A lot of people don't know this but the McLaren V8 is actually a Nissan design. Nissan's R390 GT1 Le Mans entry in 1997 had a twin-turbo 3.5 liter aluminum V8 the VRH35. The McLaren V8 is based on. McLaren chose the VRH35 for the basis of its engine program and bought the rights to it from TWR. McLaren named it the M838T and it was first in the MP4-12C in 2011. Just an interesting fact.

In fact, which prestige manufacturer do we know that doesn't follow this train of evolution? Ferrari. Yups Lamborghini. Yups Aston Martin. Tick. Porsche. Definitely, absolutely, totally! Commercially speaking, anyone who thinks it's good to just start all over and throw away the recognisable features of a brand (that in McLaren's case is also not that old remember - thus still building awareness) is just on dream cuckoo land.
