yeah the MT-07R is just to compromised. like it has the aggressive riding position that reminds you of sport bikes but has non of the actual power and just falls flat on it's face. there is a reason F1 cars are all HP no torque. hp is just how fast you can do something while torque is how hard you can go. better to not sacrifice comfort for something that don't meat up to the standards of how a sport bike should be riden. better to get the comfortable mt-07 and just enjoy yourself.

As much as I really enjoyed the r7s aggressiveness, I think I'd faster get an mt07 as well. Simply for the daily factor. The mt07 is more of a playful bike and I'm getting the impression that the r7 is more serious, which is fine because I like the twisties, but I can only afford one newer bike right now. Ideally I'd like to have an mt07 and a zx636

Had my cousin ride it home from the dealership since it’s in a very busy part of town, but spent about an hour and a half riding around near my house afterwards trying to get reacquainted with two wheels. It’s been 19 years since I’ve been on a motorcycle, so I was taking it very slowly. Hardest part so far is remembering I don’t have self-cancelling blinkers! @rampage33372 жыл бұрын
yeah if you go for sport bike then the R7 is not worth it. why pick the looks of the R7 over the comfort of the MT-07 when the R7 don't even really have that much more power. like what's the point of being uncomfortable and then also compromising on the actual things that makes a sport bike a sport bike. you get all the discomforts of a sport bike but the power of a comfortable naked. also kind of dumb they named it R7 when it's clearly not even a R7 but a MT-07R. i think the R7 would do even better if it was marketed as MT-07R

OC: I've been riding 5 years on naked bikes, and they are comfortable af and handling has always been amazing. I mainly ride city and backroads, never going very fast, more torquegang than speedgang. But I'd want the R7 because it's different, I'm willing to have to train my back and abs for the looks. I'd honestly only need to change the exhaust, and maybe the plate holder and would have a pretty much perfect looking bike

@WildBikerBill3 жыл бұрын
I think you underestimate how much "train for my back" the R7 likely takes. Typical of 'racebikes with lights' is high footpegs and that lean way forward position. The high footpegs can have your hips and knees on the edge of cramping. The lean way forward position not only strains your back, but puts a ton of weight on your wrists and hands as well. It can all get really old, really fast.

Coming from dirt bikes, naked style bikes would for sure be the perfect choice for you with the dirt style bars and upright seating position, etc. but if you ever get the chance, try riding a 4 cylinder full fairing super sport like an older model R6 if you wanna stick with Yamaha. Definitely different than the naked style bikes but it’s a type of adrenaline and feeling that is simply unmatched by any other type of bike. I bought the FZ-07 new in 2016 after watching Chase's review then. Still have the bike and really cherish it. Got rid of my speed triple a few years back, as I always said the Yamaha was more fun. My buddy bought the FZ-09 same day I bought the 07. I rode it and it was an extremely uncomfortable seat. He picked up a lot of bikes after he traded in the 09: a Busa, a Drz400, Ninja 400, a Kawasaki z650 (which was surprisingly buzzy), and i always was more happy to throw a leg over the 07 after riding those. It's torquey, lightweight, reliable, economical, and affordable. I'll have this bike for a long while. I should be picking up an 890 Duke R in a few weeks :)

The R7 with a flat bar conversion and slightly cut front fairing would be the best in between! Kinda like the Aprilia Tuono styling, more manufactures need to take that 'mid' approach!
@rampage33372 жыл бұрын
nah i hope not. because this is not a ''mid'' approach. it's a more of a mislabeled bike. it's not a sport bike like the R6 it's just kusins with it. the R7 is a MT-07R . and while i do agree that full fairing versions of the naked bikes is a good thing that we do need. i also think that those bikes should at least not compromise comfort when they got a platform that falls flat on it's face when doing the stuff it's suppose to do. they don't need allot of power but they can't make 70hp and call it a day. i would not actually have anything against them doing something like a 90-100hp bike that revs a bit higher and can live up to the name. not against slower mid size bikes but just think that if you are gonna compromise the comfort then at least go all out and don't half ass it. or just don't build it as a full blown track bike in mind and rather do what they did before and just build a sporty touring bike like the FZ-6R you know something that is a bit more comfortable for daily use but still has fairings and the potential to go racing.

I have the black ‘21 MT-07. Pros: Absolutely love it. Rides great, sounds great, looks great (with TST add-ons.) Cons: ride position. Yes it’s comfortable, but after 60-65mph, these guys are right, you feel like a human wind shield! I’d also like to swap out the handle bars, or maybe do the clip ons. That R7, for me and my riding style, looks like it should’ve been my choice (based on looks and ride style alone.) I came up on sport bikes, so it’s hard for me to not want to lay on the tank and open it up. Other than that, they’re pretty much the same bike (same engine at least). Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t get rid of my bike, but I do prefer the sport bike setup more than the upright. Great video as always, Chase.

