Yes! Get out those quilt tops! They will be MUCH happier bought to Life with some stitching, either beautiful, wavy, straight, wonky, skipped or perfect....it doesn't matter ~ all that matters is they get FINISHED.....and then loved! :)

Great job Jen. I think you made the right decision with the backing to be the same as your fussy cuts. Also, dont worry about any wobbles, even an occasional pucker. When you wash that baby and it gets all crinkly (my favorite part) you won't see any of that. Have fun!

Hi Jean and Jen great job,she’s lucky to have you Jean. Love the backing Jen. Jean it’s funny but yes I can hear the hippie in you lol.Would it be easier or not with the walking foot? I’m never sure because I think the walking foot takes longer thanks ladies for sharing your journey with us.

Thank you! I'm lucky to have my Jen! I have never used a walking foot but MANY quilters swear by them. I think, by seeing how they work, that I would think I can be quicker without it. Just my opinion. But like I say, others love them. Have to figure it out what is comfortable for you! Thanks for following along! ;)

Our home! Quirky, unusual, definitely over the top, cluttered, busy, warm, cozy, bordering~on~hoarder~but~without~the~dead~cats, and our haven from the storm! We raised our 10 kids here....Not to most peoples taste, but it is OURS!! LOL! Maybe I will make a video....and the minimalists out there will start twitching!! LOL!

Do you like doing free motion on your Juki? I normally use my singer treadle for free motion quilting but it is not doing right and I don't know why. I had to switch to my singer 4411. I don't like doing free motion quilting on it because of the space. I am thinking about the juki or the brother 1500 SL.

So why wouldn’t you use a walking foot with pin basting when the design is straight line?
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
Most quilters DO use a walking foot....I choose not to. I have made hundreds of quilts without using one and am comfortable with that. But by all means, if it makes a quilters life easier, I say USE one! :)

I am confused, you always said start in the middle. Then lower stitch to 0 and then 2 1/2. Which one. Jen is doing a great job, I am glad you are showing this to us. So when doing more 2 inches apart, do you use the painters tape for that?
@SB-kg2is6 жыл бұрын
Donna Richey, you set your stitch length to 0 for free motion quilting but if you are quilting lines or doing stitch in the ditch you would set it to 2 1/2 I hope this helps.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sandra! Yes, that is what I was saying "0" for FMQ and about 2.5 for quilting (either straight stitch/ in the ditch). It depends on each individual quilt, where to begin quilting. On lots of FMQ I start in the middle and work/smooth my way out, but this application for our sampler quilt, the diagonal is going from edge to edge. Each quilt is a bit different.
@hbhooooihbbgvv6 жыл бұрын
For free motion most would start in the centre mainly as at that point you would have the largest bulk of fabric in the throat space, so it's kind of like getting the most awkward area done first. Because as you move out in any direction you would have less and less fabric in the machine area, making it easier to quilt. Secondly I would think if you discovered a ripple in the backing you could tug the edge and get rid of it, but not so if you were working from an edge into the centre.

I would just add more borders 😁

Hello there! I just found your quilting videos and I must say that you will be keeping me company as I quilt this summer. I am giving you the link to a post on my blog about how I made my sewing table bigger so that I can quilt bigger quilts. It might be a good idea for Jen. It might be something for beginners. When I am not using it, I just store it in the basement, however, once I have it out it still is useful in my sewing room: pegsplace.wordpress.com/2018/01/27/a-little-craftiness-for-machine-quilting/
