Nearly Street Running Train, Train Knocks Down The Signal ( Old B&O Signals ), Blue Heron Escapes CSX Train On Railroad Bridge, Train Cuts Through Air Pollution From Wild Fires & Abandoned Railroad Track Removal With Dwarf Signal Still Working. These trains are in Piqua, Troy & Tipp City, Ohio on the CSX Toledo Sub. Check out the big train with the mid train DPU locomotive flying past the old train depot in Tipp City.
First we see a big CSX auto racks train go right through the city of Troy, Ohio. This track is next to the road with a sidewalk on both sides of it and homes next to it. This is almost a street running track so check out the Google Maps that I included in the video that show how it runs next to the road. Notice the squirrel that came running from the railroad track as the train approached. It was going to run where I was standing until it saw me.
Next we see a train in Piqua, Ohio. Piqua is just a few miles north of Troy. I thought the railroad crossing was pretty cool there so I went there and filmed a northbound train coming through the hazy air pollution that Canada gave us. The haze is from the forest fires in Canada that are smoking up the entire north eastern part of the USA. When the train first came I could barely see it. I saw a light and wasn't sure that it was a train until it was almost at the crossing. The track is flat and straight so I should have seen it a couple of miles away.
Then we go to Troy, Ohio to take a close look at the old B&O color position lights that are still in use. I was able to film a train knocking down the signal. By now I hope that most people know that this is railroad jargon for the signal changing from green down to red. I almost forgot about the train running southbound across the bridge over The Great Miami River. A blue heron was sitting on the bridge and flew off just as the train approached. That was awesome!
Next I go to Tipp City, Ohio to the home of the Tippecanoe Red Devils. Their first home game is September 1 against the Greenville Green Wave. Tipp City also has a few old B&O signals that are still in use. The long passing track here is being removed. Notice that the rails are mostly gone but the dwarf signal for the track is still in operation. The switch is still in place with the motor and rails but is now only good as a derailer. Lol. I got a huge intermodal train here with a mid train DPU locomotive. The train was booking through town on its way to Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati. Check out the old train station.
Best frequencies here are 160.230 and 452.9375. There are a couple of other ones but you really don't need those. Don't forget to see what the pets are up to and there is a slide show at the end of this video that came from this video.
Filmed Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

No, it's fog, which is why it cleared later in the day. But it's fog that's likely induced by smoke -- the smoke particles mean the moisture in the air condenses more easily than it would in clean air. (Kinda like how a scratch in a glass will trigger gas to come out of soda or beer.)

@@philipgreene8952 Why must I be high? Fog clears as the air gets warmer, since warm air can hold more water vapour. Smoke doesn't clear as the air gets warmer. This haze cleared, so it can't be purely smoke.

The smoke pretty much left northern Wi. and it looks like it moved down to you. I used to climb up the C&NW semaphore bridges when I was a kid. One day when I was 6 I took some clothes line and tied the semaphore that was in the stop position to the railing. The thing was trying to raise and going "whirrrr click". The next commuter train to come along came to a screeching stop and one of the guys climbed down out of the engine and then went up on the bridge to cut the rope. The semaphore seemed relieved as it went to the up position. The guy climbed back in the engine cursing up a storm. I just sat quietly in the bushes and watched. Yeah, I was a bad boy. Hate to see more rail being taken out, they should be putting more in. Great video, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

I recall seeing the old B&O signals on the tracks around northeastern to southeastern Ohio. that was in the Chessie System era, nearing CSX takeover. there was still lots of B&O equipment everywhere, as well as Chessie System and some CSX stuff. I was a kid and grandfather conductor on semi-local daily freight, I gratefully got to ride along multiple times, in the cabooses and engines, even in the engineers seat while underway and told what lever to move where and when to turn the bell on/horn sequence, all going very slow in small city/rural area, through crossings ( they'd for sure all be terminated now days for that). good memories though. I have ridden on B&O, Chessie System and CSX branded equipment, that was in the 1980's to early 1990's. I still have a keychain of ancient keys he used as conductor and yard foreman beforehand. I wish had kept all the hand filled log books, incident reports and other items, but just couldn't store the stuff.

Thank you for this video of the trains that you saw in Piqua, Troy and Tipp City, Ohio on 28 June 2023, Jaw Tooth! The smoke from the wildfires in Quebec, Canada was causing problems for you on that day. Those old Baltimore & Ohio signals are great to see. I hope that they will be around for a while. The heron on the bridge over the Great Miami River waited as long as it could before it flew off in front of the train.

@@JawTooth If you ever make it up to Cleveland sometime check out the old clark railroad yard. The CL&W and CT&V subs run to this yard. Lots of old stuff left over from the B&O. The 2 CPLs in clark yard are no longer working, but the dwarf signals at the drawbridge are still working. Sadly a CPL on the CL&W sub was removed for a bridge/road project about 15 years ago in Parma Ohio. One Regular CPL still stands north of Brookpark road ,while the other for trains heading north was replaced with a triangular light tri light signal. These 2 signals protect the crossing of the Cleveland Shortline sub,and the CL&W sub. There is a old semaphore signal post right before clark yard, not sure when the signal was removed, or stolen. This semaphore is in someone's video from years ago.

Wasn't a big railfan at the time, too busy with job & family stuff to chase trains (dammit!), no car while in Ohio anyway. One of my favorite street-running sections is in the darndest place - Dupont Highway - US 13 - between the DE/PA state line and Philadelphia. What makes it quirky is that US 13 changes sides of Interstate 95 in the city of Chester, PA - yet it still has a freight rail track alongside, in addition to SEPTA and AMTRAK. This is the only place south of CT where passenger trains can street run.
