I enjoyed this so much I didn’t even realize it had been an hour! The ending though...my dad left when I was 6 and I didn’t hear from him for 11 years. He actually did keep tabs on me and my sister as we grew up, but it offended and hurt me more than anything to find out. A distant relative I didn’t even know existed had been filling my dad in on my life through the years; I couldn’t understand how he could talk about me, but never to me. The ending got me.
@LitaMendoza074 жыл бұрын
FUDDLEYP JONES My dad and I have talked at great lengths about the past and his actions. I do understand why he left and I am beyond grateful for the way life happened. My mom handled his leaving beautifully; she never spoke ill of my dad and knew he would contact us again one day, so she left our house phone in service with the same number (he called that same number after all those years). My dad speaks highly of my mother and still loves her. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have both parents, and I see so many great fathers who are being kept from their kids. It breaks my heart for those men. I agree, all you can do is love your daughter from afar and be there when she comes around, and she will. I don’t know if you like to write, but I would suggest keeping an open letter to your daughter and writing in it as often as you think about her. Then one day you can give/send it to her so she knows how much you think about her and wish she was in your life.

@@JayLarsonComedy Jay, I loved it so much as well, as you've maybe seen from my multiple comments. Sometimes in the bit you even had that Ricky Gervais look and feel, but with the Larson touch. What I also love about this special is the kind of (this is not a bad thing) culturally centrist POV of it - it felt like you related to the whole world with your words, you didn't overdrown it in Murican or Anglocentric culture, and you acknowledged other cultures apart from the anglocentric (including UK, AUS, US, and even Europe for good measure), what I'm trying to say is: you put your special (if it were a Salad) into a 'Global Dressing' of sorts, and managed to get on the 'relate' instead of the 'generic' path (the latter of which is where most comedians land if the try this route). But with you it comes so naturally, as you try to relate to stuff that everyone no matter where they live can relate to, without you being boring or carbon-copy-feeling in your lines and deliveries for even a single moment. Great job man, you're up there with the greats as far as comedy is concerned. I know you're a very humble guy so don't even feel forced to reply, just take the compliment man - you deserve it :) Would love to see you on Rogan one day, who knows, it coule happen and the two of you would get along great 😁

Comedy is often tragedy, in reverse. That's what I want to see, in anything: a real person pulling back the curtains on tough shit, owning it and articulating personal truths that are uncomfortable to admit. I felt like I was watching a dude in therapy. Really funny stuff. Then, it was a Ted Talk. More funny. Then, tears. This should be replicated. This is: going through adversity and hearing somebody else's stories and that creating the impulse to get after your fucking life and quit being afraid. Bravo. Big art. Lifetime follower. Thanks Payton. Self deprecation is a big part of comedy, and this was my version of that!

Jay Larson First of all, holy crap, thank you for replying to me! And also, thank you for being a badass role model and inspiration to me. I’m finishing college just so I don’t hate myself but the goal is to do comedy! Wish me luck and good luck to you!

So many great comics out of Boston, super proud to be a guy from boston who does comedy. I started in Los Angeles but love going back to perform in Boston. I appreciate the love. Obviously you know Burr and Dane but also check out Josh Gondleman, Don Gavin and Gary Gullman, his new special is great and his joke about the abbreviations of the states is amazing!

Why did I cry? Oh yeah, because I was a foster kid and I've been fighting against feeling like I had no place in this world since I can remember being sentient. I laughed, I cried... a great time was had overall! Good work!
