I commented on another one of your Elvis Reactions that I was at an Elvis concert when I was 12. He saw a woman catch a scarf and had it taken away by another woman. He called the woman to the stage and told her to take one of his rings instead. She was speechless and he took one off and said this is a nice one, take it, and gave it to her!

Great video! The crowd applauds because I'll Remember You is written by Kui Lee, popular among Hawaiians and Elvis and the venue actually didn't charge attendees, hoping that any attendees donate whatever they can to the Kui Lee cancer fund (Lee died of cancer in 1966). Just before he sang this, he even says they were supposed to raise $25,000 but actually raised $75,000. Over $500k in today's standards.

Elvis’ little smirk and nod at 3:10 was an inside joke to his back up singers who all were musical conservatory students. Elvis never had singing lessons and loved to rub that in.

All the songs were 2 minutes and a little more. Elvis and all the songs in the 50's and 60"s. Elvis had it all,talent, incredible good looks, humility, kindness. I heard that if you were talking to him he was a regular guy,i ( or girl) interested in what you were saying, like you were important. I knew someone like that and it's really nice and rare. Needless to say I love Elvis. Someone said if once you were an Elvis fan you would always be an Elvis fan. It's true.

Don't know if it's said already, but Elvis (along with his friend who I can't remember for the life of me) helped bring down the race-barriers at the time in the '50s. His music, in the radio, was at first thought to sound ''too black'' for the ''white'' stations, and ''too white'' for the ''black'' stations. His R'n'B influences were apparent, but so was his charm and talent so the world/America had no choice but to succumb to this man called ''Elvis'' and his pelvis. Girl's were screamin', hollerin'... This mommy's boy was a unit, that brought together the blacks and the whites little by little. The man had no prejudice I'm sure.

Elvis had the "all of it" factor"! Elvis just loved his rings , & even designed some of them,but, he was also known to give them away at the drop of a hat, especially to strangers who were having financial difficulties! I also understand that he had his jeweler travel with him when he was on the road ,because he did not want to miss anyone's birthday! That's our Elvis!! This beautiful song was prophetic because we will always remember him! (btw : songs may have been shorter in those days, but, they were long on quality, especially if Elvis was singing them!) I'd like to request : "Just Pretend," "Don't Cry Daddy" , & "Hurt"! So glad you are enjoying this journey! We all enjoy sharing it with you ! Stay on the Elvis road, it's a sweet trip ! Great reaction ,as usual!

Bro, one of my favorite. Elvis' version of this song he originally recorded in 1966 as a bonus track on the Spinout movie soundtrack.. He put this song in the concert because the songwriter was a famous Hawaiian song writer, Kuali Lee who died of cancer and the proceeds from this show was to go to the cancer fund in Lee's name. Originally thinking they would raise $25k in fact they raised $75k. Elvis did not get paid for this concert. He actually gave, I believe, 1k to the cause. I love Elvis' impromptu version of Hawaiian classic, Beyond The Reef. Elvis played piano and sang along a quarter. A dream of his that he wanted to do. Another song from the 1966 session. Was never intended for anyone to hear. Was secretly recorded in the studio. Simply amazing and Beautifully haunting! I can talk for days about Elvis and his recording catalog.

Not only the king of rock but king if bling too. Some songs linger than others I think to get more in the show. Elvis wanted his fans to be wowed every show, every song. And believe me we're still wowed by him! Good job!
@TheBigGuyATX4 жыл бұрын
Elvis was a first on so many levels. He did bling before it was a thing. He was the first to have a "crib" (mini palace) with a fleet of luxury & custom vehicles, even a plane. In Nashville, at the Country Music Hall of Fame, you can see his cadillac, with a lustre pearl paint job before that kind of paint/mix was possible. How did he do it? He ordered paint to be mixed with crushed diamonds and fish scales. The car looks like it was painted yesterday! Today, we have a lustre pearl paint with modern mixing & technology, but Elvis had a vision in the 60s of what he wanted, and had to invent it. Nobody but Elvis could do that. But yes, his rings!! There's one in particular that I have wanted to "remake" for myself for many years. I used to pause his concert videos myself just to stare at the rings. He had a personal jeweler in Memphis who'd carry a suitcase of custom rings made just for Elvis. This jeweler was on retainer with Elvis and had to fly to Elvis with the suitcase whereever Elvis was and whenever Elvis had an itch for a new ring. :-) Now that's G!!

I seen many of Elvis pieces of jewelry , his outfits (including this one) in the Elvis museum across the street from Graceland back in the early 90's. Many of those rings were rhinestones. Elvis spent more money on others than he did himself. He didn't have to have the most expensive jewels (although he did have some pieces worth alot) , he was more interested in whether he liked it or not. That was one of his greatest qualities. He was very humble , and always buying gifts for others . (even total strangers)

Your reaction is really cool. I like how you comment on his rings. This song was originally recorded by Elvis in 1966 as a studio song instead of a soundtrack song. This concert version is also beautiful. His voice was deeper here. Most of Elvis' songs were short, around the two to two and a half minute length. Some were a little longer, but around that range. You should do a video on ' I Don't Want To Be Tied ', from 1962 movie Girls Girls Girls. It is Elvis at his hip swinging coolest.
@mikem9574 жыл бұрын
Back then songs were short in timeframe for radio play, but when he performed live he would shorten longer songs at times to get in more. The studio version of I'll Remember You is much longer with an instrumental solo break. This concert was 60 minutes due to it being televised globally. His concerts were on average about 60-75 minutes a show with his backup groups doing opening a TS then a comedian then intermission and Elvis was the main event of course.

About the shortness of songs of that era, Top 40 AM radio back then dictated how long songs could be (the shorter the song, the more ads could be played in an hour). When alternative radio (FM) started about 1970, it was the start of ending all of that, because performance and artistry became more important to listeners, who gravitated to radio stations that played full-length music. BTW, thanks for all that you do! I'm a fan.

You should go to Memphis Tennessee some time , and visit his home Graceland. You will be in awe of everything still the way he left it. Back when I went in the early 90's , they gave you headphones with a cassette player to put on for the tour. As soon as you walked through the front door he was singing "Welcome To My World". I wanted to cry. That is such a beautiful song anyway , but you could feel his presence. Walking downstairs , I was thinking how I was holding the handrail that he held. His horses were still alive outside at the time. It was spectacular!
