Great video as usual... Tip / trick... If for what ever reason you do opposite his suggestion of removing the drain before the fill and end up having a messed up fill plug, in emergency, you can removed the shifter boot and the shifter cover and fill it that way...again... in emergency cuz it is kind of a PITA...but doable...

Which reminds me... I do need to change out the tranny fluid... Not spending $20 a bottle though... I used Pennzoil Syncromesh after I had my AX15 rebuilt and haven't had any issues at all... I'll used it again too... $8-9 a pop...

8:50 NEVER overfill a gear box or diff. let it drain down to the level and drip out until it stops. it was designed to be at a specific level per manifacture levels. if you don't, the oil level will be too high and you will have problems like axle seals leaking and input shaft seals leaking etc. let it drain down and THEN screw in the drain plug.

New subscriber here I love Jeeps. Great video! I have recently replaced all these fluids in our 2019 Ram 1500 truck and I used Red Line MT-LV in the Transfer Case. I've heard great things about Redline in the Jeep community (my '24 JLUR is too new to need fluid changes yet) so I wanted to give it a shot. Mopar OEM fluids for the TC in our Ram are very expensive and I had a hard time finding an aftermarket version that would be compatible. But, Redline pulled through. So far we've been running it for the past few weeks and everything is great!

What fluid would I use for my 4.0 Automatic Transmission 1993 YJ?
@ManicPandaMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have been doing my homework..and I have finally bit the bullet on my 94 jeep Wrangler YJ 2.5l with an ax5 transmission with a 2001 jeep TJ 4.0l with a automatic transmission..(before you think WTF..just keep the 2001 TJ.. can't do...it was a part out and another dilemma, I don't know if I have the info needed to change the PCM from an automatic that it is into the manual transmission that I bought for it) the dilemma, I bought the bell housing for the ax-15 to swap out the automatic for and the AX-15 (just received all of it) from advance adapters.. First question ❓ What starter do I need..does it change rotation because of the automatic to manual swap (location of the starter between the auto and manual transmission?) 2) CAN You/I bypass the damn PCM and make the wiring harness more simple..or do I have to remove the wiring harness from the 2001 TJ and use it and throw away the YJ wiring harness and PCM and get a new plug and PCM for the TJ wiring harness and go through hell rewiring my YJ? I saw your video of the 4.9 engine swap you did..can you lead me to the video you made to mount the new frame brackets for the 4.0 once I get the 2.5 brackets off the frame.. And did you fabricate the frame brackets or did you purchase them and from who.. Please 🙏🙏🙏 and Thank YOU 🤗

Awesome video! I was planning to change my 95’ wrangler (2.5L) transmission fluid soon and I read in the owners manual that GL-5 lubricant is the recommended one for the AX-4/5 transmissions. Should I ignore that and pick up a GL-4 lubricant or is the manual correct? Thanks so much!

If your TJ is a stick shift, it’s gonna have the same AX-15 five speed as the YJ So MT90 would be perfectly fine to use

I have an NSG 370 six speed in my 05 TJ. I'm really worried about what fluid to replace it with due to the super fragile synchro rings and unfortunately all the service manuals I ever came across or bought have the recommendations for the NV3550 5 speed. Would you recommend the same MT-90 fluid with GL4 or is there something else I should look at?
@JeepSolid6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's gonna take some research. Have you asked on the Jeepforum?
@amichael34016 жыл бұрын
I've looked into different posts made throughout the years. There's no real consensus on the issue other than what I already know that it has to meet MS9224 standards. May just end up going with amsoil as that's what a lot of posts say they used. At this point I've kept my jeep running strong for 12 years and 160k miles I just want to make sure it stays reliable for a few more years without any major issues. I would like to eventually swap out the NSG for a AX15 but I'm currently limited on time, funds and space to do that kind of work.
@amichael34016 жыл бұрын
Update: Redline DOES make a transmission fluid that meets these standards, it's the MTL GL-4 gear oil. This one meets those MS9224 standards, I know this video is geared (pun intended) towards AX15 but I figure I'd mention it here just in case anyone goes delving into the comments for more info.

Hey! Let me know how this stuff does! I bought it and drained it thinking it would fix an issue of mine that it didn't, so I tried another- well the issue turned out to be a yoke seal and I never got to try it with this stuff post-fixed- so now at 100k Miles after running 90w I finally decided to give 120w a shot and it was WORLDS better and quieter (I went with Royal purple since I didn't wanna spend another 80$ for mtx lol
