Great video series! I can’t figure out how you’ve got a few thumbs down?! There must be some NASCAR engine builders watching your series unable to move along without hitting the thumbs down! I don’t know. I’m in the process of rebuilding a 4.0L in my garage at home. As I was installing my camshaft, mine fit really snug on the last bearing. During my visual inspection, all of the bearings looked excellent. Straight on the install, no galls or scratches. It gave me peace of mind that I’m not the only one it has happened to. It feels smooth on the turning with no binding. The machinist who set my bearings and did the machine work for me has been doing this work before his hair turned gray. I trust that it’s going to be okay. Thanks for the awesome series! Great job!

I am in the same position myself rebuilding my 4.0 in my garage, did yours end up working just fine? My cam is a little tight once in the last bearing but bearing tolerance are different in each so could be any bearing but all my tolerance checks were good

Thank you for telling me I had to tap the cam shaft, I thought it didn't look right in the beginning and after trying to install the thrust plate I knew it couldn't be right. I really didn't want to mess things up but also didn't want to call the machine shop and be that girl who said she was going to do it herself but has no idea what she is doing lol

Great installation video Dale . That camshaft seems a little tight turning to me , I have never had a camshaft turn that tight with new bearings . They usually spin pretty free . Just makes me nervous . Take care !!
@JeepSolid5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, made me nervous. Called engine building expert and told him I couldn't turn it by hand. He said it's ok if it turns with wrench. It is smooth, which is reassuring.

Great video! My daughter has a 89 jeep wrangler and it has a ticking noise. Put new rocker arms pushrods and lifters and still ticking. What do u think it might be. I am thinking cam bearings but not 100% its a 2.5 4cyl

Why is there no videos on this. If i wanna install one in the jeep. All i have to do is pull the lifters out with a magnet, and then the cam can slide out??

Wow, looked to me to be too tight! It seems like that last bearing might be a tiny bit crooked; it was fine until that point. I have never had to hammer in a cam like that. Hope it works out for you.
@JeepSolid5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it had me worried too. I called my machinist and talked to him about it. He said it should be fine. Some fit tight. Well see..

I've been following the build but I must say I'm horribly saddened that we didn't change the cam bearings. You can go rent the tool easily, there's no other videos on 4.0 cam bearing replacement. It's needed
@JeepSolid3 жыл бұрын
Nowhere I know of that rents them. At least not where I live.

@@facts_all_the_time ya it has a freeze plug in its place

The "literal end of the camshaft journalled tunnel" through the block finshes itself OFF with a freeze plug BEYOND the cam bearings in the bellhousing section

do you have any specs on the cam or is it just a stock oem style cam?

Engine tech is absolute junk. Just replaced my head gasket and decided it would be wise to replace the old original head bolts. They stretched and stretched upon torquing to 110ftlbs, one of them snapped. Reused my 30 year old head bolts and they torqued right up without issues. It is getting harder and harder for any mechanic to make money or guarantee our work when the parts we use are self destructing, cheap crap
