Perfectly crafted -- yes! Perfect description. I'm kind of ashamed to admit this, but I was sort of a music snob when this record came out and didn't think I liked it. But the older I got, the more open-minded and less snobby I got about pop music. I recognize and really appreciate well crafted songs now. And ABBA is another group whose records I used to turn up my nose at when I was young -- now I think they and a lot of their records were amazing!

Oh hell yes!! Yeah I remember that record or at least hearing it on the radio when I was 7 or something (though it had been released a year or so prior I think it was 1975 when the Sedaka's Back record came out) And of course laughter in the rain which was the tune I constantly heard which is a damn pleasure isn't it?! And learned a little bit in the past couple years which I'm sure anybody knew who was actually around when it was released I was only six or five but gobbled up music like it was well what it is a delicious confection LOL but yeah to get on with my long-winded deal I know(since he told me)that Elton John started Rocket records and then signed Neil to it and of course Bad Blood that has Elton singing the high harmony part. And now that I think about it, the great performance is on The Midnight Special, Elton's not there mind you but Neil singing his ass off. During the covid thing everyday he would have his little podcast and me and a friend could tell he just bought a pack of like two solid color t-shirts for maybe Sears Walmart target. Cuz he is wearing the hell out of them LOL we'd be like nah man you wore that black one four days ago need to change it up hahaha. Thanks for your comment though sometimes I just can't help but talk and talk and talk and it is a major passion of mine music playing it certainly listening to it. Have a great day my friend

@aerynsunx3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jamel! The 'Midnight Special' was a treasure. I'm so glad I grew up with it. They were Toni Tennille (pronounced like TEN-neal) and Daryl Dragon (R.I.P.), a married couple. They did divorce *years* later, but they were a close couple at this time. Fun fact: Neil Sedaka, a late 50s-early 60s pop star/songwriter, wrote this song. The success of this single brought a resurgence to his career in the mid 70's. And yes, this was definitely a *live* performance. ☮✌🏽 out.

Now that's a lot of unasked for news but I'm very impressed with Daryl's ability to play all these separate things and Tony Tennille playing real keyboards that you can hear and of course live vocals and that drummer who's definitely doing his part. Thanks again man, and yep The Midnight Special we all love it. I had to live through this song's release at the time. I was very young, but I still remember it, and it was _everywhere_ .

This came out the year I was born and was one of my Mom’s favorites. We played the 45 over & over. She passed in February & I thank you for reminding me of those times. 💜

They also did an excellent pop love song that year, "The Way I Want To Touch You." Sultry! It's worth a listen. "You are sunshine, you are shadow. . ."

I love how C & T were the wholesome 70s musical duo for the whole family to enjoy but three of their biggest hits were “Do That To Me One More Time”, “The Way I Want To Touch You” and “You Never Done It Like That”.

Toni Tennille smiled enough to get both of them their own TV variety show. Later, she sang backing vocals on Pink Floyd's The Wall album

Prior to them hitting the jackpot with this song they were the house band at a club/restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. I was lucky enough to have seen them there several times and they were absolutely a knockout in a small venue. (My memory isn't good enough to tell what restaurant it was but I believe it was somewhere on Ventura Boulevard.) The multiple keyboard setup worked great in the club as you got a full sound in spite of small number of musical instruments. Ah, memories.
