Jeep Wrangler TJ Lower Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement

This video is for a Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997-2006 with a hard top.
This video specifically shows you how to remove and replace the Lower Liftgate (Rear Glass Window on a Hard Top) Seal or Weatherstrip. This rubber seal separates the rear glass and the tailgate creating a seal between them. Old seals dry rot or get damaged and cause leaks. TOOLS Suggested: Heat Gun, cleaning rags, degreaser / cleaner such as Simple Green, a narrow plastic scraper or panel tool (see reference in video) and optional silicone sealant. The reason we highlighted "suggested" tools is because each time it varies on what you may need to use to ensure it is cleaned, so you will see us working through it in "real time" due to the variability in nature on the adhesive. For one liftgate you may need a little more "scrapping effort", heat or cleaning solution. Thank you for watching.
The Liftgate seal for this video was purchased on Amazon. The product reference number is APDTY 140033 (Auto Parts Direct To You). It is called a Liftgate Lower Rubber. Other names are LiftGate Lower Weather Strip or Lower Seal. This replaces item number 551175042. Please ensure the product you buy fits your vehicle.

Thank you for this! I have a Wrangler with a lower liftgate rubber (thanks for the proper term) that desparately needs replacing and the cost to get it done at the dealership, well, I'd have to sell my right arm! I think I can do it myself due to your video.

if you're trying to figure out which way the new rubber goes, line up the angles on the ends with the angles on the retainer.

Rubber wheel for removing decals in the drill takes that rubber right off !

The retainer on my 2003 TJ is broken for about 8" on the drivers side. I ordered a replacement with weather seal which match exactly. How do I remove the retainer without breaking the glass and what holds the new one on since it didn't come with any adhesive. Thanks for an informative video.
