Hey y’all thanks for watching this video, didn’t think it was going to take off like this, haha my voice sounds so horrible here, was suffering from allergies, my apologies, cheers!

To avoid the messy drain situation, I made a drain pan that fit just under the transfer case and rested on the skid plate. The pan was made from a plastic tray from fast food joint about 5" x 7" and 1 inch deep. I drilled a 3/4" hole inline with the large hole in the skid plate and added a small plumbing fitting into the tray hole and hot glued to seal it. This tray diverted the oil over to the hole in the skid plate and into an awaiting container. No mess.

I like your idea , what I did was drilled a hole under the drain plug in skid drop a small kitchen funnel in the hole ( fits under drain plug ) put a piece of hose on end of funnel to the drain pan . ZERO mess to clean up and works perfectly

Thanks for "cracking those plugs loose" before filming the actual video. Im trying to figure out how to remove my very tight fill plug without damaging it. Would have liked to see you do that with a 10mm allen key and a 10mm wrench. Cant get mine with a 1/2 drive.
@ATEMOFFROAD3 жыл бұрын
Jeez that one is really on there huh? , Allen key worked great! I didn’t use a 10mm wrench Im combination with the key I used a piece of pipe on the end of the key to get leverage and break loose, a little bit of heat also won’t hurt, Wether it’s metric or standard find the one that fits the tightest! Good luck 👍🏼 thanks for watching!

@@ATEMOFFROAD Its a 10mm. I have the actual 10mm key socket for a 3/8 drive wrench with a reducer that will hook it up to a 1/2in driver. There is evidence of someone beginning to strip out the plug at some point in the life of the vehicle and then leaving it when they realized what was happening. Hopefully the threads arent galled and I can get it out. Id really hate to have to buy another t-case just for the chain cover.

@@edwardnigma6568 that setup is optimal, should have no problem there! 👍🏼 there are several ways to remove that plug without total replacement of the case half, unless totally damaged! Bummer to say the least! One option is if you have a welder ! Weld a nut to the plug! Or remove the case half an easy out the plug! (Removal Can be done on jeep) Also you could remove the speed sensor and suck the two quarts of atf out from there and drop two quarts in there too without even removing those plugs, but you will sacrifice the o ring on the sensor, if you go that route get a new one! Just saying you have a ton of options! Whats best for you! Keep me posted on what you did! Good luck to best judgment in regards!

There has to be a cleaner way. Could you rig a drain hose to a fitting with a barb?

So... this is a manual transmission Jeep though right? Mine is a manual. My owners manual says ATF as well but Im still unsure. Just making sure Im positive . Ive already bought the fluid.

💥 nice, yes manual gearbox, so the atf is used for the transfer case not the gearbox!

the plate holds up the transmission, so taking it off would make the entire process more difficult and complicated than it needs to be

@jim Bellonzi Hmm interesting, I wonder if it’s pre or post 96, a lot of changes were made that year , 97 was first year of tj but my tj was born Aug of 96 so a lot of parts were left over from the YJ , this is why when people look at my jeep they get all freaked out! EFI and obd 2 of course , could this be why?

No . Too much work to remove the skid plate. Make a small tray to divert the oil to the large hole in the skid plate. Small tray fits under the drain and on top of the skid plate. Drill a hole in the tray at the location of the skid plate hole.