As far as fun factors go: I actually hear that the MT-07 is the way to go over the 09. People say since it’s lighter and you feel you get more ‘use’ out of it, it’s more fun. Whereas the other has more power but feels more like a chore doing anything. I think even Chase in one of his videos mentioned he probably would do the MT-07 over his MT10 because of that.

My opinion is based on data/specs, not on how they feel (because I haven't tried them out). That being said, it's definitely the R7 for me, because better aero= more speed AND better MPG (a.k.a. 'Smiles Per Gallon'). I love my Ninja 300 for that reason, but still find the riding position too upright. Reason #2 for R7, The STYLING! I guess I'm partial to sportbikes, anyways. 🏍

Im trying to choose my first bike and Im stuck between the mt-07 and R7. I think what you said about being "On the bike" vs "Feeling In the BIke" is going to be what makes me lean MT-07. I'm mostly going to be riding around small towns and to work and back (20 miles round trip) on a 50-55mph road. The seating position is much closer to downhill mountain biking and dirt bikes and riding a bicycle with no hands which I can do for miles and miles, that I really think I'm leaning MT07. Other then that i totally agree that the MT07 is really playful and great fun to ride!

R7 because i want and need the fairings (both for the style and highway wind protection). It also lets me put a custom paint job & decals on it in the future. But what i'm really struggling with is R7 or Ninja 650. For city & country riding. THAT is the big question. I never considered Yamaha as a starter until the R7. R3 was too weak compared to a Ninja 650, but an R6 was too powerful / expensive. Extremely clever move by Yamaha to put a starter mid-tier bike, more powerful than the R3 but not as wild as the R6 (and reputedly the R7 has a much more linear power band just like the Ninja 650, making it easy to predict). The main remaining advantage to the Ninja 650 i think is that its supposed to be extremely comfortable even during long rides, and that the TFT is spectacularly good, i still dont know how the R7 stacks up in that regard.
@getty69743 жыл бұрын
R3 to ninja 650 for starters is a bad comparison, there is a ninja 400 in that category. Also this is not by personal experience but all the info i've gotten from KZbin ninja650 is the most bland 650 class bike on the market. I know my preferance is only influenced by watching motovloggers talk about these bikes but in that regard i would have to go with the r7 if talking about supersports. Actually i propably would go test ride cbr650r and r7 and choose from those 2. If naked bike i would go definetly with street triple, i love the triumph triple so much for my needs.

How did you like the r7?
@GuakDian2 жыл бұрын
@@bens6865 I came from a cbr300. It was heavier but now that I’m used to it it feels like a faster cbr300. It is a much more aggressive stance leaning over the gas tank though. But I don’t mind it. Corning is more fun and the low end is super torquey which is super fun. It’s an all around fun bike that looks like a race bike and feels like a race bike but it won’t scare you too bad when you give it throttle because the power isn’t even close to say an r6. How narrow it is is nice too. I’m 5’ 9” and my knees are tucked up but because the bike is so narrow it’s not uncomfortable for me

Ha ha,.... Good review guys. Ok Chase. Hands down the MT . If I had modded that MT....., it would have a lower seat, ( sitting in the bike ,per se), and more cushy seat geometry....>>>> ends you up with the Bolt...( although its an IL2 rather than a CP2 engine). Either way,... The R7 loses it's bet with me....And the MT needs a windscreen to boot. Ciao.

OC: I’m going with the MT-07. I’ve been looking for a first bike and don’t want the low power of a 300 but a 600 is a bit too much. Being a beginner on the MT-07 I would have much better balance, comfortably and being 5’ 6” a slightly lower seat height.

for the price mt07. but for the looks, r7 forsure

MT-07 is hard to beat even when its compared to basically the same bike. Even with the R7 having a few higher grade components the MT-07 is king on the street. Plus the MT-07 is cheaper. I love mine I know that much.

ex MT-07 rider here. I don't see the appeal of an aggressive sporty bike with the c2 engine in it. The r6 was impractical on the road but it was a fun screaming inline 4. The r7 is gonna get left by any inline 4 sport bike on a track or on the streets after 2nd gear. It also vibrates a lot and after 6k rpm the torque just isn't there. The MT07 is a great bike to learn on and have as a commuter if you work close to home. But on the weekend I'd be begging to ride anything else.
