the material on the back is for non-slip. so it doesn't slide around in your boat :) the main benefit of usb c, is that is non-directional. sounds like the 4 produces a fuller sound.

I have a clip 3. My thoughts: The silicone pad ( not plastic ) on the rear ensures the speaker never vibrates of any surface. I'm not even sure a magnet would be viable, considering the speaker coil etc. The silicone pad rocks. Rock climbers trust their lives to carabiners, just because Walmart sells cheap crappy ones does not relate to JBL. Mine is 4 years old and has daily use, it is still working like the day I bought it. The clip fits more day to day things with the exception of belts and backpack shoulder straps, than the Clip 4. It is smaller and produces essentially the same sound. It doesn't have a giant cheap, tacky logo over the entire front. You didn't mention the price difference for some reason, that would have been interesting. Overall I felt your review was shallow and lacking in realtime use and experience with the products.

Clip 3 speaker are loud than the clip 4 and another thing I didn’t like from clip 4 is the power button is so sensitive and that is a problem because it turned on with the minimum contact

Got this for $30 shipped , i dont know what everyone is talking about, this speaker is weak, i cant believe JBL put this out i have heard better no name brands for less. I had this turned all the way up and couldn't believe how low the volume was (indoors) and it runs$60 bucks now...what a joke

Mf it is a jbl clip, not a flip, not a charge, not a party box. But a fuckin clip. Yu want a small speaker good sounds then go Ultimate ears. But dont go question why quality is not up to pare for yu when yu should already deduce the type of speaker it is.
