The extra tube on the Tiptronic & X51 engined cars intake hose isn't a breather, its a vacuum line that needs to be connected to the intake (The Porsche Training Notes for the engine calls it a sucking Jet Pump). Samco Sport make the silicone intake hose with the off take to connect to the extra tube. Its the correct way of doing it and makes for a much cleaner looking installation.

I did this same kit and the IPD plenum with. k&N filter. The sounds is amazing. The car sound so much throatier and runs so nice now. Power down low on a tip is so welcomed.

Jay. I have installed the F6 intake system in my 996.1. I noticed a difference in response, I am supper happy with the F6 product I do not have an exhaust system installed

The resonator is actually in the airbox. My 996 came with this mod and I ended up putting the factory intake hose back on. The silicon hose doesn’t make any power, this is a noise mod. The factory resonator tames the intake howl at 5k rpm, it’s quite loud without it which I’m a little surprised wasn’t discovered in the video.

I had the large silicone pipe on mine, but It was too boomy and drony around 2.5to 3k when coupled with top gear silencers. Fun to start with but became annoying. It really depends on your exact silencer config. Obviously works with yours.

I am replacing the taillights with a newer look on the guards red 996 and next maybe the front lights but my mechanic says only original stock fits front well. Our window tint is the same but I'm where the sun shines all the time in AZ.

My 996.1 came with a similar setup (as well as the Fister mod…go me!). Therefore I do not have any point of comparison, but I do know that the car simply howls above 5000 rpm.

Thanks! On that car I had a valved Cargraphic exhaust (after cats) with stock headers. With the Flat6 modification shown in this video it made a WONDERFUL noise! About to engage on a custom exhaust on the 928 so stay tuned because that has a V8! Hehehehe!

Did it improve the performance? I have read on a couple of UK based owner sites, it can actually decrease power and Torque a little. Your Tiptronic box, on kickdown do you have to put your put right down for it to take effect? My C4S has the same Mercedes gearbox.

The helmholtz resonator doesn’t impact power at all. The helmholtz resonator is a chamber and a kneck. A bit like a bottle. When air blows over the kneck and into the chamber it creates air pressure. That air pressure comes back out and cancels out the frequency coming back through your main intake. The Germans made this to meet noise emissions. It does nothing for power. The word cold air intake is misleading. You can create the same effect by just placing a blanking plug in the helmholtz resonator and use your existing intake pipe. You don’t need a whole kit. It worth noting on a 996 you can unscrew the whole Helmholtz resonator inside the airbox which increases the surface area of the filter. Some say this can increase power as you have more air. You cannot remove this on a 997 as it’s moulded in the airbox. I’ve made Helmholtz resonators for exhausts to change the sound in the same way.
