@@cricedaking1 I've had the 2015fz09 for 3 seasons. Been riding for 35 years. Lots of the old KZ and Suzuki big 4 cylinder bikes. This lightweight 3 banger pulls harder than any I've had. M4 exhaust and PUIG screen. No flash. Wasn't needed for the slip on exhaust. I dont really want more than 132mph on this style of bike anyway. By far the most fun bike I've ever had. I have a 2010 FZ6R as well. So I can choose a different way to go on different days. I think torque more fun than crazy top speed. Never did wheelies on street before. The good thing with the newer MT-09’s is abs is standard and rain mode keeps the front wheel down so it is possible to start on if you can handle the height of it. I’m glad I waited because it took a while for my brain to mature enough to not yank a throttle wide open every time I’m moving

Ask any ace rider-- "outgrow" is a commonly used fallacy for people who commute and are used to a bikes power in a straight line lol when a good rider on a 400 in the track or curves will absolutely shred on a mediocre rider on something powerful. Flip is the powerful bike something goes wrong like throttle sticking or just bad mistake and it's little room to adjust to avoid a crash. It’s not that these bikes are “too much”. Anyone can ride around in rain mode and learn how to ride. People do it all the time. The issue here is the learning curve. You’ll learn way faster, and have way more fun learning to ride on a smaller, lighter, less powerful bike. So if you want to buy a cool bike, sweet. A lot more power than the first bike, but as you said it depends on the maturity of the rider.

Dude, I just bought an fz 09 (2017), it’s my first bike. I completely agree with your train of thought. Lot of people out here ready to mouth off about bikes when they clearly don’t know the other person that will be riding it.

Great video! This is what im looking for. Gotta get my first street bike on saturday and its an MT09. I do trail riding. Ive been doing research based on actual people having MT09 as their first bike. Ive been riding bikes a long time but never had any street bike more than 500cc. Thank you for giving me the peace of mind. It all depends on how you adapt to it and how responsible you are. Now I am eager to get one. Goodluck to you!

I taught my self to ride on a ZX-7R 20 years ago and I remember after a few months wishing it was bigger. As long as you know your limits

Hell yeah. I grew up riding dirt bikes, in adult life have a dr650 dual sport. Had a kawi vulcan 1500 for a few years, then picked up a 14 fz09 last year. So its technically my 1st street bike. But having 20+ years of riding 2 wheels....it hasnt been a problem. Love the bike! Tons of power and fun. As long as you respect the power. And always in A mode lol

Love the sentiment in the video bro, massive respect. I just got my first MT09 2021, not my first bike but definitely the most powerful.

My first bike was a 98 Honda VTR 1000 and honestly I love what that bike taught me. I respected its power and it showed me a whole new world of fun. I'm hoping to move onto an MT09 soon as I've had a taste for what I like!

I rode a kawasaki vulcan 1600 classic for a few months. Then life got in the way and no longer had it. 4 years later, this past Saturday, I purchased an MT07. I wanted the MT09SP, but I wanted to get my feet back underneath me. I'm glad I went with the MT07. The only thing I want now is cruise control, lol.

I agree with you. I rode dirt bikes as a kid and got my motorcycle endorsement when I got my drivers license, but never used it. When I turned 27 I decided to start riding on the street and started with a Yamaha FZ1. I didn’t have money to keep trading up bikes as I gained more experience, so I bought a good bike that did everything I needed and just didn’t hammer the throttle. I’m also a taller rider, so smaller bikes didn’t work for me because of the ergonomics. If a person lacks self control they’ll get hurt on any bike when starting.

I test drove a 250 a 300 I was buying my first bike. I knew I wasn’t going to be satisfied or happy years down the road. So I got me the Yamaha fz 09 lol. I absolutely love it’s so much fun, I definitely know my limits and respect it a lot, and since it’s my first I always keep it in b mode I’ve never driven it on any other mode nor do I plan on anytime soon lol. It’s also v tuned it’s got the pedal commander, akrapovic full exhaust. it takes baby steps to get used to that throttle, in other words I do not think it’s a bad bike to start with it’s fun and you won’t get bored anytime soon, just keep it in b mode like me, you won’t regret it, drive safe and drive smart. Nothing wrong with having a little something more than you should as a first time rider for adrenaline.

I came across this today as i am researching mt09. I’ve owned the 03 for 18 months & thinking of skipping the 07 & go for an 09 2024 as a bit of a forever bike. Or at least 5 years or so! You are right in what you are saying I think. It’s all about mindset. Yes you would need certain good skills to go for a bike like this. I think I’m ready. Thank you for a great video.

My first bike I bought is a gsx s750, scared the hell out of me. But, i did my diligence for 3 months before i bought it and i bought it for $5k, and didn't ride it til after my MSF course. Practiced for months straight its been 3 months. I Thank God i bought that bike! Its the best thing ive ever bought.

i think your opinion suits very well. I first started riding on a 125 pitbike when i was 14 and then went on to fullsize 125. now im riding an mt-07. one of my dream bikes. So yea this was more accurate than most like beginner bike recommendations.

I rode a 250 cc for 3 years and then got my current bike (2017 Kawasaki Versys 650), and that path served me very well. However, I do not disagree with your personal choice after watching your video. You expressed your choice and philosophy very well and I agree this bike was probably right for you. Well done :)

I started on an 06 Kawi 250. Next was an SV650. Now I'm in my 30's and have an S1000R and I'm glad I progressed the way I did. I could only do what I thought was right for me.

Way to think for yourself!!! A true American. I started off driving my girlfriend around on her Sportster 1200 without ABS to learn how to ride, but I bought a BMW F650GS Enduro because I never want to pass up an adventure, on or off road. I love riding off road where going 35 mph can feel as sketchy as weaving through traffic at 100mph. Roads are so boring after dirt, I always want to do 50mph over the speed limit.

I agree 100% I started on a 2005 Kawi Z1000. Tons of torque. Tons of HP. And I loved it. It really helped me learn fast because it was a steep learning curve. My next bike was a brand new zx6r and I moved to a zx10R shortly after because the zx6r wasn't enough power for me. If you have self control and common sense you will be fine. If you don't then start on a 300, however don't make other people think literally bikes are death machines when they are not if your not stupid.

I’m lookin into a first bike myself and I think this helped more than most videos I’ve seen. Everyone says no it’s too fast then they turn around and in another video say all motorcycles feel extremely fast at first. I’ll hopefully get something soon and learn but I agree just respect the dangers of hobbies and react accordingly

Great video. Been thinking of this exact topic since I just bought my first bike. I went for the XSR 700 but I was in doubt of getting the XSR 900. Almost everybody told me not to go for the 900 since it´s definitely not a beginner bike. In the end, I did listen though. I know myself. For daily driving, I will use my car and the 700 is good enough not to get bored quickly. Besides I think i do not need that extra power. All I care about is that I can ride.
