I mistakenly bought this exact lens. Paired with my A73 with an adapter and to be honest. I like it a lot. Im not a professional by any means however, the pictures i took with that lens came out great

Great video, especially with some sample shots. Thank you. I'm getting this lens this weekend on marketplace for 175$ USD - I'm pairing it with the same camera, but it comes with an LA-EA1 mount. I need to find EA3 for sure.

Was trying to sell off my SAL70300G Mk1 locally in UAE but no takers yet. (Someone took my A580 so no body with me). Your video encourages me to get a A7III or A7C and a LAEA adaptor and revive the little beast 70300G. Thanks a lot

Yes I've seen a mk1 for sale used and I think with my A9 it could focus and perform pretty well.

Literally the review I was looking for today. No joke. Even more your testing on the a7 with the LA-EA3 adapter. Been trying to determine if I want this or the 70-400. I'm pretty your your the single review of this lens on the Internet. I would of loved to see some more practical shots, like outdoor sports.

+Phiniox Glade Thanks for the comments and I agree I would have loved to take more action photos, but the A7II and LA-EA3 was not up to the challenge. The LA-EA4 would have allowed that though for sure! I was a bit limited due to the slower focus speed of the A7 II. Perhaps I will get this lens back when I review the A68 or new A99 II if it ever comes out ;) Thanks again! Jay

+Jay SonyAlphaLab I doubt there is any chance of a new A Mount A99. I have both the LA-EA3 and 4 so I'll choose best performance. I haven't yet used the LA-EA3 as I just purchased it from B&H for 99USD. Hopefully it won't suck too bad with the Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 as its the only A Mount lens I own with a SAM or SSM module.

+Phiniox Glade I don't think the on sensor PDAF system can utilize the SSM technology to it's fullest. At least with my testing using this lens. The LA-EA4 lens adapter certainly can however!! A99 replacement is coming for sure at some point I believe... The technology changes so fast is the issue I think and Sony just needs to commit to a design ;)

+shaolin95 Yes, it is noticeable better in speed and accuracy on the A7RII as tested with the Sigma A-Mount lenses recently...

Hii! 😊 I have a Sony a7c, for this lense should i get a LEA 4 or the latest LEA 5 adapter? I would appreciate your advice!!!
@Jason_Hermann Жыл бұрын
Hello Diana, The LA-EA5 is the latest and greatest, so I would recommend that. I would also recommend using native e-mount lenses over adapting A-Mount lenses if you are buying new, because the native E-mount lenses do work better overall. If you already have the lens, then it makes sense to adapt...

Hello and no it will not. You need to look for A-Mount lenses: www.sonyalphalab.com/guides/sony-lenses-a-mount-guide/

Would this setup be a good alternative to an e mount lens for my a6100?
@Jason_Hermann Жыл бұрын
I would not say a good alternative, but yes an alternative. This method in my opinion is if you already have older A-Mount lenses that you love and want to use. I would not buy an a-mount lens though and an adapter to use on an e-mount lenses as apposed to a e-mount lens. I have an awesome video on recommended lenses for the ZV-E10 that would be the same for the A6100 Here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXW6hoGeq5hjZrM if you want to check it out

Did you just loan the A7Rii to review? Do you still just own the A7R, and borrowing the A7ii? I have had my A7ii since October, and I can't really justified buying the A7Rii, or any of the high end lenses, as long as I don't earn money from photography, and can get the VAT back (in Norway it's 25%, and get does 25% back will make it considerable cheaper). Can you help me choose my next lens? I'm currently owning the FE 28mm f/2 and the FE 55mm F/1.8. Really like them both (might switch the 28mm with the Sigma 35 1.4 Art lens when the new Sigma adapter comes out). I feel the 28 is wide enough (might get the wide angle converter for some wide options), but I'm considering buying the Batis 85mm f/1.8 or the FE 70-200 f/4. Right now most of my photography is landscape (but I do enjoy street photography and travel photography when I have the oportunity). I also want to do more portrait work, and with my A6000 I used to use the Sigma 60mm for portrait, and I feel that the 85mm will do the same job. But at the sametime, it might not get that much used, and a 70-200 can get a more used as landscape lens, specially if I'm hiking up a mountain. Is the 85mm focal range to close to the 55mm? Is the change of view enough to justified it? I feel it would be perfect with an 35mm, while the 28 and 55mm works perfect together, I'm not sure the 55 and 85mm is necessary a good pair.

