these videos are a godsend. I can't seem to buzz on a mouthpiece but can freebuzz? It's so confusing! But I can buzz on the leadpipe.

I can never see the point of free buzzing. It bears NO relation to what happens on the horn, so why do it? M/P buzzing, fine, same for leadpipe. I've noticed Hugh Masekela can't do it, and he's no slouch.

My first band director told us to never, ever buzz into just our mouthpieces as it would ruin our embouchure. I know now he just didn't want to hear 10 trumpet players constantly buzzing. But now when I do it feels a bit naughty :-)
