Constantinople will never absolutely never join Rome, and the reason is Mountain Athos. Concerning universalism- I see this as another place where Orthodoxy transcends the dialectic. The scriptures and the Fathers alike seem to portray an image of the Eschaton wherein all things have been renewed and restored. For those that have oriented themselves to this coming reality, that is Paradise, and for those who have oriented themselves toward the fallen and now gone world, that is Hell. All will be, in a sense, saved, but salvation will be to the condemnation of many. Salvation is universal, and therefore so is damnation.

First off I'm not orthodox as yet but still learning about it so take that as you will. The short answer is Paul says that Jesus is the new Adam (1 Cor 15). Adam was created from a sinless creation so Jesus' human nature would also have to be sinless in some way shape or form. This means that Mary would have to be sinless somehow. You can't getaway from Mary being sinless, if you do it makes Jesus' human nature fallen. If you want the long answer then here you go: Adam's sin brought death into the world. And death is the separation of the body and the soul. When one dies their soul go to Hades/Sheol and are held captive there. This happened to everyone that died. None of us has the ability to bring our body and soul back together once it's been separated except for God. I point this out because God created our bodies and wants us to live in them as he said that he breathed and made man into a living soul (Gen 2:7) and when he made his creation he said that everything was good (Gen 1:31). The word Adam means man in Hebrew. In context the word "man" refers to mankind. Remember that in Genesis chapter 1, God created all things after their kind. So we are all made after man/Adam which is why we are called mankind. And is also why everyone (man or woman) after Adam is called a son of man or son of Adam. This is why everyone has fallen nature and is going to die no matter what they did. So here is where we come to to point of how God is going to save humanity from their fallen human nature. As the prophecies in Gen 3:14-15 and Isaiah 7:14 (among others) demonstrate that God is going to use a human to reverse the sin (death) that Adam brought into the world. So just as Adam was made from the dust of the ground that was untarnished by sin so too must Jesus come from a woman that is untarnished by sin. But this presents another problem because Jesus is coming from a human being that has fallen nature as well. So how is God going to get around this. According to Orthodox tradition, in every part of Mary's life she cooperated with the grace of God. Grace is an energy that comes from God. I'm not sure if you know about the essence/energies distinction in Orthodoxy but it's very important to grasp especially for this. So this is how Mary is sinless. She's sinless by God's grace as opposed to Jesus being sinless by his very nature being the 2nd person of the trinity. Hope that helps

"Only we know the real Jesus" sounds a bit gnostic too. Jay said that the unbaptized catechumen would still be considered baptized via passion. Just rewind that timeline a bit to the person who with a humble heart has heard the gospel and in child like faith is now relying on Jesus to get to the Father, but they have not yet stepped foot in an EO church and become a baptized catechumen. Romans 10 was written long after the veil was torn and Pentecost. Is the prescription therein not sufficient to save their soul from hell through Jesus?

ok, now I am really confused. Where did God say that we are good when Christ himself said no one is good except God. I will be honest here and say that my jaw dropped about the sin thing as I still think of myself as a depraved wretch. I have been led to Orthodoxy for the past year and have just finished my first ortho bible study. But I have never heard this before as in "God said we are good", perhaps you are referencing when God created everything and said it was good. I don't know though, was that before the fall?
@bradleyperry1735
@bradleyperry1735 2 жыл бұрын
He made us good, and made us in His image. For us to no longer be good, our sin would be more powerful than our Creator. We are inclined to wickedness, and sin always, but it is because we choose to do so, not because we are created sinful. Total depravity is not an Orthodox, which is to say Christian, belief.

@@elizantoinette No one is good but God because we all sin. But we don’t sin because we were created sinners. We all sin because we choose to which is why Christ’s statement is true. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I’m also not a theologian or a priest or anything. Just a catechumen who will be baptized soon. Definitely visit a Liturgy and talk to a priest. Coming from a Protestant background myself, some of the Orthodox teachings took awhile to understand.
@comeprotestants6250
@comeprotestants6250 2 жыл бұрын
I'm also a protestant looking into orthodoxy so I understand the difficulty in hearing certain things about orthodoxy coming from that background. The short answer is that we and God both have a will and an essence/nature. The will is a faculty of someone's nature. Essence/nature is what you are. Ie. human. The will is what we choose to do (whether it's good or bad). This means that the will is connected directly to one's nature. God created our human nature and even though it's fallen, our human nature is still good. Because of Adam's sin, we live with a deprivation or a loss of the human nature that we once had in the original creation. This is why it's called the fallen human state. The Trinity share the same nature/essence therefore they have the same will. We all have Adam's nature (we're human) and since it's fallen so is our will. Remember that I said that the will is connected to one's nature. God always knows what is good (he's omniscient). This is what gives him the ability to always be able to choose what is good at all times. And since His will is connected to His nature, and his nature is good therefore his will is also good. This is why he can't do evil. It's logically impossible. This is why there is none good except God. Some verses about God's will: Heb 6:18, 1 Tim 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9. Here is a video that should help you to find your answer in further detail and from someone who's actually orthodox: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqqWiHeho9R1q9k. Pay close attention to when he talks about will and energy. Hopefully this helps

I'm new here I have enjoyed watching some of your videos and I have picked up on something. You clearly want to make it sound like protestants just pick up the bible and interpret it to mean any damn thing. Some might but I myself don't and I believe I have the Holy Spirit because the evidence in the fruit. You were once protestant, Calvinist, Roman Catholic and now Eastern Orthodox. So you picked up the bible and started deciding/Interpreting scripture and deciding what you thought it meant. You went and read books and debates of early church fathers and picked the ones you probably thought interpreted scripture the best based on your interpretations. So basically the same thing you believe that protestants do that is wrong but what you did that lead you to where you are now. The only way to not do that is if you were already raised in the church and hold the belief that The Holy Spirit has lead that church in all truths since the beginning. Yes there are over 40,000 denominations but there are only 5 or 6 major branches. Catholic the largest true church, Protestant the 2nd largest invisible church, 3rd place goes to the True church of Eastern Orthodox, followed by Anglican, and last and certain least Non-Trinitarian which I don't know who ever included them but thats definitely not a brother in Christ. Revelation 7:9-10 English Standard Version A Great Multitude from Every Nation 9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” To me it looks like the bible has already told us the end. The invisible church of the Holy Spirit is the true Church. The Church that Paul wrote to pick one and do they teach what Eastern church today teaches all of it? You have a lot of knowledge of church history and thats awesome but clearly Paul said you must believe Jesus is Lord to be saved because Jesus makes it clear it that you must believe he is the I Am. That Jesus is the Son of God and God himself or the trinity basically. All the nature and person stuff I think is awesome but no I don't believe people like most Christians on the planet are going to hell for not know if it was the divine Jesus who preached in hell or the human nature. He also said he would be in paradise that day with the thief. He's God he can be everywhere at once so I would like to be shown where he wouldn't be.

Nazis caught on overnight because people feel more secure about themselves when they are in a group. Do you feel as though you are now a more knowledgeable christain and surer of your faith and life? My guess is you started out a protestant and now your Eastern Orthodox. Like the bible says every nation, tribe and tongue will have people in heaven. Not all nations have had the gospel. That means that the man by himself on an island can make it to heaven. God obviously has a way to judge people that arent offered the gospel.
