This video was extremely helpful. But I think you're wrong about the stainless steel cable, everything I can find says it should be stronger than galvanised. I think you may have bought 2mm 7x7 steel cable which does not have the same flexibility as 2.4mm 7x19. My understanding is the original cables are 2.4mm galvanised (unsure of configuration though). I'm just about to do the same repair but using stainless wire rope 2.4mm 7x19 strands which can be bought from Road Tech Marine around Australia for about $3.74 per metre. It has a breaking strength of 395kg. The elevated cost is likely solely because of the more complicated configuration (7x19). It seems 7x7 wire is cheap everywhere and isn't intended for this application. I hope you got everything working again smoothly.

@@chrisrandall7381 thanks for your input and glad i could help. You could be correct. I can't remember now but I think this snapped in a straight pull. I just threw out all the old cables in a cleaning rage so can't check. It's been working well since.
