Definitely recommend breeding similis. I’m not sure if you recall my comment a few months ago where I asked you what shellies I should breed? But as you suggested I’ve since gotten a group of 5 F1 Karilani island similis. Ended up with 1 female and 4 males. But they’ve formed a pair and given me so many fry already! The other males don’t prey on the fry at all.
@JasonsCichlids

I do remember you asking that and really glad you have a group of them already! Pretty amazing you even know the location they are from too. Do they look any different to my similis? Good to know your ones aren't preying on the fry too

@@JasonsCichlids yeah luckily managed to get them online from a specialist Rift Valley importer. I would say mine are darker,l and the pelvic fins are longer and slightly blue. But the yellow on your ones seems to be much more pronounced.

Good evening Jason congratulations for the KZbin channel they always follow. I wanted to ask you if you could give me some examples about the size of the tanks and the species of cichlids you host. That is the size you use for each cichlid species. Thanks and good job .

Hello Marco, thanks for watching the video. The tanks on the top row are 2 foot long by 1 foot wide by 14 inches tall. They house all my fry for growing out. The middle row of tanks are 2 foot long by 2 foot wide by again, 14 inches tall. These mainly house my breeding pairs/colonies. The bottom row of tanks are both 4 foot long by 2 foot wide by 2 foot tall. A fill list of each fish I keep can be found in this videos description. Hope that helps you and thanks again mate.

Amazing video mate! I watch all your videos and Iv learnt so much from them, one quick question though what kind of shells did you say you use I can’t find any that size in the uk and I’m afraid my escargot shells are not big enough for my shellies and future tanks :)
@JasonsCichlids

I really enjoyed the video! Just a question do your fry tanks run off the sump system? If so how do you prevent the fry from going over the overflow? Kind regards.
@JasonsCichlids
@JasonsCichlids Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it mate. On the bulkheads I have a short piece of pvc sticking out of them. This is removable for cleaning. I then use a zip tie to hold flyscreen to one end of the piece of pvc. Again the flyscreen can be removed and slid back on for cleaning. Hope that makes sense. Tanks with larger fish just have gutter guard zip tied to the piece of pvc. Great thing is, all of those are black and you can't see them.

Cheers Declan, glad you enjoy the vids mate! If your tank is large enough, I would recommend some brichardi. The Daffodil variety if you want some colour. Brichardi step breed like the multies and will live in the rock work. Hope that helps you.

@@JasonsCichlids thanks man very helpful my tank size is 240 litres i think that's 62 or 63 us gallons hope that will be big enough for them the multies are so small so would like to get something a bit bigger and that suits the multies

Jason your fish room and tanks look so clean and crisp, the information you provided was excellent. I thought I would give you some honest feed back about your editing, the video got very monotonous after 50mins of the same shit on different tanks and could of used a bit a change up to keep people interested.
@JasonsCichlids
@JasonsCichlids 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the feedback. Glad you like the fish room and the info. Yeah I was playing with a different format this year just to see how it went. First year I broke my fish room tour into 5 parts. Last year I did it all in one 40 minute video and didn't show every tank. This year I thought I'd do it differently again and make a very detailed video about every tank regardless if it was the same species of fish or not. It was a difficult video to make considering how long it too and my computer almost died a few times rendering it. Needless to say, next years full fish room tour won't be long like this one. Thanks again

I love the gold comps. It was neat to hear about the sump system. Do you think that it's a over kill to run a sump system and sponge filters too or are they just back up for when you need to isolate a tank?
@JasonsCichlids
@JasonsCichlids 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Troy, I really love them too. They are really colouring up now. I actually do that mate, I have sponge filters in the top row for that very reason, to have the ability to isolate a tank if I ever need. It also allows me to always have seeded media ready to go with beneficial bacteria. The other reason is because of redundancy. If a return pump was to fail I could switch it out if need be and run the top row of tanks on the sponge filters until a new pump arrives. That said it's always a good idea to have a back up pump ready to go, even if its just something cheap. In my case that will be the pump I use for my water changes. Hope that helps mate.

@@JasonsCichlids That's great information. Your videos are very informative and helps give me guidance on Tanzanian Cichlids that there isn't too much information on. You mentioned on your video about drilling your tanks for a future plumbing, are your tanks glass or acrylic and how do you drill them?
@JasonsCichlids
@JasonsCichlids 3 жыл бұрын
That is great to hear, glad you are finding them useful. Yeah I will be drilling them. They are made of glass and I will be using a diamond holesaw to do the drilling. I will document the entire process on my channel when I get around to doing the plumbing for those tanks

Hey man great video, I've been watching you for a while and I've said this before. You have to figure out what's causing that terrible high pitch noise. If you don't believe me it exists get someone young to listen, it's prevalent through the whole video whenever there isn't music. Hopefully you can figure it out
@JasonsCichlids
@JasonsCichlids 3 жыл бұрын
Well that's concerning. I thought I resolved it as it was the aircon. The aircon and circulation fan were both off for the entire tour. People were reporting after I tested it that they could no longer hear the high pitched sound. If you're saying you can still hear it then I really don't know what it could be. Maybe its software related? It's so difficult to resolve when I and no one I know can hear it. But I will play around with the video software settings, maybe its something in that.
@Alonofer20
@Alonofer20 3 жыл бұрын
@@JasonsCichlids I made sure to test if I can hear in on multiple devices before telling you about it. So it's not on the user end. It's the same sound that old TV's make. Maybe it's an old lighting fixture you have or maybe it's editing software related. Is your camera recording at the same frequency as you're using to edit? Also maybe try to add a noise gate that limits the high frequencies. I know Audacity has one that can work
@JasonsCichlids
@JasonsCichlids 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps for running those tests on different devices! I am beginning to think it is software related. And thanks for the suggestion about using Audacity and a "noise gate". Never heard of that before but will give it a try
