Competing against one another and showing people who’s the best has always been apart of hip-hop history since it’s early stages. Back then it was all about who could rock the party the best and who had the best DJ. Then it transitioned to the emcee, master of ceremony, and who could rock the mic the best which caused people to battle each other and see who would come out on top. From legendary battles such as Busy Bee and Kool Moe Dee to KRS ONE and MC Shan on wax to Biggie and Pac to Nas and Jay Z. Rap seems like it’s one of if not the only genre of music where wanting to be the best is engrained in the culture itself. There has been many beefs and battles in hip-hop history but one such battle I wanted to focus on was Jay-Z versus Cam’ron.

Cam deleted Jay-Z verse because Jay-Z deleted Cam’s verse on Peedi Crakk’s song “One For Peedi Crakk”. The song originally had Cam and Juelz on it, it’s now on one of those early Dipset mixtapes because Cam kept a copy. He said it himself on Drink Champs that he simply did it because Jay did it to him.

@@wesyes7888 He swagger jacked Harlem dudes. It's a well known New York rumor. Jay Z is from BK, those are the grimey cats that were in the streets and wore baggy clothes and timbs, but looked rugged(i.e. early Notorious BIG, MOP, ODB, etc). While HArlem, where Dame Dash and Biggs Burke(the silent 3rd owner of Roc A Fella Records) were from was where the fly dressing cats were from. Camron was also from Harlem, and their swagger is in the style, hence his pink clothing, fur coats, customized clothing and vehicles. You can see the style of dress that Jay Z had once he started Roc A Fella records, and if you look at early, younger Jay Z songs, he looks NOTHING like that smooth player that you see on Reasonable DOubt. I think Jay was fronting like it wasn't a issue with signing Cam because it was a smart move for Dame as far as business. They both knew Jay wasn't feeling Cam. Cam got hotter then anything Roc did before, and Jay didn't have to be the one holding up the ship anymore. That was a threat, and too much power for Dame in Jay eyes. He was replacing him with someone that always secretly competed with him. They were tring to play him, he was making his private moves, and then pulled the plug. One thing I will say though. Dipset was so ready for that opportunity.
@cloutcancun
@cloutcancun 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think Dame was trying to play Jay. Dame has said that Jay had always been talking about retiring since his album reasonable doubt so he was always uncertain when Jay would retire which Jay did with the black album (we now know he came back). Dame brought Cam in because he needed to replace Jay if he did retire.

I just think Jay was tired of splitting money 3 ways between him, Dame, and Biggs. Jay wanted that money all to himself. The thing about him and Cam yea I think he saw Cam as competition. I wouldn't say record sales-wise but as a rapper, he definitely knew the talent Cam had.

I don’t like Jay-Z or Cam’ron. Both are horrible men with petty egos but one thing I will not deny is that their beef is criminally underrated and overlooked for some reason. I am glad they squashed their beef. Cam even said he’s happy that it over. I slightly give Cam the win because he was not playing around especially in his beefs it’s usually funny and not that serious but Jay-Z and Nas, Man he was not playing around with both of them. It just shows the loyality Cam had for many of the former artists unlike Jay who has destroyed several careers. You Gotta Love It and Brooklyn High are one of the most overlooked diss tracks in my opinion people just trash them for some reason. Overall, I think it’s one of the best hip hop beefs of all time.

Biggie vs Pac wasn't a battle of mc's. It was a beef that got personal from the beginning. Kool moe dee said best that battle's are about me and you/ Group vs Group. Once you mentioned other people besides me or the group to, that means you have nothing left in your lyrical arsenal. Moe vs LL Cool J, BDP vs Juice Crew, Jay Z vs Nas and more like that where battles of people who where masters on the on the mic's Battle and Beef is two different pairs of shoes my brother but still a great video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
