The slowing down and speeding up is what I like about Hedges' performance...it's what you get to do when you're playing all the parts yourself. You've done an outstanding job capturing the brilliance of his song. Love it and go on and make it your own from here!

look at that 11 years ago i commented! nice! I still feel the same, was just gonna say, michael hedges was so good. hope people realize that. guy was a master, song has so much to it and its difficulty level has to be at the highest level.

You played that stunningly well - best version I have ever hear (besides the original of course). I have listened to Hedges for over 20 years and you definitely did him proud. Regarding you comments, I believe he was a better composer than a guitar player (if that is even possible). His songs would be just as beautiful on any other instrument. Will history remember him that way? Time will tell.

Ironically, with the exception of my improvised cadenza at the end, and a rhythmic change of the hits in the first "chorus" (that michael himself played!!!), I *AM* playing it note for note. String stopping, and all. Unfortunately the production isn't with a $2500 microphone like it is on some other videos so you hear a highly compressed (and poorly amplified) performance... but I'll post one more legit if I ever decide it matters LOL

hey man, i rarely comment on videos but that was fantastic, easily one of the best hedges covers on here. i've been playing for about 8 years and i completely agree; this is one of the most subtly challenging and nuanced songs i've ever attempted to play. your version helped me out a lot with some key sections that i was having trouble with. thanks a lot, keep the vids coming, and long live Michael Hedges.
@marcusdolby116 жыл бұрын
Wow. I have been a Hedges fan since 87 and this is a fantastic cover. I also play and make my living as an audio engineer. Dynamics were OUTSTANDING and control over tempo was solid. Compression always helps with such a wide dynamic style such as Hedges. Andrew you Rock!! I watch this often.

Man i have watched this countless times, and commented before but i have to again. I find myself sitting still until about 2 mins in then i cannot stop myself from head banging like a moron. I start shaking back and forth and forward and backward and the music is just in tune with the movement. I mean holy shit man i would love to play with you, i have been playin for almost 3 years now. I have also watched your other vids as well, you rock man, do not let that go to your head though

Ok so MAYBE a few things LOL but jesus dude isn't it a feat that anyone can play this tune? I feel special when I play it and each time it gets better. The guy was a FREAKIN genius. I have to agree with RegTedSan -- best non-Hedges-himself version I've ever heard. I was fortunate enough to have seen Michael in concert 3 times: 1987, at the "old" Iron Horse," about a year later at Smith College, where he appeared with Leo Kottke -- at the end they did "Pinball Wizard" as a duet, and brought the house down; and art some strange church group meeting house. Absolutely mesmerizing, I still can't believe he's gone...

YEAH!!! I just noticed that when I was doing a Byzantine chant gig down in Sacramento!!! We watched a lot of Bones and it was the one where nerdy dude gets accused of murder, but it's actually this other dude who's quick with the knife... then they get him and this song plays. SO badass
@TransAmFormulaV815 жыл бұрын
Dude i have commented before, but every damn time i listen to this i find myself head banging uncontrollably. Anyone that thinks this guy isn't amazing is probably just cynical. This is as good as Michael hedges, and personally i think this recreation is better. Dont bite my head off, just my opinion. And anyone else that says this guy has no emotion, are you serious, look at his face, he is smiling throughout most of it from sheer enjoyment. Plus he is movin with the music. Andrew keep rockin!

Haha exactly! A tuning should never define the key of a piece. I have a tune that uses drop D which is in F# minor !! Yeah exactly, though. All we have is notes, an the combination of these notes is really new and really inspires people. We won't ever be able to ask Mike "what are YOU hearing when you play this, theoretically" and it's tough to judge from his phrasing, but we CAN say this is an unprecedented guitar music that we have been blessed to enjoy for many generations :)

@jazzpsalti, thanks 4 the comment!! I've loved Michael's playing since the first time I heard it back in the late 80's & I've heard SO MANY people try to play this, but BY FAR....yours is the most impressive. Your right he slows down on the original recording but the average person, such as myself, misses it. Either way, your playing is superb!!
