The whole Obsolete album is a concept album, it's a tip of the hat to James Cameron and the concept of the film Terminator. They got the name "Fear Factory" from growing up in L. A. in the 70's/80's. That it in and of itself was a Fear Factory with gang violence, etc.

@@zane4575 Obsolete is a concept album. It's not a straight forward story like 2112, or Operation: Mindcrime, where there is a distinct cast of characters. However it has a continuous theme throughout. The following album Digimortal is almost a direct continuation of Obsolete.

Loving your choices! You'll like this group; they're one of the original industrial/metal blenders. This whole album is amazing. It's a concept album based around a future where machines have taken control of humanity; definitely worth a whole listen. 'Demanufacture' is worth a listen as well. The single 'Zero Signal' off that album was played during the Johnny Cage/Scorpion fight in the first Mortal Kombat movie. That was my intro to them back in '94. Again, thank you for doing FF. This one is from an album that has things to read between the songs. The title of this song is basically a character, an intelligent machine, and this is his introduction to humanity. This album kind of needs to be listened to in its entirety in order with the context of what it’s about to be fully appreciated. All the songs are great. This album was my introduction to FF. They can be heavy(not just instrumentally) if you really look into it. I definitely recommend the opening track, Shock. It’s basically about if we made Skynet and when it wakes up.

Helped distract my mind from the pain in my body and feet particularly. Yeah, eventually 9 miles wasn't shit, but that was my first hump.

You have to understand this Jamel, guys... I was a young Italian Designer in London with an already long career in Italy for my age, I came from a professional background which couldn't be classified by their creative recruitment machine and that gave me a very hard time in UK and London in particular, where the professional system is a killing machine and was able to grind you and crush you if you didn't fit into the box. They looked at me like they were facing an alien, I was a damn maverick on a constant flight... a man among killing machines and I had to survive, so I did, I survived... spent so many nights walking along the City streets and the Docklands because I had no money to pay for a bed in hostels all the nights, I had to save as much money as possible, and I didn't want to end up sleeping on the streets like a homeless, so walking without to stop was the only way to not feel the cold and the loneliness of a stranger, an alien, in London. I was lucky that I was used to sleep only a little per day, I was able to not sleep even for 3 consecutive nights, and where the sun was finally making the day I went back to hunt a job or a client for a logo, a leaflet... anything I could do to survive and make myself a name. Most of the times I was used to go to NABS, a no profit organization helping young creative talents to find their 1st job and old professionals looking for help in searching a new one. I was young and yet I was having the difficulties older professionals of twice my age had at that time... that's the tough scenario I was living into. I felt like the O'Connors in Terminator... me against the machines, it really was! So here come the Fear Factory... their adrenaline music was the propeller for the maverick I was, I would have been dead without them injecting their words and sounds into my ears to boost me up and make my day. Their "Obsolete" album was the one I was used to dig into more than any other from them... it was a constant loop repeating again and again and again and all over again! Hail to Fear Factory!!!

The things Burton C. Bell can do with his voice are stunning. Dude can belt it out like an opera singer and he can also growl and roar like a bear or scream like he's on fire. This album and "Demanufacture," its "prologue" in a lot of ways, are absolute masterpieces of the genre and the concept/story of this album is both thrilling and terrifying. If you ever decide to listen to it (not including the bonus tracks from the rerelease), try to find the liner notes online because the text and sketches fill in the gaps between the songs to make for a fully immersive experience.

This is a song part of a story album. Edgecrusher is the protagonist, Smasher/ Devourer is the bounty hunter after him in a post apocalyptic world. Securitron is the police and the Edgecrusher must go into hiding in Descent. High Tech hate is where the Edgecrusher watches the Antagonists wipe out humanity and Freedom or Fire is like the resistance from humankind. Title track Obsolete (Featuring Gary Numan) talks about humankind eradicated. Then you get into Resurrection and Timelessness is where he finds his humanity. Obsolete is a classic album.

Other songs are from the human perspective. Dino (guitar) and Raymond(drums) are the minds behind that unique sonic assault. Hey there Jamel! Glad to see that your channel is taking off and doing well. Been a fan since the beginning! Had a few recommendations for you to check out that should be right in your wheelhouse, in case you wanted to expand your horizons. First, I can’t recommend “Where Owls Know My Name” by Rivers of Nihil enough. An extremely talented band that actually features a rather unique instrument in the middle of the song (you’ll be blown away by the solo). Second, “Mirrors” by Fit For an Autopsy. They are a deathcore band that I’m sure you will fall in love with - very tight and heavy as hell. The singer has one of the best growl/screams in all of metal. Lastly, “The Bee” by Amorphis. The band has been around for a few decades now, and their last album or two has dipped toes into the folk metal scene (akin to Eluveitie). As a metal head for 30 years and former musician I tend to gravitate towards bands that are technically sound that don’t put out carbon copy songs. I really think that you will dig all three choices. Cheers buddy.