I would recommend the 16-35 over the convertors. As seen in Jay's review they have weak corners and lots of distortion. The 16-35 on any given day is my favourite or second favourite lens. The 70-200 f4 is good, not great or at least my copy. Colours are a little flat, min focus distance is too far, there are two min focus distances, not par focal, AF under 3 meter is just bad, little soft at 200mm @ f4. The good, AF tracking over distances greater than 3 meters, weather sealed, that 70 to 200 range is good for portrait, will focus in shithouse light but slowly, size, weight, hood, included bag, eye detect AF, AF lock, AF hold buttons. I would recommend the Minolta AF 70-210 F4 over the FE lens. I have both and I much prefer the images from the Beercan. Between the slightly longer reach, very short min focus distance, brilliant rendering, bokeh, colours, pleasant vignetting, I get wonderfully portraits straight out of camera, even the raw files are super punchy so I leave them unedited

Phiniox Glade I have only a plan to buy one lens for around $1200-1500, and I want it to be telephoto lens, as I not much interest in wide angle lens. I feel 28 is wide enough, and I don't see myself use much wider. I just want a cheap option in case I need it. I guess Samyang 14mm f/2.8 works, in that it's half of the 28mm. I heard a lot bad things about the 16-35mm. Specially Tony Northrup and Matt Granger doesn't like it, and didn't think it was sharp at all. Actually Northrup thought the new 24-70 GM was the first Sony zoom that was as sharp as the Canon equalient. I been very skeptic with Sony zooms (I do like the 18-105 for my A6000, but it's not really sharp). Sharpness doesn't matter that much as long as they are not expensive, but for $1350 it better be very sharp. Forget about the lenses, it's more about what is the right focal range for me. Is 85 enough step up from 55mm, or is it to similar. When testing with 18-105mm, 37mm (55) and 57 (85), seem to be too close together, and that I would need at least 100mm to get a good change of view. I know that Photorec Toby really loved using the 70-200 F/4 on his New Zeland trip. I was looking at the Canon 70-200 F/4, which is a lot cheaper, but with $400 for an adapter and no eye focus it seem to not be worth it. How good is the autofocus on the Beercan with the LA-E3 adapter? I'm not willing to use the LA-E4 adapter. Is 85mm to specialiced or is also useful in landscape and street photography?

+Olyphantastic That Vat tax sounds brutal! Yes, I still own the original A7r and got the A7rii as a loaner. Same with the A7ii and gear I have now. The 85mm Batis Lens would be great for portraits on the full frame camera in particular. I think the 55mm f/1.8 is also great for Portraits, but the 85mm is arguable better if you have the room and extra distance needed. The 70-200mm be a great option for you given the versatility I agree. Having both the 55 and 85mm? It would be nice, but with such a Tax.... Having the zoom lens makes life really easy, but the speed and amazing "look" of the primes is worth the extra effort if you can afford the money and time moving around instead of zooming etc.. Very hard decision for sure. Also, the 90mm Macro OSS G lens is also great for portraits and you would get a killer macro lens as a bonus...

Hopefully the new 70-300 coming out soon is going to require an adapter, which negatively effects the focusing.

Jay, try it on one of your A mounts. Did you ever review the A77II?
@Jason_Hermann8 жыл бұрын
Hi and I did not have an A-Mount camera on hand to try the lens with. I have no doubt it would work much better, but it was frustrating, because the Tamron A-mount 70-200mm lens worked incredible using the same LA-EA3 adapter. So, why was the focus so good and accurate on the Tarmron A-Mount lens, but not as good using the Sony A-Mount lens? This was the issue I was most concerned with. Great points though and no I did not review the A77II unfortunately.

I would LOVE to see you review the A77II. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the A77 in nearly every category and I'd bet the updated SSM of this lens would be perfect for high speed shooting.Thanks for the video!
