I’m sorry, Sean didn’t “pave the way” for Gavin Harrison. Gavin started playing professionally in 1979 and was already touring with Iggy Pop back in 1986. Then Lisa Stansfield, then Level 42 and so on. I first heard his playing in 1987 when he was in a group called Dizrhythmia with Jakko Jakszyk, Danny Thompson & Richard Barbieri, if memory serves. Gavin was eight years older than Sean, so again, it’s not accurate that Sean “paved the way” for him. If anything, it was likely the other way around. Gavin’s stylistic influences were Jeff Porcaro, Bill Bruford, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gary Husband, Steve Gadd and Steve Jansen. Sean was a tremendous and innovative player. A great guy, and a great musician in general. His accurate credits and Cynic’s influence are impressive enough on their own. So let’s be accurate about both Sean and Gavin.

The thing with Sean reinart is he influenced a ton of people with his playing in death and more so in cynic back In the 90s. I don’t think we’d have as much fusion/jazz influenced drumming in metal if it weren’t for him and cynic

Sean Reinert is a very important drummer in metal history. He was the first to incorporate (as a predominant ingredient) "jazzy" textures and patterns in extreme metal. That was on Death's "Human" album back in 1991 and he realy, really changed the game and set a new standard in extreme metal drumming, and of course, Chuck Schuldiner and the band (Steve Di Diorgio on bass in particular) opened a new spectrum in death metal with that album. If you are curious about this (you definitely should listen to this masterpiece!!) go for the remixed/remastered 2011 edition. Jim Morris (who would later record and mix Death's 1995's Symbolic and 1998's Sound of Perseverance albums) did an incredible work, and thanks to his talents you can now hear all the little details in Sean's playing, the most impressive addion definitely being the cymbals/hats work and patterns. All these persons I just named are music heroes, as is every musician who played on Chuck's albums!

Sean did play on the Death album "Human" (which is an excellent extreme metal album) but he's probably best known as the drummer for Cynic (which are the band that recorded the song in this video). The first Cynic album was revolutionary and people were not ready for it when it came out in 1993. However, it slowly gained traction and 15 years later the band reunited to record a follow-up.
