Joe Pera is tonic for the soul. I think part of the reason his show is often compared to "adulthood's version of Mr. Rogers" is because it touches on heavy topics with an air of seriousness and respect for the audience and those who might see a bit of themselves in what’s being depicted onscreen. His show doesn’t use fear, grief, and anxiety as the punchline for a cheap joke, nor does it fetishize those feelings the way a lot of adult animation shows seem to. Joe Pera’s show depicts these feelings, and offers suggestions on how to deal with them, but doesn’t fixate on them. It's a special thing to see my favorite KZbin channel and favorite show collaborating. Thank you both for being who you are.

I'm currently working on narrations of H.P. Lovecraft's texts over on my channel, and the word 'hummock' appears quite a bit in his works. Indeed, he uses quite a few words I have to look up, despite being a 20th century author - recently I came across such obsolete words as: 'arras' (tapestry), 'settle' (wooden bench), 'Paris green' (a green pigment which was also used as rat poison), and 'gloaming' (dawn or dusk). Even though he's writing a century later than Edgar Allan Poe, Lovecraft uses a lot more obsolete words than Poe did. Which is very curious, I'm not entirely sure what to make of it.

Often, I feel a bit pessimistic about how the internet has changed life, and whether or not we would be better off without it. But people like Jon and Joe, people I probably never would have heard of without the internet allowing smaller creators to experiment and be supported even by niche content, prove that the upside can be much greater when we curate that experience. As a sleep aid, as fodder for inspiration or as food for thought, channels like these are like gemstones in the earth's crust. You have to dig for them, but they're out there. Your videos about community building are especially important to me. It's by no means a replacement for real human connection and fulfilment, but it motivates me to go out there and find it. It proves to me that it's real and possible. So, thanks for that. I now have hope that, someday, we can take all that was so great about the old days, while leaving behind what was not.
