Thank you so much!! The mechanic quoted me $600 for only one ball joint (not even the control arm)! I was determined to figure it out myself and I just finished it this weekend thanks to your video 😁 My car feels like I'm driving on a cloud! Thank you so muchhh 💗

Hey Clay, the tip to apply weight under the ball joint to line up the vertical bushing bolt was very helpful. You da man! Subscribed 👍🏼

2010 Jeep Compass, was told by my oil change place that the grease zert on the passenger ball joint was damaged. So probably going to get it replaced, along with an inner tie rod end on the same side I was told is going bad by my usual tire shop. Trying to figure out if I want to do this work myself or not, video is very helpful in showing the process

You have more equipment than I do, I have a floor jack and no impact tool. So it’s probably gonna be a bigger pain for me 😅 but I’m trying to teach myself how do some of my own work because I got quoted $220 for the inner tie rod end, granted that’s parts and labor. I’m just still trying to decide if this is something I want to tackle myself or let my normal shop do it for me

Great video! Question though, my captive nut for one of the bolts broke loose and now the bolt just spins. What options do I have? I am thinking cut into the subframe to access the nut but I don't know the best area to cut in. THoughts?

You're from Texas but you live in Michigan. Why? Oh maybe you don't like snakes. Did you say grease zert? I've said zert my whole life until I heard somebody call it a zerk. Good video my son's Compass has something loose on the front passenger side. He already replaced the swap bar bushing which helped but something else needs attention. Now I just have to find out where to get blueberry jellybeans. Happy Motoring.

I live in Michigan for my Family, my wife tried to Dallas out for a couple years two or three different times during our 28 years together.. even though I love the people in the south far more than I like the people in the north there’s a lot of good folks here to. But I’m here for my family. Yes, it did say grease ZERT That’s what I call them ….. I also invented a game called The ZERT ….. basically when you’re walking behind your significant other you take three fingers and oil check them as quick as possible while yelling ZERT right as your fingers touch cloth… …. It’s hilarious and lots of fun…… it can be over done though, so be careful… From the sounds of it, you may also possibly need a strut That’s very common with the compass, so check that out. Welcome to the channel. Very happy to have you

I hear ya. We will have 15 grand children by September and most of the family is here in the Jersey. It's not bad except for the commiecrats that run the state.

@@sharpcarco Me too, I have been saying Zert all my life. When I heard someone else say Zerk I went and looked it up because I was going to tell him he was saying it wrong. Oscar Zerk has the patent on the fitting we call Zert but he really improved a fitting that the Alemite Manufacturing Corporation had been making since 1919. He did invent a lot of stuff. Here's a synopsis that I found on line. Zerk visitied Cleveland in the US in 1907 where he founded a company to produce an early version of what became the familiar Zerk fitting. While he was not the first to envision forcing grease under pressure into joints and bearings, his designs were very good. Unfortunately, Zerk's business acumen did not yet match his engineering prowess and in 1913, he was forced out by his investors. The start of the Great War found Zerk visiting his home in Austria and he was compelled to join the fighting, mustering out in 1918 as a decorated army captain. He married a local girl and the pair returned to the United States, where he became involved in the Allyne-Zerk Company. In 1924, Allyne-Zerk was purchased by Stewart-Warner, which also owned Alemite, a market leader in lubrication technology ("Alemite" actually became a verb meaning "to lubricate" for a while in the 1930s), and Zerk became a stockholder and consulting engineer. In 1929, Zerk created a refined version of his lubrication nipple and assigned the patent to Alemite.

The 21mm boots and nut only get torqued down under load via jacking up the control arm correct?

Are the ball joints able to be removed ? Or does one need to buy the whole arm ? Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
@EGL24Xx2 жыл бұрын
For this control arm, you are not supposed to replace the ball joint, you are supposed to replace the entire control arm.

Hey man! Any other way I can contact you if I have any questions? I’ve seen your video on struts, ball joints and the control arm and i need all that done. Not a very experienced mechanic but I have the will to be one and I’m just trying to take the initiative and get it done while saving money at the same time. Let me know!

Hey Clay! GREAT VIDEO man! I have a question though, I've got a 2011 jeep compass, same type of setup under the car. I hear a lot of people talking about the ball joints going bad, however I have discovered that I have a bad bushing in the back of my control arm inside the ?cradle? (I believe that's what its called). Is it possible to replace this bushing so long as the bolt is ok or would you recommend replacing the whole control arm unit? The arm is still in good shape
@sharpcarco5 жыл бұрын
Hey Joshua good evening thanks for the kind words I greatly appreciate that. If the part is available to purchase at your local parts store then replacing just the bushing must be a pretty common occurrence. If it’s only available as a control arm then you have to replace the whole thing. With me it’s kind of hit or miss sometimes I will replace the bushing without replacing the control arm but if I can afford to replace the whole control arm generally I will do that because things start to loosen up when you take them apart. And sometimes and I’m not 100% for sure Off the top of my head on the jeep patriot or the compass then bushings can be a pain in the butt to get out. I hope that’s a helpful answer for you thank you so much
