Great job for AEV to put their build to the test. They are not afraid to show their products can hold up to the challenge. I get sick and tired of seeing tests done on rocks and dirt roads. This was great to actually see a JEEP in a very hard course. Great job AEV. MOST vehicles would have had problems in these situations. Nice to see a company that USES its Offroad components!

To get through the Tommy's Demise hard part, you'd have to go at it on an angle which might feel terrible but I think its the only way to get the breakover to work and keep at least one front tire on solid earth.

45* approach angle is better than just about any other semi-modified vehicle. With that obstacle I’d say adding some sort of angled approach is the only way. The back end is just too high to allow for a good approach angle. The other thing I do in those situations is pre-rig recovery solutions like winch, traction boards and possibly road building. If you’re into vehicle preservation… good stuff gents.

I tried. there wasn't too much room to work with to get a good angle like I had hoped and once the two front tires were in the mud it didn't let me work the vehicle to a spot that I liked.

P.S. i wonder if you aired down first and then loaded the bed with weight after the Gladiator got stuck if it would have been able to climb out. Was a real test. The AEV Gladiator did well. Bottomless mud with a hard vertical that literally stops the momentum can only be beat by just ramming it. An old beater with an extended angled bumper could beat that. A nice, expensive Jeep could have done it, just not worth the damage it would cause...

Why correction brackets and not longer control arms. Correction brackets is a cheap way to go at this price tag
@aevnate4140
@aevnate4140 Жыл бұрын
Longer control arms will fix the caster that is lost when lifting a vehicle. The same is true with our Geometry Correction brackets. If you look at a stock Jeep the control arms are nearly parallel to the ground and control arms fail to do is correct the angle of the lower and upper arms causing the axle to not only move up but forward into the bump. The Geo brackets correct the position of the arms and fix the arc of the suspension to a neutral up and down for the first few inches. The other big area our brackets help is when you brake hard you will have less tail rise and nose dive.

Kind of, don't forget about the CJ6 and CJ8. The wheelbase is always a trade-off. Some obstacles, when offroad, are easier in a long wheelbase, but many times a shorter one will do more. The gladiator might not be the choice for you, but it still has a lot to offer. If you want to take 4 people a dog and camp gear, tow a trailer, or haul a dirtbike, I would say a gladiator would be better than a TJ.

I’ve taken my gladiator through crazy stuff it has a aev 2.5 and 38x13.5 on it. If I lift a front tire, it means it’s a 5 foot hole. Plus the side mirrors can be crushed and will fall apart and press back together. Learned this at Elbe last weekend. This situation he should have aired down, at least the rear, then tried slamming it backwards to get out. Then approach forward at an angle like he should have to lift one tire at a time. Done it enough to know it would work. Zero traction and he wouldn’t be moving at all. They never think to air down more. 20 psi is way too much for any trails.

@@aevnate4140 I have a 4 door Wrangler and love it. I also have a 4wd midsized 2 door short bed pickup from the 90's and there is no comparing the two. One is indeed an suv, the other is 100% pickup. I would never haul our muddy mountain bikes, muddy dogs, dirt, gravel, mulch, and such in my Wrangler. I do have a camper that lives part time on the back of my little pickup for UP and Canadian camping, kayaking, and fishing trips. I had originally thought that the Wrangler would replace our the little pickup but that hasn't been the case for my use. The truck is showing its age though and is getting very tired. A two door Gladiator would be the perfect replacement.

@@skiptheroad I understand, but theoretically, if we did make a 2 door Gladiator and it cost $100,000 and the 4 door option is $87,000 would you spend the extra $13,000? Personally, I don't see people spending the extra cash for less capacity. We have seen it in the past doing the opposite.

They need somebody out there to keep the trail mowed down with something other than a sling blade and an electric whipper snipper. You can’t even tell where to go. Looks like a job for the Lawn Care Juggernaut! Have a KZbin crossover.

Two things I like on mine, the older bumper design has a steep angle, also, 37 spare can fit under the bed, but I probably would had removed it for clearance sake. The biggest problem is the mods were all Mopar. And the college educated nut behind the wheel.
