I traded in our Audi A8 for a loaded up Summit California Platinum with the incredible signature Laguna leather package. Unbelievable how solid and luxurious Jeep has taken the GC. The Signature Laguna leather package has high grade nappa leather on every surface from the bottom of the doors to the air bags. The Laguna leather on the seats are butter soft. A significant jump up in luxury over the Overlander which is no slouch either. I found it more luxurious than the Q7 and the leather is nicer than the last Range Rover we owned. The low end grunt of the Hemi with the ZF 8 speed shifts seamlessly and is not lacking in power at any speed or terrain. From a long time Audi, MB and RR owner, the new top of the line Summit is that good. Way to go Jeep.

TheMystro1971 I test drove a summit the other day, the interior dash was chintzy, the nav screen was extremely small, the digital aspects of the dash were very limited in configuration, the driver and passenger seat adjustments were very limited (6 way power seats in 2018?) the plastic controls were cheapish, no auto hold? If the car had auto hold I would have overlooked my other gripes but they removed this feature so I said no way.

These are great vehicles. My father has a 2013 Grand Cherokee TrailHawk 5.7L V8 he bought new. Not as luxurious as the Summit, but closing in on 100k miles with no issues. We have been pleasantly surprised with this Jeep, comfortable and unstoppable in the snow.

Update after a few months: To recap, I own this exact Summit California Platinum with Signature leather. In other words every option you can get. After owning a Range Rover Sport and many Audi's, I can honestly report the Summit in its ultimate high level is actually more luxurious. NO plastic any where , not even on the lower door trim pieces or any lower interior pieces like all the German SUV's. Even the aribags are covered in genuine nappa leather. The Signature leather is the finest I have felt and way better than what the standard leather you typically get in a Summit or Overland. Ride is every bit as good as the A8 it replaced in my fleet. Prepared to be shocked because this is not like any Grand Cherokee ever seen before it. This quality of materials puts the Escalade to shame. GM just doesn't source this high quality of leather. Audio system blows away the system in my old A8 and Adaptive cruise control works perfectly in heavy traffic. The Hemi with the ZF 8 speed tranny has the Summit cruise effortlessly all day long at 85mph with plenty of punch to blow up way past that if necessary. Put it in "sport mode" and it feels like a sport sedan faster shifting, lowered suspension with gobs of low end torque. After a family road trip and a few months of ownership, not a rattle, squeak or wind noise anywhere. The interior makes you feel like it is a very special place you want to spend time in.

My husband and I are in the market to purchase a new vehicle, and he wants a BMW, and I want the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit with everything but the rear DVD system. I thoroughly reviewed both vehicles, and watched countless KZbin Videos to see what the interiors looked like, and I managed to persuade my husband that the BMW is junk and overpriced plastic and the 2018 Jeep Cherokee Summit is the way to go. This thing is beautiful. Definitely needs to be experienced in person to appreciate it. While the SRT Jeeps are really nice in their own right, they're mainly performance oriented. So if Jeep could make an SRT Summit, (exactly this Summit w/adjustable suspension and all, but with SRT powertrain and brakes) that would be a true Range Rover competitor.

I quite like the Grand Cherokee and while it has the features, there's something that's just missing. The window switches, doors, door handles, and turn signal just feels cheap. Probably not a huge issue to a lot of people, but you'd be surprised how many people go nuts if a window switch doesn't feel right.

Exactly re: this being at a lot of country clubs. I live in one of the wealthiest zip codes in the US in Connecticut AND jeeps are everywhere - grand Cherokees and wranglers. In addition to the reasons mentioned, it is a great car in the snow and it is right-sized. Proper two rows plus a good sized trunk. It is also a great highway car. Lastly, people with REAL money, tend to want to keep a lower profile. In Connecticut, it's the dime a dozen wannabe yuppies that buy all of the bimmers and C classes.

The main reason my dad goes with jeep over range rover is because it's really low key and let's say you get into an accident the person less likely will fake injuries, valets don't expect huge tips, and cops don't pull you over for tinted windows and other ridiculous reasons

Is the build quality and long-term reliability very good? Of course not, it's a Chrysler product made after 1970. Seriously, it's ridiculous how long they've been able to keep going with only 2 or 3 models in their lineup at most being above average. Although Marchionne is still working on phasing out the old platforms, and the new ones haven't been on the road for long enough to know just how reliable and trouble free they'll be, so we'll see. But is it more reliable than the Range Rover with far lower parts costs than the Q7? Yes, almost certainly, and though those obviously aren't very high bars to clear, those are the cars that Jeep is now trying to compete against. As a half-price Range Rover, it really couldn't be more perfect. They probably could make it as bulletproof as an LS500 or 80s Volvo if they threw enough money at it, but there's no reason for Chrysler to do so when they're now positioning themselves to compete with the build quality of brands that only the stupid or stupid rich own out of warranty. The new GC is likely to be far from bulletproof compared to most other family haulers (and let's be realistic here, that's the purpose 99% of these things will serve), but it's close enough that it could lure in plenty of people who would've previously ruined themselves on heavily depreciated used Range Rovers. The only real question now is whether there will be room in the market for a full-price Range Rover competitor in the Grand Wagoneer, especially with a Jeep badge. With Mercedes and Infiniti being far above and far below the Range Rover, respectively, and none of the other luxury brands making a serious ultralux dedicated offroader with similar base and fully loaded prices, the only real Range Rover alternative that falls into a similar price bracket is the Lexus LX, and those aren't exactly flying off the shelves. When was the last time you even saw one that was less than a decade old, months ago? Longer than that? And that's *with* Lexus's reputation for bulletproof reliability, throw the baggage of a Chrysler brand in and dealers will be lucky to sell a single one. A new Grand Wagoneer would be a disaster until and unless Fiat finishes their rebuild of the company's image, which will take at least another decade, and even then they wouldn't sell many and would need to have it be a loss leading halo car, kind of like what Mercedes does/did with Maybach. Nobody will buy an offroad ultraluxury SUV that costs just as much as the Range Rover but is ever so slightly worse, the #justjeepthings internet fans might if most of them even have the money to buy what Jeep sells new already.

The summits have had the adjustable air ride suspension since they first came out in 2014. I own a 2014 and it has it. And the vehicle kicks total ass. I also have a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 and have virtually had no problems with it. I let my wife drive that one.

The people at the country club drove them because they were probably Chrysler execs that either paid next to nothing for them or were given them, not to mention the leases are cheap regardless. You can take that extra money you save and put it towards your house Up North, a boat or a house in Florida. Grand Cherokees are nice but their interiors are nowhere near Range Rover nice, they are however worth what they charge for them.
