I've watched several videos of people installing shocks on their YJs. You sir, are the first to use a torque wrench. Bravo!!!

Nice install video! How do you like the ride with those new Bilsteins?
@JeepSolid8 жыл бұрын
+TrailRecon They make for a nice ride. I can definitely tell a difference. Really smoothed out the hard bumps!

I was hoping to see how you torqued the front shock top to 19 ft lbs. while holding the hex key in place. Can I assume you just "ballpark" that one?
@spider_hoss3 жыл бұрын
I can just see myself using a ton of PB Blaster to get off the old shocks.

I have 5100's on my YJ. A million times better ride. One of the best upgrades I have done for it. Just ordered a set for my wife's LJ.

Great video. One question..do you need to put a jack stand on rear while doing the rear shocks?
@cycl0nnus3 жыл бұрын
how are these shocks vs old man emu? do you recommend these bilsteins?
@michaelbennett92968 жыл бұрын
Tip: When I did this on mine, the bottom bolt was seized but the top bolt slid right out... On one side, I cut the bolt, but on the other, I found it easy to take the top off, put a wrench on the bolt, and turn the shock back and forth to free up the bolt. Once it was free enough for my impact to spin it, I spun it until it was free, then hammered it out.
@michaelbennett92968 жыл бұрын
Rear, that is... On the front I just took a Sawzall to the top bolt.

That's great Michael! Thanks for the tip.

I’ve heard that the bolts holding the upper bar pin in place in the rear are prone to breaking. Any tips? Are bar pin eliminators helpful? I’m looking at replacing the shocks on my 2001 wrangler tj. Thanks!

Hi. Can you perhaps tell me if the front and rear shocks of a Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon (2017), fit and work on my Jeep Wrangler YJ (1991) ?? Hope someone can tell me! Thanks @ all ;)
@matthewgarrison16786 жыл бұрын
Why are you mounting them with the boot up? Isn't that upside down? I know they are mono tube so it probably doesn't hurt, but just curious if there was a specific reason why.
@JeepSolid6 жыл бұрын
The design on the front shocks, with the stud, dictated how they had to be mounted.
@cycl0nnus5 жыл бұрын
how are the bilsteins holding? is the ride smoother vs the older shocks? thx

I like them. I noticed an improvement in sharp bumps, but still drives like a Jeep. LOL😂

What are your thoughts regarding the removal of track bars?
@JeepSolid6 жыл бұрын
Jury is still out on that one for me... I see the value and purpose of preventing lateral movement of the axle, but on the other hand, I hear of people getting better articulation with it removed. So, I'm not sure. Have to do some more research on that one...
@SC-ml3vw6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the quick response. I’ve been reading and watching everything I can find on the subject to only conclude that there are good debates on the subject. I’m not a hardcore 4 wheeler so I think I may try it. I’ll let you know what I experience.

I'm new to all this. Why the Bilstein shocks compared to other brands?
@JeepSolid8 жыл бұрын
They are a well know, proven, tough shock that comes with a lifetime warranty. They can be a little more expensive than some others, but you get what you pay for.
@The_ClayDayz8 жыл бұрын
+JeepSolid oh ok. How do they compare to the stock shocks? Softer ride?
@JeepSolid8 жыл бұрын
Yep, they really smoothed out the ride. I noticed most improvement on sharp, hard bumps, like hitting a speed bumps.

+JeepSolid if I get the Jk sport, would you recommend getting the original changed out or wait until they wear out?

You’ve had the Bilstein’s for a couple of years now. How are they performing and how do you like them at this point? I put a 3” lift on my ‘90 YJ and used the shocks that came with the lift kit. The bumps make your spine almost explode out your body it’s so harsh. I’m going to remove the track bars and want a good shock to install to smooth it out and make it more enjoyable to drive. Your feedback would be helpful.
@JeepSolid6 жыл бұрын
I am happy with them and would buy them again. They've held up well and smoothed out harsh bumps. But, still drives like a Jeep. Haha.. I have 3.5" lift. Linked the exact shocks I purchased in my video description on my shock install. Thanks for watching!
@herbiesnerd6 жыл бұрын
JeepSolid thanks for the reply. I removed both track bars last night and took it out for a 20 mile on/off road spin. What a difference. Holy crap. I even brought my wife along for an unbiased opinion. Way smoother. I just added the Bilstein’s to my Amazon shopping cart. Can’t wait to install them. I bought Corbeau Baja XRS suspension seats to help also and they are really comfortable and bump absorbing as well.
