I wish all of them very well! Cheers from Berlin

Our tax intake is lower, our wealth and GDP per capita vastly higher. We can do what China does in a heart beat, we choose not to because that is what capitalism incentivises unto us in our part of the world. In China, capitalism does what the government tells it to, in the west, capitalism is left to do whatever it wants to... "In China, you cannot change the politicians but we change our economic policies to meet the needs of our people. In the west, you change your politicians all the time but never the economic policies to meet the needs of your people" - Chinese diplomat in the UK a few years ago. Meanwhile: "Democratic elections must never be allowed to alter economic policy" - Wolfgang Schäubles to Yanis Varoufakis in 2015. And people wonder why the west is in decline. It is in decline because of capitalism and the capitalist minority that own our governments. If they tried to do in China what they do here, they would be shot, figuratively speaking.

why would western media just show chinese cities for no reason besides looking pretty? many countries have pretty sites and scenary... its more likely your own country's media would show off your buildings...unless its tourist sites to promote, makes no sense for western media showing these buildings. you dont see chinese media talking about other countries marvels either

@@harimakenji7608 Of course it counts - it all counts. People are not complaining about why western media doesn't just "randomly" talk about pretty things in China - people are questioning why the only thing we see in western media are negative things about China. I think the answer is obvious - China got a lot of things right, and the proof is there right in front of our faces! Instead of looking how China has managed to deal with homelessness, western media tells us that the Chinese "hide their homeless" 🤣 Instead of looking at how China has transformed its cities within a 30 year period, western media tells us that Chinese buildings are falling apart. Instead of looking at China's sensible approach to preventing a property/housing bubble built on speculation, western media tells us the real estate market in China is collapsing. What China has achieved in a mere 30 years is nothing short of breathtaking, yet western media will only focus on small irrelevant negative things and will blow them out of proportion as though it's a major crisis in China. China's infrastructure (which is what this video is about) is a perfect example of how China gets so many things right.

@@weizhang2834 I would go about it more scientifically. US now has 15 cities having metro and it has 1/4 of China's population. Therefore if China were as developed as the US in metro then there should be 60 cities with metro. Since China has metro in 51 cities so to add metro in another 9 cities will match the US, The number of metro systems depends on also the cities configuration, population and layout, I think the number of metro systems in China is about right and China may add more metro when the cities are ready for it.

I'm american, always been in america and grew up thinking it was the cream of the crop. Until I started working for the grand canyon railway in a small route 66 tourist town just south of the grand canyon. A town I lived in for many years since a teenager. I dealt with people from all over the world constantly and the asians would tell me in their own way that america is much behind where they came from. My last girlfriend was Japanese and her mom had lived in japan most her life and she would tell me the same thing basically. I started watching KZbin videos from different cities in China and Tokyo about 2 years ago and was pretty surprised at just how far behind america is from those places. America is archaic in comparison. If you dropped me off in Tokyo tomorrow, I would stay there forever. Same with many cities in China. Our media fills our heads with nonsense about China, the people there all seem to be living perfectly happy lives in every video I've seen from there, yet I turn on the news and hear about how bad it is for the people there and how horrible of a place it is. America and the western world in general is being purposely destroyed from within by its enemies from long ago, who infiltrated their governments long ago. Wasn't tough for them to do considering they own the banks and control the wealth. But anyway, stick around, China is going to win it all.

I visited Gangxia staion yesterday. Truely out of this world. I even lost inside the station. Could not find my exit. Amazing feeling even living in China. Come visit China, friendly, clean and so safe. Live like a king with our Social Security Dollar, it goes a long long long way in China. China is not an evil. Welcomes everyone to enjoy good and happy live here.

Jason, thank you for doing another good episode on China. I remember in the 80s, Deng visited many countries to see how far China has fallen behind the world. He took the opportunity to learn and send compatriots out to study and bring back knowledge to build the nation. However, the West claims that they are there to steal their technology. Whether it is "steal or learn", they produced fantastic results. This time IF Blinken goes to China, perhaps he should learn something new to bring back to The US to help its people and rebuild the nation. Recently visited LA and Vegas. It is heartbreaking to see so many homeless camped on the roadsides and the airports look like countries sheds compare to airports in Asia, let alone of those in China.
Does chinese build and give houses to citizens? Do they have to pay the long mortgages

@@hesh2892 Yes, Chinese also have to pay mortgages to buy the house. In large cities, people usually should pay 3M RMB (About $450,000)to buy a 100 sqm apartment, and in Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen, double or triple it. Most of the money comes from mortgages, which should pay for 30 years. But except for like 20 largests cities in China, in other cities which population are lower than 5M, the price for the same apartment can down to 1M RMB. Actually, in small cities there're many apartment buildings have no one living in. Not because people can't afford, just because people crowd to the large ones.

Various London tube stations can be modern, but not as nice as the Chinese stations. The recent upgrade to the Long Island Rail Road connection to Grand Central Station is probably the best in America, but it’s still way behind anything in China.

I'm speechless!!! It is wonderful. and I thought that our line "A" in Buenos Aires was the best, with its 1910 trains, which operated until a few years ago. Thank you very much for showing us these wonders, totally unknown in the West. A hug from Argentina!!!

The Big Dig in Boston. The tunnel freeway started 1982 and finished in 2007. It was the biggest project in the history of the US. The 8 miles tunnel took 25 years to build with many years of delays (near 20 years delay), the estimate cost was 2.8 billion dollars and the final cost was near 15 billion dollars and shutt down nearly a year due of the ceiling collapse on I-90.

I've always found China so attractive. The culture, the food, the history. Seeing the rise of China is incredible and it gives hope to the world - and a lesson to never undermine others. China IS the new empire, and I for one feel happy about it. I don't need to agree with everything they do - and I don't - to admire their potential
