I’ve got an ML Mercedes and it has to be one of the best off roaders I’ve ever driven, won’t go for anything else. The ground clearance is actually very good and the ESP 4 wheel drive is very good for tricky surfaces like soft river beds.

God 3 of my favorite cars. All of these are amazing Edit: i took my ml500 off road for the first time ever and it surpassed my expectations by far. Honestly, other than the lack of aftermarket, the ml500 walks all over my old jeep zj both in available power, traction, and just flat out durability. That being said the zj is still very capable and I still love it haha

Well, the 3 trucks seem excellent for off-roading, but I think they were not treated for the difficult part. The ML has a super strong suspension, it is a monster for off road, it offers much more technology and luxury and above all, on the road for me it is a cloud, a paradise. So, I think it's the most complete.

I love my jeep, I swear by them! Got the 3.1 VM engine and people can say what they want but they’re easy to work on and the run on anything :D proper machines!!

That was way back then. Put them off road now with someone who knows how to off road at the controls and see which one wins. Discovery series 2 was never about luxury. In fact it was Land Rover's less luxurious vehicle. Meant for off roading and the Grand Cherokee Jeep's top of the line vehicle. Lol

+turshin Have almost 200k on my 1999 Discovery II in the Kinversand launch color of this video and it's still going strong. Still, most cars just get old and loud and annoying and smelly and in no time get pointed at in a parking lot as a "POS" - I've gotta say, this discovery will always be the cool old British SUV you never see anymore. This era Grand Cherokees and MLs are like CRVs and Isuzu Troopers.. they're not old and cool, they're just.... old.

+Alex Thomas in the states, anything Rover badged is known to break down. you can find them for a few grand on craigslist, all with electronic issues. you find grand Cherokees everywhere still working.

The biggest mistake they made with the new jeep is independent suspension instead of solid axles witch is a huge mistake

The WJ was released in 1998 at about the time of the "merger of equals" so I very much doubt it had anything to do with the ML class, the WK very likely. EJproductions the AMC straight 6 and Powertech V8 were not Mercedes only the 2.7 5 cylinder diesel
