Dear You and 24 Hour Revenge Therapy are absolute must haves. These guys were a huge inspiration for Green Day, and even Kurt had their sticker on his guitar on Nirvana’s final tour. Basically like if Green Day was more into drive like jehu and fugazi than pop punk.

Wig Out was pretty great, too...but Jawbreaker fans turned on them when this came out---now its arguably tied with 24 hour revenge as their best. it makes unfun sound juvenille and Bivuoac was lacking in consistency. but they were getting better. Dear You stood the test of time for all the shit they got...a well deserved check for years of entertaining rich kids who denied their bands any reward for the sacrifices it takes to be a real band. How many times does the guy gotta say "i need new sweaters, people!" this pollup in my throat could kill me! the label doesnt even supply health insurance. pricks killed a growing band. at least they went out strong and sneer when Chemistry saved some dorks life! Jet Black, man. To the center.

I was in hospital in 2011 recovering from a seizure that required me to be put into a coma. I was really bummed because I missed the warped tour, and one of the only albums I had downloaded to my LG Rumor phone was Dear You. This album brought me incredible joy, and i will be forever grateful to this band.

Oh yes, the good old days of the 1990s when indie , punk rock, college rock Pop rock all came together.. was lucky enough to live in a place where we had plenty of local college stations and commercial college stations who put on many summer concert series. Saw this band in Providence Rhode Island in the 90s.

Jawbreaker has been and always will be my favorite punk band. Blake Schwarzenbach's lyrics are fantastic but you would expect from a guy who got a BA from NYU in English Lit and creative writing. Read about him in Wikipedia he teaches undergrads now; he's inspired the punk/indie/emo culture and many punk bands list Jawbreaker as one of their favorite bands or inspirations....Face to Face, Lagwagon, NoFX, Bad Religion, tons of great bands.

I’m with you. I’ve long made the claim (old punk preaching here) that sunny day diary jawbreaker revenge and weezer blue album started emo! But… there was a band in Austin in the 80’s (also Texan here) called the Big Boys that may lay claim to first “emo” punk song. Them or the buzzcocks. Ha ha.

@@chaddeez8446 "emotional hardcore' and "emocore" were underground terms that were used in the late 80s and they morphed into the term "emo" in the 90s so yes "emo" was in people's vocabularies but not many, and it was usually the retard critics who used these dumb labels, 90% of the bands hated them. i get what you're saying though, punk is just punk

I came here after reading the Jawbreaker chapter about in "Sellout", book by Dan Ozzi. Man, what a sad and depressing story about the pression, the hatred, the "fans" and everything that terminated this wonderful band. I really love the "Dear You" record, they don't deserved AT ALL what happened to them. I'm so sad

@@englisheducativeProbably, but I believe their 'magic' resided in their unique identity. They emerged from a DIY context and, according to Ozzi, their sin was being outspoken about not being 'sellouts' before they finally signed with a major label. In my humble opinion, they didn't need major labels nor commercial guidelines, which, at the time, were obsessively searching for a new Green Day. That video, for example, doesn't even fit the original style of the song. I don't know, it seems like they were under too much pressure to become something else.

First time hearing these guys just now. Loved this song! Looked them up on Wikipedia and it said they were a big influence on nineties emo. I guess I could see that but still, I think a lot of us punk rockers like a wide range of stuff. I remember hearing them mentioned in a Lagwagon song. To me this is just great nineties music. It's got that great feel to it.
