The end of the series should be Ruth ripping off her face to reveal that she is the Kandyman followed immediately by the end of the episode, the next series picks up like none of this ever happens and the incident is never mentioned again.

If the leaks about Ruth go where they are meant to go I think the only way to save the franchise is immediately post Jodie regeneration to have the time lords seize the tardis and announce the doctor has been an a parallel time line. This would erase the Chibsverse and you could start fresh possibly even doing a pertwee type season of earth bound Dr.

Orphan 55 is not bad per se, it's competent by the numbers and a little to heavy handed about its message. But that's it some forgettable filler that no one is going to rewatch.

In regards to visiting gallifrey in the past, I always wondered that as well, I assumed because they locked down the timeline to benefit themselves they prevent anyone from popping up on their established timeline to prevent any one messing with their perfect timeline.. But I believe because the time war involved daleks attacking them all throughout the timeline, you can have a before or after the time war, it's the entire history of gallifrey that's time locked It isn't like going to the UK in 1938 or 1946 and just avoiding WW2, it's a time war, specifically a time travel war that was affecting the entire universe haha, basically it's any point on the stream that's locked Clara was able to go back, but that was a unique situation and she wasnt travelling there but literally being born all throughout the timeline, including as a gallifreyan, she essentially just always was a kid there didn't go through the time lock In Day 10 and 11 are like this is time locked we shouldn't even be here, but that was specifically the time war and the moment let them through

I may be wrong, but doesn’t the whole defined regeneration cycle thing leave zero room for another regeneration anywhere before Smith? Wasn’t it specifically said that the Doctor had 12 regenerations and had used them all (all of which we have seen) meaning it’s impossible for Ruth to be pre-Hartnell. Also if she was pre-Hartnell there would be very little justification for his sexism in Capaldi’s last episode. I don’t see how it’s possible that she could be a past Doctor.

The 12 regenerations included the unfinished regeneration from Stolen Earth/Journey's End from what I remember. That could be retconned as not counting without too much issue.

Alan Jarvis Yeah, I probably should’ve phrased that better, what I meant was even less justification, I’ve never seen a full one of his episodes but it was still really jarring seeing the Doctor like that, especially with Capaldi’s comments 2 episodes before about Time Lords being beyond getting hung up on gender. I also find it very difficult to believe that there would be an entire regeneration cycle before Hartnell stole the TARDIS, yet none of it is remembered and Ruth already has the TARDIS for some reason. None of it really adds up.

Roy Galer Hm, I doubt it. IIRC before 11’s regeneration they did explicitly bring it up as being a regeneration and counting, hence the need for a new cycle. It may have even been explained at the time in S4 that it was a proper regeneration, that he diverted the excess energy but it still came from his regeneration, however it’s been so long I honestly can’t remember. Personally I don’t think they could get away with it (at least not with long-standing fans that didn’t start with s11)

It's possible that he thought it counted as a full regeneration but didn't actually and that there actually was yet another incarnation he'd forgotten / repressed. On the topic of odd regenerations, I also remember that the War Doctor wasn't exactly a normal regeneration either. He was the product of some alien ritual. So maybe he and the Tennant double each only count as half. They could get creative with it and any writer other than Chibnall could pull it off with ease.

I don’t know much about classic but I’ve seen the theories about a regeneration that happened between doctor’s 2 & 3 (might have been different numbers) where he was working for the Time Lords and they gave him a free regeneration because of it. The points they’ve made seem reasonable enough but I can’t remember them all.

@@SuperFitzyBoi The Ruth Doctor preceeds the 1st doctor, so she exists at least 4.5 billion years in the doctor's (and thus Gallifrey's) life. The Judoon would absolutely have been assigned to arrest the doctor before this.

53:00 Talking about how the time war is timelocked, my own headcanon is that every separate timelord lives concurrently, so the Doctor at 900 years old would have been born when a 1100 year old timelord was 200, no matter when they are. With the stipulation of SEPARATE timelords so that they can still encounter their own past for the meetups, but never meet a past timelord other than themself.

There's some speculation that the Ruth Doctor is a 2.5 Doctor. Post War Games with the Celestial Intervention Agency using the Doctor for a time and covering it all up and giving back a regeneration to send back to exile on Earth.

OK here is my theory about the Ruth!Doctor. She is pre Hartnell. If this is supposed to connect back to The Master blowing up the planet, remember he did it because Gallifrey did something so disgusting in his eyes that he had to blow it up to get even. With it being a mystery most likely means it's meant to imply it would be something that the Doctor would also find disgusting. Maybe like Time Lords rewriting her memories and forcing the Doctor to do something they would never do under normal circumstances. And once they were done with them, they may have rewritten their memories to be different. Not only them thinking Hartnell was the first but that the Tardis was stuck on the Phone Box setting for a completely different reason. TBH, while I do think this could be an interesting take, I don't think Chibnall can pull it off. He's already shown he isn't the best at handling characters, he also has a bad habit of cramming too much into his stories and turn them into complete messes, such as the series 11 finale, Resolution, Spyfall and even this. This kind of retconning could be cool, but Chibnall isn't a strong enough writer to pull it off.

It is a trait of the Doc to babble in some incarnations but its been overdone cos its an excuse to dump fast exposition cos of the 45 minute adventure restriction and I want to see a return to them talking normally like 9 did. Eccleston didnt need all the rambling shit.
