I really enjoy watching your videos! I’m an old gal who used to love camping out and skidooing! Did it for many years . I loved camping enough that when I was young . I would pack my belongings and head out to the bush the day school got out and I would go back home the day before school would start again ! Never step foot in town for the two months! I was 14-15 years old. It was my life! I’m now 71 and if I wasn’t so sick with cancer I would love to still be out there! It was the life. I love watching you love what you’re doing . I know that exact feeling you are feeling. Not everyone gets to experience that in a life time! Continue doing what you do! Thx for sharing .

Batteries are less efficient as they get cold. Keep your booster pack in the tent and warm and you won't have any issues. You can always take the battery out of the Ski Doo and keep it warm as well. The battery will last longer, but its more work on your end and not as convenient

Thanks Jay for the video. As others may have already said about the propane. I’m a chemist so the real issue is due to the equation PV=nRT aka the ideal gas law. P is pressure, V is volume, and T is temp. The lower the temperature the lower the vapor pressure of the propane so it won’t vaporize to flow. It’s not that the propane gels up like you said but that it won’t vaporize so easily.

actually below -42C the propane stops boiling so it stops being a gas and will become liquid so it does not flow out the nozzle as gas so it cannot be ignited. yes it boils at around -42C but it also boils at -10C :) Love your videos btw
@kamalpreetsinghgill1396Күн бұрын
The outside temp doesnt need to be -42 for propane to stop burning, it can happen even at -30 because when you burn propane, due to law of thermodynamics, the temp of propane starts to drop, if it drops belpw -42, propane wont boil.
@Trev6917ND15 сағат бұрын
Exactly, when your cooling down the temp of the propane to more then -42 it STOPS boiling, it will start boiling again when the temp gets back above that. So technically most of what he said was true, Propane boils at -42, but its boiling going up in temp not down, and the process of boiling causes some energy loss and it may still not vaporize well still till it's back about like -30 like the other comment says. Propane is stored in canisters as a liquid. it's a liquid even at positive 40 degrees because it's under soooo much pressure. Letting it out removes pressure which causes it to boil or vaporize and you can burn it.

From the voice of experience: When splitting wood using the over the shoulder method, put your OPPOSITE foot forward. If you happen to hit only a glancing blow, the axe will swing through and you don’t want your forward leg to be in the path of the blade. I only did it once but destroyed a pair of Levi’s 501s, a Nike cross trainer - split the laces and tongue clean in half - and cut a hole in my sock. Only got a scratch, but it could have been so much worse. Great video, as always!

According to the Internet, “When you open the valve on a propane tank to use in your grill, the liquid propane boils back into propane gas and reaches a temperature of about -43.6 F.” So…at temperatures higher than this, propane exists as a gas (I.e., you can burn it in your lamp), while at temperatures below this, it remains as a liquid (I.e., no light).

Jay, Grew up in Vermont on Dairy Farm. We had a huge wood cooking stove in kitchen and later on added an electric stove. The room was big for kitchens, as the table could sit 15-18 easily. Grandma would make bread everyday and homemade donuts every Sunday on the wood stove. The woodshed was also massive with sliding barn doors for summer wood delivery. Food always tasted better when it was cooked in the wood stove oven, heck the whole house smelled better!

Jay, love watching your outdoor shows. Hubby and I camped lots of times. Found a trick (from someone else, but it works) to get that creosote off your glass on your wood stove. Let it cool way down. Probably first thing in morning especially if fire goes out. Get a pan of water and some paper towels. Wet the paper towels, dip in the cold ashes from inside your stove and in a circular motion, lightly scrub the inside of your glass. It should all come right off. Seen it many times and appears to work great. Good luck. Happy Holidays and keep safe and warm this winter. .

Great vids! A few things with your snowmachine for cold starts: Try a bit thinner oil ( at dealers advice of course) this will help on very cold starts. The battery may not be enough CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) and I know you don't always have a power source but there is a battery heating pad that may also help. Lastly maybe have your stator checked to see if it is charging your battery properly! You may have a parasitic draw but I think its just the very cold temps. AGM batteries are mostly used in powersports and usually perform very well in the cold.
