Just picked this lens up for my A7iii and Minolta Maxxum 9. Works like a charm, though I was taking pictures of a particular speaker at an event. It actually works fairly well as a portrait lens. Sharpness is good wide open, and f5.6 is enough to give appropriate subject separation.

It was my favourite telephoto zoom until I replaced it with the 100-400 G Master.

I'm looking to upgrade to a Sony a6300 soon, would the la-ea4 or even the cheaper ea3 give me image stabilization with this lens? Thanks.
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
The adapters don’t add stabilisation - the lens needs to have stabilisation. The LA-EA3 cannot retain AF of the older screw drive A-Mount lenses.

Hi how's the autofocusing? I was thinking of getting this to do some sports like surfing.
@AlphaCreativeSkills9 жыл бұрын
+waipahutube Used in conjunction with an A7II with the firmware update or the A7RII you will access the fast phase detection AF but you cannot use the Focus Tracking.
@AlphaCreativeSkills8 жыл бұрын
+waipahutube LA-EA4 will give you phase detect AF - but no quite as fast as the native AF of the A6000. Unless the movement is coming directly towards the lens at close range it should cope well with surfing.

And what about this lens mounted on a Sony A77II? I have seen this lens doing AF pretty slow with A99 and A700.

I just bought the 70-400 G2 with LA-EA3 and it produces a clicking sound produced by the internal motor (diafragma) while focusing when shutter halfway. Is this clicking normal? Did you hear this during your test?
@AlphaCreativeSkills8 жыл бұрын
I don't have any clicking sounds on my lens

What about the 70 400 GI? should I get the LA-EA3 instead of the LA-EA4 adapter if I am using an Alpha 7II?
@raihanprimastaputrac81715 жыл бұрын
it seems same as the mark 2, just take the LA-EA3, because the mark 1 lens doesn't use mechanical screw AF

Mark, how does this lens compare against the 100-400mm FE on an A7RIII?

How is it with Sony a9
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
This is an A-Mount lens so you would have to use it with the LA-EA3 adapter. It’s a sharp fast focusing lens but the 100-400 GM would be faster.

What settings do you recommend for this lens with the a99? I'm an aviation photographer and use this equipment and sometimes struggle to get pin sharp shots.
@AlphaCreativeSkills5 жыл бұрын
I would check out my 'action settings' movie for Sony Alpha cameras.

SO LA-EA3 actually allows A Mount lenses to focus using A7R2's new focusing system? sounds awesome indeed. Too bad I own those old screw-mount lenses for which i have to stick to LA-EA4 that has a slower autofocus if i understand it correctly.
@kingghidorah81062 ай бұрын
LA-EA4 is fast with screwdriver lenses but you need Sony lenses, not Minolta, because anything that is not Sony won't give you phase detection autofocus

Hi. How will the sony 70-400 f/4-5.6 G SSM II work on a sony a7s ii? And if so wich adapter will you recomend to get it working smooth? -Jacob
@AlphaCreativeSkills8 жыл бұрын
The A7SII doesn't have any Phase Detect AF points so the LA-EA4 adapter is recommended. The LA-EA4 has Phase Detect AF points built into the adapter.

So u Think a7s ii will do a good job with this setup? Im Seaching for a long zoom lens for my Sony a7s ii(+300mm+400mm). What will you recomend?
@AlphaCreativeSkills8 жыл бұрын
The FE70-300 is a native telephoto zoom but if you need Phase-Detection go for the SAL70-400 and LA-EA4 adapter

Is the auto focus fast enough to shoot sports (like surfing) with the Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM II lens on a Sony A7S (with a LA-EA4 adapter)? Also would this set up have image stabilization or not?
@AlphaCreativeSkills9 жыл бұрын
+Rupert Hill - You will be using the Phase Detection capability of the LA-EA adapter which is quick (about A68 quick) but not up to very fast moving sports. You will not have image stabilisation unless you are using a Mark II A7 series camera.

Hi guys , how would the 70-400 fair on the a6000 body and what adaptor would I need . Thanks chris
@AlphaCreativeSkills8 жыл бұрын
The LA-EA4 adapter is recommended for A6000 owners. You will not, however, be using the AF speed or coverage of the AF system of the A6000 sensor.
@AgnostosGnostos9 жыл бұрын
Sony 70-400 on a Sony a7 or a Sony NEX with LA-EA3 will have contrast autofocus or hybrid autofocus but not the fast phase detection of the LA-EA4. In general LA-EA3 should be avoided because it doesn't even support old a-mount lenses which don't internal autofocus motor. LA-EA4 supports all a-mount autofocus lenses but is bulkier, heavier and more expensive than LA-EA3 adapter.
@AlphaCreativeSkills8 жыл бұрын
+Achilleas Labou The A6300 and A7II and A7RII will retain their phase detect AF with the LA-EA3. Only the older A7 and NEX cameras will be reduced to the accurate but slow Contrast Detect AF. In these instances choose the LA-EA4 adapter.
