I love that you listen to the instruments but remember the meaning why the songs were created. They have a message in every song. This song is about the business behind war, and how privileged politicians start them, but expect the poor to fight them. kind of reminds me of War Pigs from Black Sabbath with the same message

@Tammy T Ask any Vientnam vet about that and they'll tell you about the waste of human lives because of that particular war being perceived as some prestige thing for the government at the time and when the poor dried up, they started to draft in the children of the rich since there was a shortage of soldiers. People who refused to go into service faced prison sentences.

Its about military recruiters convincing kids how badass it is to be a soldier and go to war so they can grind them up in the war machine.

It’s not exactly subtle either, the song is called bring your own bomb and the chorus says “dancing in the desert” aka invading Iraq, and “blowing up the sunshine” dropping bombs.

"That note he hit..." is called a pinched harmonic. It sounds really badass because he is playing with tons of distortion and gives the note a slow, wavy tremolo by bending the string up and down.

Has anyone recommended Boom to him yet? Every time I hear it, I burst into tears. Really simple song but so so powerful and beautiful. I think you would really like and appreciate the message it had. If no one has heard it before I highly recommend you give it a listen. I remember when I heard it was being filmed. I wish I had been there protesting too.

I am LOVING you right now! The faces and loss for words and surprise, etc., etc. I can all relate to. System is my favorite band but they are quite interesting especially when you first pay attention to them. There is a hell of a lot going on in one song. I'm still amazed by all of their music.

The lalalala part is a direct influence of their Armenian background. That type of arpeggio or similar can be heard in music from lots of eastern world cultures which is why it sounds so familiar

I think this is S.O.A.D's best song and I've listened to their entire discography. It's incredibly real. It gives me chills every time remembering those innocent men and women who unnecessarily died under the presidency of g.w. bush for the nationalistic exploitation of the middle east for oil.

Real Thing by Faith No More is another cool one.-Mike Patton has one of the largest vocal ranges around currently. When this first came out, I was in college and the Iraq war had just started, which is what this song is about. It was a seriously powerful song to hear at that time. I was lucky enough to see them live twice 🤘💙🔥

BYOB assaults the listener with it's blunt lyrics and it's musical and vocal ferocity, and then juxtapositions that to this killer groove and abstract metaphor lyrics. Awesome song writing.

Btw, I really like the way you react & review songs. Especially when you briefly pause & share your thoughts. (and back up a bit before unpausing it. Omg! thanks for that!:) I really feel that you give artists a chance on showing you what they got without any preconceived notions or jumping ahead & assuming what songs mean or judging just by a video. Lots of good bands that had great songs but viewers get distracted by the video. (Ex: Soundgarden's (Chris Cornell) "BLACK HOLE SUN" kooky video but incredible song!)

They’re not your garden variety, run-of-the-mill rock band. Their music often speaks on behalf of the multitudes of vulnerable, disadvantaged, underprivileged, and oppressed people around the globe. This song was a protest against the Iraq invasion "Operation enduring freedom" and the way it was presented to the world: As one big party of liberation. The arc words of the song are "Why don't presidents fight the war, why do they always send the poor?" Pointing out that the rich are being spared being send off to fight that war.
