HAHA I know, I know. I don't have gold locks, but I couldn't help but make this connection through finding campsites the past few days. I was reminded this week why I bought the Jeep. That is to get out to beautiful quiet remote places where I can be unbothered. I am currently driving like a grandma until my 500 mile inspection. So, I am spending sometime along the Oregon coast organizing the Jeep, exploring, and planning my interior build.

Pro-tip for all watchers. Always buy Nylock nuts when you can. They hold up really well to vibration over time. I use them on my roof rack for my truck and ten thousand miles plus of 4X they are still stuck in place.

I much rather be alone in the woods, with my dog and the critters too. That's probably why I don't leave Montana very often. There are 4wheel drive trails all over the western US. You could Google most them, or find them on the Jeep forums. Safe travels 🐶🐾

FYSA - for your roof rack solution, stainless steel bolts/washers/nuts/etc. are best as they are rust resistant. Wasn't sure if you were using them - it isn't a big deal, if you are not, but if you find them rusting - it is an easy fix way down the path. You can also just paint them in the interim. Loctite will just help them not coming loose, but not necessarily prevent theft. As for your 500-mile inspection. It is totally worth just having a list of bolts and torque specifications for your suspension system so you can inspect yourself. Checking basic fluids weekly and suspension (if you are hitting hard trails) is something to get decent at. Also having a simple code reader, I use "BlueDriver Pro" - it allows me to at least trouble shoot any codes that come up on the dash. It also recommends fix - so a layman mechanic can easily do the simple repair yourself. Anyways, for "overlanding" basic knowledge of Suspension Stuff, Fluids & Coolant, and trouble shooting will help you feel "safer" on the trail. I saw you had recovery gear, but a tire patch kit, Electric Tap, Heavy Duty Zip Ties, JB Weld (for leak repairs), is good to have on hand. Now if you are going really remote or hardcore - that is where you increase your "self-recovery/maintenance kit." Fun.

Very cool you're doing your own thing...I picked up a 2013 JKU to the same thing with my Corgi Louis... I've replaced all the worn out steering, suspension components, cooling system and charging system. My tires are pretty worn and are street tires, so I don't trust them at all offroad. I'm going to replace them next month, along with my headlights. Once that's done I'm hoping to hit Moab before it gets too hot and gas hits $10 a gallon.

I would have been going postal. They are just rude showing no consideration for others. I would have waited till you knew they were sound asleep and laid on my hour for hours. If they came over and said anything just say oh Im sorry can you hear me over all the noise you guys are making. Well I am a professional horn musician so you have to wait until I finish practicing and this is the only time I can do it.

Do you have a cigarette lighter button on the dash in the Jeep? If you do, roll up some paper and use the button lighter to catch the paper on fire, then start the mini camp stove. WowLah or Shazam. Lol. Trick #2 is a piece of fine steel wool and a 9volt battery, it heats up very fast so need to use a metal folk or piece of green stick to hold on to the red hot steel wool. Tip#3 pack BIC lighters, put one in every piece of outdoor equipment you have. Tip#5 Go ask a near by camper for a light? Buy a ferocium 6" rod to spark a flame.
