I honestly think that overpaying for an hommage watch just because it is "swiss made" does not make any sense. Yes, 2824 is a great movement, but so is any modern movement to be honest. And, you can buy Glycine Combat Sub for under $400 - Swiss made, well built watch with 2824 :)
@funkmon4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. There are even very good Swiss homages for half the price, even less. Mathey-Tissot iirc does one you can buy for like $400 with a Swiss high beat movement. But, again, you can get a legit Swiss diver that you don't have to explain for that price as well. Didn't we just see a Seastar recently?

@@FouseQuentin Steinhart is not even close to the quality of finishing on a Davosa. Period. I get it, for an homage watch it's kind of expensive. BUT: the quality is rarely seen in any other watch around the price. I have a Davosa "Batman" for around 1300 Euros, a Longines, Seiko in the same price range and an Omega of around 3x the price. There is no tangible difference in the quality between the Davosa and the Seamaster. It definitely is a watch looking and feeling a lot more luxurious then 1300 Euro. I don't care about lume at all, so no biggie for me.

If they would use the puzzle piece type logo placed at the 12 like on some of their other designs, Ward would be killing. But few people like the unbalanced dial on the new models. Even the old "Chr Ward" some people don't like for the "wearing some guys name on your wrist" issues that Jody has spoken about. "Chr" is better than the full "Christopher" as it becomes less of a name and more brand, like "Tag Heuer". In my mind, the next best at a similar price and similarly styled is the Oris Aquis.

I just acquired the black version with date. Less than -3 accuracy and the case is better finished that what you get from Squale. The engraving and the paint on the ceramic bezel are better than my 1545 Squale also. I got mine with the pentalink bracelet. The clasp and screw pin quality are what you'd expect for $500 to $800 but the links themselves have amazing finishing (better than the case actually). The Davosa is my new favorite everyday watch. It has the quality you'd expect from a watch just under a grand. I recommend Davosa. I got a very solid watch from them.

I have the Davosa Black and White special edition and am very happy with it. It's more of an homage to the Explorer II and has a GMT complication. I also have an Oceaneva Dep Marine Explorer 1250m with a quartz movement. As I work on cars almost daily, I take my watch off for long stretches which means the automatic movement sometimes doesn't wound enough. So I use the Oceaneva for a daily beater that I can take off for long stretches and is still accurate. I wear the Black and White when I'm going to wear it all day. Both are good but I prefer the Davosa.

It's a classic for sure. Davosa tend to make solid tool watches. Solid movement, solid design just a little expensive. With so many other similar optioned homages available, it doesn't feel special enough to justify the price. It almost feels like they built to a price. Limited edition (numbered) check. Swiss made, nod to American market place, check Elements latest greatest yet historic dive watch, check. Just over that $1000.00, ( special watch threshold) granted typically first time around, check. So it does check all the boxes, for a precise buyer. Still a solid watch just expensive.

All in all, this seems like a well-executed piece. One little bone of contention (or niggle) for me is some of the wording on the caseback... I think "Swiss Automatic Movement" (or any watch that also says "Swiss Movement" for that matter) generally means a watch that is assembled outside of Switzerland, specifically a Chinese made watch. It's a loophole for a company to get the word "Swiss" on a watch and can be misleading to someone who doesn't understand the differences between the labeling. My preference would have been for the wording to be "Swiss Made Automatic". For any watch to be labeled "Swiss Made", it MUST have a Swiss movement in it to begin with. I know it's a minor point but for me, it's a surprising miss for an established brand. Great review as always, thanks!

For that price, I'd rather get an Oris Aquis or a TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5. One more thing; that watch is no better than my Invicta Pro Diver with the Sellita SW200 movement which I bought for about $225.

Do you know how an Aussie would buy a Ternos or is it just for the Yankees. I can’t find any Aussie sellers.

Jody, I'm surprised you didn't mention Stallone's Richard Mille RM 032 from Expendables 3. Never mind. I just found out I don't have $170,000 lying around.

nice to see a jubilee for once on a microbrand

It's $1200 because its limited edition... I think there should be more Asian 2824 clones in microbrands; I've built about a dozen watches with clones and they are super accurate +/- 2-3 seconds! Ginault uses a clone *cough modified Asian clone in their early models, but again those prices🧐 Great video Jody, and well put. Ps how about some maple syrup for that 'waffle'?

I have the black dial and bezel version. It runs great. Got it on sale last year. I like the sub, but not enough to buy a real one. Too ubiquitous for me. This scratched the itch for me.
