Forget Penn lapping it up, the top shot when the juggling starts has Teller thrilled. That's one skilled act and the comments for it were full of Teller's smile... which, in hindsight seems to happen every time he's delighted, or smiles, which is every video...

I suspect that Penn & Teller thoroughly enjoyed that act; it involved some classic tropes of Penn & Teller acts over the years. Most importantly, it involved putting Teller in danger and it had the classic Safety goggle gag where Penn would suddenly "remember" that the trick is dangerous so he shouts "I forgot the Safety glasses" and proceeds to get them, except Penn would them on himself and not give Teller any.
@rdutrabh4 жыл бұрын
To me "the other one" refers to the other rat trap. They only tested one side of it. They probably locked it, so it would be harmless. At 6:58 he presses the stick against his hip, releasing the card, at the tip of the rat trap. And the eletrical device was not real. Probably some LEDs. The sound didn't came from it and it wasn't in sync with the lights flashing. So the plunger was the "most dangerous" object.

It looked to me like he told Teller to "touch the back of a card" at 2:40 but Teller started to pull the card out of the deck. so he had to hold tight to prevent Teller from pulling that card out (that could destroy the force, svengali deck?). I think Teller then played along when he realized he should just touch a card.

The jugglers were hilarious. The fable is a concept I have used to help folks with bullying and put-downs. As a follower of Jesus and a person with experience in supernatural events, I remind myself that God’s opinion matters, and others’... don’t! If someone thinks I am slow, fat, lazy, ugly, or otherwise unwanted, I only need to remember that my Master is happy with my work for Him. So, I keep my focus on listening to my Master for direction.

To me it looks like the card shoots out of the "stun" gun stick as it explains the bulk of the stick. If you play it back real slow you can see it happen.
@Jeff_H_the_Guitarist5 жыл бұрын
I think he was referring to the fact there are two traps on the end of that stick. One is an actual trap. But the other trap is a device pops the card out. I'm guessing too that there's a button you press to make the card pop out. I believe it's on the end of the handle. Right after the juggler jumps over the other you can see on his second touching of the mouse trap device he jams the handle into his hip really quickly. Which I believe is the trigger that makes the card pop out. Great trick!
@checkyoursixgaming5 жыл бұрын
@@Jeff_H_the_Guitarist Then Penn wouldn't be referring to see the OTHER stick, which was the one the stun baton was attached to. Because if the competitor handed over the stick with the mouse traps and that was the one with gimmick, Penn would have found it. Penn, like me, knew it was the stun stick that had the gimmick. You can slow the video down and watch it happen when after the last card falls, he smacks the mouse trap stick into the stun stick and the card appears.
@nodowt5 жыл бұрын
Definitely a switch after the trick was done... Likely when packing up the yoga mat (only the start of which is shown in the video)... Notice after the catch and before packing up the yoga mat, the latch wire is 'stuck' up on the trap.... Vs when they are chatting to Alison & pen & Teller the latch wire is flapping around loosely.

I've known about them since forever and I live on different continent :) I didn't get the mirage refferance, but "touch the back of this card right here" kinda speaks for itself. All in all I LOVED this act, it's so rare to see something like this and it's such a treat for a juggler :D I once met dude from spain, who did full 4 min juggling routine, but balls were just vanishing and appearing out of nowhere all the time... and that's it, can't remember any other act of this kind, that I saw in my life.

I think when Penn talks about "the other one" he was referring to the fact there are two traps on the end of that stick. One is an actual trap. We saw that one chop a carrot. But the other trap on the other side is a device pops the card out. There's a button you press to make the card pop out. I believe it's on the end of the handle. Right after the juggler jumps over the other juggler you can see upon on his second catching of the mouse trap device that he jams the handle into his hip really quickly. I think there was also a force at the beginning, as well. After Teller tells him to stop, the magician still handles the cards for just a second and gives Teller the card, rather than simply stopping and letting Teller grab the card himself. The 7 of diamonds was always going to be the card. The effect of the card on the rat traps was predetermined for that specific card.

12:25 I think When Penn talks about the morality of making the audience complicit in unnecessary human risk, he's talking about Death/ severe injury. Like for instance, The Bullet catch, There should never be an actual chance that you might die on stage, you're making the audience participate in something legitimately dangerous, even if just as a spectator, and therefore it's immoral in his eyes. Or the trick They do with the nail gun, That could be done with a real nail gun but Penn makes it Crystal clear that there's a trick involved when he holds the nail gun to teller's neck that there's no danger because he would never actually put Tellers life at risk, thus freeing them up to joke about it. Minor bumps, bruises, and nicks are inevitable but nothing that would risk sending someone to the hospital urgently. Here, Teller's not going to Die if the trick goes wrong, the worst that could happen would be getting wacked in the face by the stun gun, or kicked, which would Really suck, but wouldn't kill him.
@Joker_0o5 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what he wanted to cue maybe that the rat gizmo had nothing to do with how the trick was done so he said no no not that instead of cueing that the shuffler had something to do with how it was done or giving codes on how it was done

Thoughts before the trick ends .. as soon as I saw the mouse trap, I was thinking the 7 of diamonds will end up pinched in it at some point. Edit: Exactly as I thought ... it's exactly like someone using those loaded daggers, swords, or even a pool stick to "stab" a card out of the air.
@jasoncox90505 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I know where the switch happened, even though it wasn't shown. After the trick, he reaches down and picks up the yoga mat - which you can see. I bet when he put it away in the bin, he switched devices as well. He was hoping Penn would ask to see it, then get confused when it wasn't rigged, and guess something else. Oops
@dividedbyxir05 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great reaction video. My take on the fable is thus. Don't be so quick to complain to people for not doing what *you* want. What you may perceive as stubbornness is probably them following a higher authority than you: their boss, their gods, the law, etc. Or to put it a little more snarky, "Don't overestimate the strength of your stinger, you ridiculous gnat."

@fuzzydrawrings2695 жыл бұрын
I think the switch came later. After 7:23 when the guy holding the rat traps is picking up the yoga mat there's a camera cut and when it cuts back he has already put the mat back behind the table. I suspect it was when he put the mat away that he switched out the gimmicked rat trap stick for a real one that was behind the table.
@colmwhateveryoulike32405 жыл бұрын
Well the card definitely wasn't there in the stick you can see him take from his partner as he jumps over him and then it is there without a switch having happened so yeah he'd have had to switch it if he didn't mind it being looked at since it must have been a rigged.

That fable is actually quite good. The moral was simply to know who has authority over you. Do not accept the blithering of the man who believes he has the ability to dissuade or coerce you. For example, if a general assigns a soldier something and tells him to do it no matter who tells him otherwise and the soldier, while performing the task, is told to stop by a person with a lower rank than the general, he should not stop and refer the other officer to the general. This is, to me as a man trying to follow God’s direction, a fable with religious aspect to it as well. Like Daniel, who knew the law codified by Cyrus that no man could pray to anyone other than Cyrus himself, who prayed to his God openly because he knew to whom his allegiance was owed and was willing to pay the price of adhering to the relationship he had with God rather than the law of Cyrus.

But the saying "beware what you wish, you might actually get it" is indeed about that. To THINK what you wish for, because often ppl dont think about something in its entirety till they actually have it. A lot of things arent JUST what they seem to be, they often have attached things/danger in them. As for this one, the moral is mule is fucking mule I guess, in its stupidity doesent see theres no difference if 1 master rides you or 5 of them. As long as theres one you are not free.
