One of my favourite moments from dalek is when the dalek is fighting the soldiers and to show how smart a dalek is it goes the most efficient way of taking them all out by using the sprinklers to get water everywhere and then with one shot the water is electrified and kills everyone.

This episode showed me how amazing of an actor Christopher Eccleston is and I'm disappointed we only got him for one season. Up until now he was kind of goofy and capable of serious moments, but I was disturbed watching how quickly he flipped to being driven mad by grief. He acts so hard in this episode that at one point he begins to actually foam at the mouth. This is one of my all time favorite episodes.

I'm rewatching New Who at the moment and yeah Dalek is just excellent. Definitely one of the best episodes in the shows history, I feel like you could show someone this episode and it'd work as a very good introduction to the doctor and his arch enemy.

I've got some possible discussion suggestions: 1) Best and worst of [Insert Villain Here] eg: Daleks, Cybermen, Master etc. 2) Some discussions on Big Finish stories that both of you have listened to.

I'd watch "absorbaloff" any day. Also Yeah, I almost wish this had been the last dalek story (at least specifically in the show) even if that means we would have lost parting of the ways.
@peterthompson19894 жыл бұрын
Love how casually stu mentions having drinks with Rob Shearman. One thing I was wondering. I remember before the show came back the Daleks might not have returned due to agreement issues with the Terry Nation estate. There was even a thing or maybe just a rumour when they sorted it that they didn't have the rights originally to say exterminate. Apparently RTD came up with the idea of the Toclafane way back in 2004 as a replacement. Do you think the show would have been a success or as big of a success if they hadn't been able to use the Daleks? I mean I also think the time war helped by adding some mystery and conflict that happened off screen during the wilderness years and wonder if the show would have still done this but with something else and would that be as affective e.g. cybermen instead of daleks

I like that they keep redesigning the tardis and the sonic, reflects the doctor's personality.
@peterthompson19894 жыл бұрын
I can live without the sonic redesign but I'm always interested to see what they can do to the console. Also like with the person playing the doctor if your not keen then at least it will change at some point. I'm not really a fan of 13s Tardis console room. Can't fully explain why but I think the others felt more open and played in far better to the bigger on the inside part. Ruth's console room however is beautiful

Haha goddamn, Jay talking about being 5/6 in 2005 makes me feel so old.. I was a sophomore in high school when new who came back, Tennant's run was through til senior year and a year after, Matt Smith was college and Capaldi was my mid 20s haha I mean '89 vs '99 isn't that big of a difference but it seems such a huge change from then to now

The only issue with the episode being set in 2012 is that Stolen Earth and Journey's End presumably take place in 2008, so you'd think Henry Van Statten, Alex, and everyone else in the bunker would know what a Dalek is, unless the bunker the so secure that no-one's been out or had outside contact for several years. Then again, stuff like that happens all the time and cracks in time or whatever.
@alexmelling52613 жыл бұрын
Statten literally owns the internet tho, there's no goddamn way he wouldn't have found out
@DonnaCPunk3 жыл бұрын
Or he truly knew and didn't care. Just the Doctor falling into his lap was very fortunate. I got the sense he mightve hoped the Doctor would know a way to make Daleks into a profitable commodity. Like the same dumb shit they've been doing for ages now - Weyland and the xenomorph, that recurring dumbassery in the Jurassic World films, etc.
@harley693 жыл бұрын
Or it’s the relativity of time. Maybe Van Statten’s museum did exist in 2012 but because of the events of Journey’s End, it doesn’t anymore, or maybe it existed in a different way. Time isn’t linear, remember?

I haven't seen this yet, I don't know if either of them mention this, but a tiny nitpick I have is that they have that one locked door with one billion combinations, and then the dalek wants to open it and the doctor says "A dalek can calculate one thousand billion combinations in a second" and then the dalek takes like 10 seconds to open it
