I got a lot of flack for saying that when they raised the price of the PS5 in Japan that the pro wouldn't be $500 at release. I also got a lot of flack when I said that I thought the PS5 pro would be an all digital system. And guess what, it ended up being $700 (more depending on where you live based on conversion rates) and also ended up being all digital (with the option to purchase a detachable disc drive which will cost an additional $100).

I have worked in the gaming industry in the early 2000s for Ubisoft on the original far cry games. I’ve built up quite a massive library of games over the years all digital now. After spending 10 years with PS4 knowing that the PS5 was going to have issues, I went back to Xbox and I’m now sitting on 1200 games across two accounts. I’ve got no desire for the PlayStation five pro. And there’s no point because we’re about to move to the next generation so this thing is really just a moneymaking thing. and even if you buy this, what are you going to play on it last? General games remakes remasters really? Considering most people are struggling just to feed themselves nobody is gonna buy this thing. Plus the human eye doesn’t see in 4K so you’re gonna need a reasonably good TV or monitor to benefit. Would be interesting to see somebody do a tear down video.

The human eye can see far beyond 4K but it all depends on pixel density so distance and size of the monitor or tv will be key to make out these individual pixels. On a steam deck or rog ally for example you can go for 1080p or even sub 1080p and still have a clear image because pixel density is a lot higher but if you have a cinema projector sized 4k TV in front of you most people will be able to make out individual pixels due to the pixels being stretched apart from each other which leads to lower density.. that alone shows that your eyes can make out more than 4k but it all depends on context and circumstances.

I’m in a locale that has 10.25% sales tax. A $700 console + (maybe) $80 drive + (maybe) $30 stand puts that at $810 subtotal. People gave Xbox Flack for having having the *Xbox series X special edition* being *$600.00,* well with the PS5 Pro being *$700.00* includes the cost of the additional disk drive which is going to be *$80* and the additional cost of the stand that is not sold with the *PS5 Pro* obviously, So we're looking at over *$800-£800-€900* in the *United States, United Kingdom, European Union.* this could actually help boost Xbox console sales in the long run but at the same time also boost console sales for the PlayStation 5 Slim, that's just my prediction that people will be looking for a cheaper alternative to the PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox series X special edition, we'll just have to see. If you already play at 60fps then, I think your tv size and playing distance is going to be the differentiator here. I play on a large tv and a lot of games have heavily relied techniques that result in blurry/messy visuals. On a large display these are even more noticeable.

I strongly feel Sony Should change their strategy for their PS pro models, instead of doing a mid-gen refresh with the pro model they should launch the pro side by side with their standard console same as the cell phone manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung and others do. Ill explain why, you see having the pro option with standard option at the beginning of the next gen cycle makes way more sense. Majority of gamers have already bought the new console within the first 3-4 year of console launch (PS5) so they will not upgrade for a much more expensive ps5 pro when they know ps6 will launch within 3-4 years after the launch of Ps5 pro. last gen ps 4 pro sales only accumulated for 15%-20% sales of total Ps4 generation because when ps 4 pro launched it did with a price of ps4 standard version and ps4 standard version was selling for a lower price, so people bought the ps4 over the ps4 pro. Only the enthusiast of the enthusiast gamers and KZbinrs will go for the ps 5 pro. Having the pro model as an option at launch with the standard model will give the casual gamers the option to shell out the extra $$$ when they know they will be good for 7-8 years till the current generation last. Sony will definitely see a boost in sales for their pro console. If i had the pro option at launch of the current generation i would have gone for ps 5 pro instead of standard ps 5. But now ill stick with my ps5 and will not upgrade, even if the ps 5 pro launched at $500 or $600 with the disc option i still would not have upgraded. Anyways this is my point of view.

Just the disc drive will put it over $1000. If Sony actually was trying to add value, they’d include the stand.. at least. Who IS the audience then? The reason why developers prioritize graphics over performance is to sell you the game. Graphics show better for trailer and screen shots. Performance is something you feel while playing the game. But by then you already bought it right? Imagine if we had regulation that required developers to make a demo of at least 20 mins of gameplay from the actual finished game? All this bs would stop overnight. No more broken game on release. No more games with 0 content and full cash shops. No more pretty trailers but horrible optimizations. Graphics are diminishing return but people complain about graphics each time. Every time a game comes out “This game looks trash” “Where are the next gen games?” “No game has blown me away” This is why developers prioritize graphics. People love to cry these days. What developers need is a social media analytics to understand the fanbase and to filter out the bad criticism. Because not everyone that complains is wrong but a lot of people cry and developers need to learn what’s genuine and to tell the fans to deal with certain things. If y’all want 60fps fine stop crying about graphics

I play at max settings on all my games at ultrawide with Raytraceing, my monitor can hit 240 fps and im always way over 100 hitting 2 on most modern games, even higher with DLSS 3 and frame generation, if this thing is for enthusiasts its not touching people like myself.

This is why, as gamers, not console fanboys, we need to support microsoft to keep Sony in check. I play on both series x ps5. I like both consoles, but Sony is just out of control now with their price hikes. Ps5 controllers are now more expensive. The ps5 pro is pratically over 800 dollars if you want the disc drive. Then the stand itself is sold seperatly for 30 dollars for a piece of plastic.

As of now Xbox is still my preferred console even if all of their games to to the Playstation. Just know that the PS6 will either be the same or more expensive than the PS5 Pro. Also, the difference between the PS5 Pro and PS6 will be even smaller. It took devs half of this gen to move on to the current gen consoles. Devs are going to support the current gen consoles, and this PS5 Pro for even longer. It's going to take a longer time to see a big visual difference in games. The main improvement will be mostly in framerate and resolution. AI will help with procedural generation.

What's the exact GPU is in the ps5 pro? If it's the rx7800xt ($470 GPU) then the price makes sense. If it's less than that, like a rx7700xt ($390 GPU), than the value proposition is debatable.

i'm fairly confident it's around 7700xt but it's also likely that rt performance will be more like the upcoming RDNA4 GPUs. Also no CPU upgrade will probably make this upgrade quite inconsistent especially with games like Dragon's Dogma 2, FF16, Starfield, Space Marine 2 and so on showing strong signs that these Zen2 Console CPUs are hitting their limits and even in strong builds on PC with newer hardware we are seeing some games struggling to hit 60fps consistently due to CPU bottlenecks. This GPU upgrade will help in terms of performance in a lot of games but no upscaling or GPU performances upgrades can help when the CPU is bottlenecked.. But frame gen on the other hand could help but that would be 30fps frame gen to 60 which is usually not a good idea and is not even available on consoles.. Yeah i dunno this seems like a mess and a very unreliable upgrade to me.
