Is RESINCRETE a good alternative to RESIN?
In today's video I am trying out JDiction RESINCRETE. Resincrete is being sold as a resin alternative and in many cases I do see it as a great alternative. This craft was really fun and I highly recommend it if you're interested in doing something like resin but not resin.
*When working with resins make sure you are working in a well ventilated room and be wearing the right PPE. Resin is a chemical and can make you sick if you don't take the right precautions.*

I can def say plaster of paris takes a long time to cure and if you mess with it before it cures, it breaks super easily and not so easy to just glue back together. I use it to make small items for fake bakes, like tiny, but easy shape toppings (little candies, etc) and I was thinking maybe this would be a good alt to Plastr od Prs but maybe not if its expensive. Im starting to think the UV resin might be a better alternative and I have a UV light for nails already, lol! And with the UV stuff, it comes mixed. Im just not sure if its molds/demolds bc I havent really looked it up. I have resin that I bought to try, but Ive been so hesitant bc I see so many people talk about how they have problems or dont like using resin =/

Ummmmm just my 3¢.... BUT ... Not the first to mention this , but it definitely looks like is plaster!!.... As it has a large amount of plaster to water ratio and ounce mixed the working time is minimal!!... So if it has a higher upcharge and the product is just being renamed ... Just go get plaster I guarantee its way way cheaper!!

So, I’ve used this and the dry and wet stick together very well. However, even if you think you’ve got the color exactly the same, you’re still going to see a bit of a line where the two meet. This won’t be replacing my regular resin anytime soon, but it definitely has its place. It’s a great way to quickly see if you’re homemade molds are any good and for making prototypes.

I have been working with ResinCrete off and on for about 2 months now. I don’t measure it - just eyeballing the consistency. Depending on how intricate my mold is, the more water I use. The runnier it is the easier it picks up any design in the mold. Also, I wait at least one hour before I demold. This is especially important if you have some delicate molds. Another tip - I never sand these pieces. If necessary, I use my deburring tool and smooth it out with a sponge under running water. It works like a charm.

I’ve used Resincrete quite a bit. It’s very breakable. I only use it when I can top it with resin. I’ve used it to make phone grips, key chains etc. and covered it with uv resin. I don’t have the wax but from my experience, I would wait 24 before waxing it unless the directions say otherwise. It’s very smooth. I love the finish. I just wish it was stronger. I dropped a trinket that was about 3/4” thick and it broke in two (no air bubbles). And it was dropped on laminant flooring. I can’t imagine how it would do on ceramic lol Just an fyi, you can paint it after the fact. I haven’t found a pigment that works as I want it to. Jesmonite is much much better in strength than Resincrete but it is a bit harder to work with because it’s thick and cures really fast. Isn’t it strange how if feels really cold once it’s out of the mold? It goes to room temperature after a day of sitting. I’m thinking it the water that evaporates.

I’ve been using Resincrete for awhile and I really like it. I’ve tried 3 different kinds and I prefer it over the other two eco-pours. I’ve mad all kinds of things. It should not be demolded too quickly for deeper pours and leave the delicate things like the strawberry topper in for a little longer. Also you shouldn’t wax or paint till the next day to give it plenty of time to cure completely. I also use wax on some things but other things that I paint or tattoo no wax of course and also use a spray varnish on a lot of my pieces. Good luck. Ps I use it more than resin because I live in a house without an extra room so the Resin Crete is safer for me and my dog.

My guess about the colour being more intense at the top of the mold than the bottom could have been related to the dye that you're using. If you're using something alcohol or oil based it's going to have a lower density than the water it's dissolved in and will migrate to the top of the solution over time as the emulsion breaks down.

I agree that this looks like plaster of Paris, specifically, I think it is ultra cal.

Try Perfect Cast 5x harder than plaster. I think it's a lot lot lot like resincrete. Could you do a comparison of the two. The Perfect Cast is a lot cheaper and comes in a bigger bag also. I pay $9.99 for a 4lb bag.

I recently bought white concrete and mixed it with resin and it did leave a few air bubbles. I made a medium size planter container with a coaster for it to sit on. I colored it with some mica powder and the planter turned out beautiful with a velvety finish. I used the exact same mixture for the coaster but this time it left a very shiny finish. Both came out beautiful.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! I have had an unopened bag of Resincrete for a few months now, just waiting for inspiration on just what project I wanna use it on. I guess my biggest concern with the product is that there isn't really all that much in a bag and the water really dissolves it from what I can tell. That brings me to a question. Having dissolved 108g of water into 360g powder about how much volume of resincrete mixture did this produce, could you guess?? I am kinda guessing not much more than 200ml?? Its a lot of product dissolved into a little bit of water. Maybe I shouldn't be internally comparing it to Plaster Of Paris where I have a great big ole bag/sack of that stuff to work with :p If you've read this far thanks for taking the time! I've really been enjoying your channel! Not many straight white males my age into this kinda stuff so I don't have many people to learn from or talk to on the issue but this resin hobby could be appealing to many personality types it all depends on what you wanna create!! :D

yeah, this looks more like a maybe stronger plaster, rather than a resin alternative, which while im not surprised, but still kinda disapointed. been wanting to start experimenting with resin crafts, but it's quite expensive, which has been making me hesitant to start

Looks like it is just Ultracal (high strength plaster) used in dental labs and sfx makeup production.

*{Slightly off topic question;}* I’m new to the world of resin, so this might be a really common thing to do… but has anyone mixed some plaster of Paris powder into their resin? This video made me curious if it would give you the strength of regular resin, but would have a “softer” feel/texture to it…? 🤔

I was wondering that, too...sort of, anyway. I was wondering if anyone's mixed cement and resin together. I thought that's what "ResinCrete" was implying: that it's a mix of resin and concrete. But judging from the other comments, it seems like ResinCrete is just hyped up plaster of Paris.

I know you were wearing a mask, but is the toxicity the same as regular resin? And is this similar to plaster of paris? OH, and I wonder if you could use it WITH regular resin.

Looks like Stewalin/Xyrarock tbh. Which is about a third to a fifth of the price if I am correctly remembering it.

That looks like just Plaster of Paris. I bet the company is just using Plaster of Paris and calling it Resincrete to make more money since Plaster of Paris is cheap.

It looks very fine, so it may be an extra finely ground gypsum powder such as used for dental castings.

This looks like it could also make some pretty cool plant pots, just by the way it kind of breaks, takes wax, and stuff? Although, I'm not entirely sure 😂

According to the Q&A section on their Amazon listing this product is basically like gypsum. Q: Is this resin or jesmonite? A: ResinCrete are the compounds of a variety of calcium-containing inorganic, which has been deeply processed and refined the essence. Its physical properties are similar to gypsum, but it is better and durable, strong, ideal for handmade creations. JDiction Tech SELLER · 5 months ago

@alidahart143, it's possible that it is especially finely ground gypsum or gypsum-adjacent mineral.

Yah would love to see a strength test. Even a simple side by side comparison with resin, Plaster of Paris etc drop test :) Given how porous I've heard this to be I'm so curious if a person could soak resin into this and make it super tough. Vacuum chamber infused perhaps?
