Awesome photography. You have come quite a way. Thank you for all the effort in sharing this with us. I have a comment/suggestion for you. Just some advice from an old man who has lived off wood heat all my life. When cutting medium sized logs with an axe chop it like this. your swing should be right then left, then left then right, right then left. you will be surprized how much more material you will remove and with less effort. Give it a shot. Thanks again.

I am 65 yo and due to spine issues can no longer hike. This said, I still enjoy the outdoors and natural beauty. I have come to enjoy your videos because nature, your cozy cabin/tent stories are telling about life in the wilderness. I once spent a month in the wilderness of California. It was awesome. And I think your girlfriend is wonderful. I hope you marry her! PS, your cooking is amazing. If I ate the way you can, I would be a blimp. Goes to show you the value of vigorous exercise.

I'm always delighted to see you arrive at your camp and its been untouched. A testament to the remoteness and character of the people in the area. Dude, Steak a medley of root vegetables, Bacon, Coffee and the Bears are just awaking up and starving??? Invite them over, meet your neighbors. A BBQ some songs around a campfire. Make a solid woodland buddy friend thing with the Ursus family. Promise them donuts when you come back and they will protect your property like watchdogs.

Spring and Winter my 2 favorite seasons. Fall is so beautiful too. But I just like to hang onto that last little bit of Winter with the crocus starting to poke threw and the warmth on my face and a good fire. Nice to see the area from the air. Never miss a video. However, lol, it freaks me to see you saw 2 logs of wood at once. It significantly increases the chances of saw kickback…and being alone in the woods , on foot, could be disastrous. Food for thought. Keep ‘em coming Jay!! Cheers!!

Suggestion: get yourself reasonably priced but easy to replace eating utensils that you wash and put away to leave at the campsite. Alternatively, you can try crafting your own. If you have access to horn, you can use hot oil to soften the material enough to carve and shape it to your needs.

A trick I adopted years ago and teach is when you leave camp set your wood stove / fire pit up for a fire. That way when coming back if something happens like you fall into the water or get hurt your fire is ready to go instantly.

Another great video. I’m glad you explained about the bears and showed the devices you use. Of course the food part is great too. Here in the South we call that pork bacon (White meat) because it’s so white. We usually wash it first since it’s so salty. Yeah we eat it a lot here in Alabama. Your camp site is beautiful even without the snow. I’m sure the air quality is fresh. Thanks for bringing us along. 😀

We had bears in southern CA. I had an older Arab mare with dry hooves. We also had black bears. There was a well-meaning guy who told me bacon grease was the best hoof care to heal the dry condition. The bears had been known to cross the road and climb our trees. It just did not seem like a good idea to slather her feet with the bacon grease and get chased by bears.

Spring has sprung! Soon enough you'll have to take the long way to get to the tent, but then you'll be able to get some fishing in so it'll be worth it. Adding the drone shots was a big plus too. Once things have thawed out you should check the corner of the tent platform to see if it settled any more. By the looks of it, the frozen ground hasn't moved any during the winter, but that might change in warmer temperatures. As always, thanks for sharing.

I remember you mentioned that you had the covid not long ago, it's a shame but it does affect your sense of smell for a little while, had it 10 months ago and still iffy myself sometimes. Hang in there bud, you'll get better. You really should leave a set of cutlery at the tent, you can clean them thoroughly with snow, store them above with other items. I am with you about the chocolate, Cadbury makes the best, my favorite is the fruit and nut bar. caramello is awesome too, Enjoy

Hi Jay, its hard to avoid sweating on a hike. In winter conditions I always take another set of clothes and change immediatly upon arrival. Then you can warm up immediately, take your time setting the fire in the wood stove and and dry out your clothes. No chills, or at least they don't last long. Also remove layers as you warm up on a hike without delay. Minimizing the overheating will reduce the sweathing too. I add and remove clothing fast. If you get too wet, you are at high risk of Hypothermia if something goes wrong. Not to mention there is no help on the way any time soon.
