I bought a bolt-on bull bar for a Suzuki jimny on summit racing, and the bolt holes on the bull bar line up perfectly with the TJs factory bolts.

Really good job.............TIP : wipe down with paint thinner instead of alcohol
@ATEMOFFROAD Жыл бұрын
Good tip i usually keep some of that around as it may be better for metals, but for a dollar a bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol I’ve had really good success with it 👍🏼. Thanks for watching! 🍻

It’s a little late but it looks great and what we did to add extra strength was welded on a 2x4 square tube on the front and basically capped the ends at an angle like you did. Plus our D-ring mounts were welded on the outside and inside of the stock bumper so we had no bolts. Only added about 10 lbs, but the real benefit was having enough space to integrate a winch mount plate and still use the stock mounting holes. It really beefed it up!

What size steel did you use for the end caps you made? And the insert that you welded inside
@ATEMOFFROAD3 жыл бұрын
3x3 x 3/16 wall tube, cut into channeling 3/16 flat stock, but you could use from the tubing scraps too! Thanks for watching

Why not weld the tow links into the bumper? Seems like a risk for recovery purposes with just a bolt and lock washer.
@ATEMOFFROAD Жыл бұрын
I actually was going to and I still can, but then I thought, there must be some strength in the design or they would have never been made to bolt on in the first place, so I just went along with it. I probably should weld them, but I’m curious to see if they actually hold up I just haven’t needed to use them yet. 🍻

Have you yanked on the D rings much since this build? Any twisting of the bumper?
@ATEMOFFROAD3 жыл бұрын
No major yanking of the Jeep there yet , I have lifted the jeep form there a few times with a hi lift - that’s it, going to be installing a winch on it real soon ! The winch will be its main source of recovery! There are some really nice winch plates for the stock tj bumper! Thanks for watching
@e.fish.ent.fishing25522 жыл бұрын
Would the stock end caps work after you’ve cut it?
@ATEMOFFROAD2 жыл бұрын
No there wouldn’t be enough room, they would be stopped by the frame!
@stevegranger8183 жыл бұрын
Those D-ring mounts are just for show, right? If you tried a recovery using them, they'll most likely rip right out. D-rings should bolt to the frame in order to be safe.
@ATEMOFFROAD3 жыл бұрын
That’s correct, I have a winch for recovery. those mounts hold my d rings and look great! Would I use in a pinch of course in certain situations, I have absolutely used them already. but I don’t expect them to be stronger than anything welded to the frame, limitations are definitely considered here and that something strong is better than nothing! Thanks for watching! Cheers 🍻

That bumper looks pretty awesome! Are there any plans for a winch plat to be added to the bumper?
@ATEMOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
NotICON 💥 nice , thanks for watching, I really appreciate it! Yes a winch plate will be added for sure , we are still saving for that, but Is definitely in the budget , we are hoping to get a curry anti rock sway bar kit as well as a nice winch, can’t wait to get this build going!

@@ATEMOFFROAD better watch out, the wife's Jeep might just become more awesome than yours. My fiance got a Jeep a few months ago, and Im already looking at it as another build. We are gonna be so broke

NotICON haha exactly, Just Empty Every Pocket . And that’s the plan, we can choose which Jeep or both and go wheeling , we are about 25 minutes to OHV and an hour from the mountains, we are actually going to go for a day trip around hwy 4 corral hollow tomorrow at 8am lol

Great video.. seen it several times.. I also have a TJ and going to do this What bolt size did you use for the bumper and where did you purchase the bolts at???
@ATEMOFFROAD3 жыл бұрын
Awesome thanks for watching, the bolt size I want to say is 1/2-13 by 1” 1/4” long grade 8! I picked those bolts up at my local hardware store Ace hardware! Home Depot or Lowe’s is a rip off but you can find them there too! 👍🏼
