My favorite part of this song is that the “flute solo” is actually a “recorder” solo. As in the obnoxious instruments everybody learned how to play in elementary school and never played again lol. And not only that but it’s played by the Captain himself. If you can find the music video they show him playing it in that. These live shows aren’t always really performed “live” and I guess they just didn’t have a recorder? Or maybe it was in the shop? 😅 As far as I know it’s the best selling song to ever chart on the Billboard 100 with a Recorder solo in it 😆.

Catherine Antoinette "Toni" Tenille is the only officially recognised "Beach Girl". As part of the Wrecking Crew, she appears on some Beach Boys recordings. She and Daryl, along with Glenn Campbell, toured with the band as well.

Toni Tennille’s then husband is Daryl Dragon. He is the son of Conductor, Composer and Arranger, Carmen Dragon. Beach Boys member lead singer, Mike Love, gave him the nickname “Captain Keyboard”, and the name stuck!

Apparently first lady Betty Ford requested The Way I Want to Touch You when they performed at the White House in 1976. Until the first lady spoke up, they weren't going to perform it because they thought it wasn't appropriate for the venue.

In an interview with Toni after this song came out and her mother heard it, her mother was appalled at what the lyrics said. Toni said that it was not what she was thinking and that if she listened to the lyrics closely she would hear that what Toni wanted "one more time" was for her man to kiss her like he did before.

Their show was really good. If I am not totally mistaken, on the last segment Daryl Dragon would invite people to try and bring an instrument that he couldn't play. He was never stumped. He was very talented. Great singers and magic together.

I listened the H*ll out of this in elementary school--again.. another one that someone older in my family had on vinyl record- I just loved it- “Love will keep us together” was my favorite! Daryl Dragon's father, Carmen Dragon, was a famous orchestra conductor and composer. He was most well known for his musical work in Hollywood films. He won an Oscar in 1944 for his work on the musical Cover Girl starring Rita Hayworth. He also scored Invasion of the Body Snatchers in 1956. Gotta admit... the seventies were SMOOOOOOOOOOOOTH and mellow... makes me wish I'd been born a decade or so earlier... born in 1970 so although I love the music and grew up with it... I was singing songs and had NO clue what I was singing about!! By the time I figured it out, the music totally changed.

Yes, my favorite Captain & Tennile tune! Toni was just so naturally talented & effervescent. I remember watching their tv show in the 70's. Man alive I loved this reaction, Jamel! May I suggest their song "Shop Around" . It's ultra upbeat & really showcases Toni's vocal chops. Guaranteed you'll dig it! I do recommend the audio of it though, because it is much funkier & gritty than their live performance of it & you really miss alot of that. ✌🤩

Toni wrote this all by her lonesome, with Daryl producing on this, their first album for Casablanca Records, released in Fall 1979 in the US. In fact, she wrote half of the eight songs on their "Make Your Move" album. The duo released four albums for A&M records prior to signing with Neil Bogart's label, finally becoming label mates with KISS! "DTTMOMT" was their second #1 hit, after 1975's Grammy Record of the Year, "Love Will Keep Us Together."
