Spot on indeed. I'm originally from Belgium and a friend of mine haf one of the early types, the one with the little window in the back in the form of glasses, worth thousands of dollars now in Europe...Great car though... he took it on vacation filled o the brim every year, from Belgium all the way to Yugoslavia as it was still known then, now Croatia. A few thousand miles and he spent little on gas, he was a real penny pincher... wished I had one to sell now...

Coupe de Ville doesn't mean anything BUT Coupé de ville means a hartop car - but coupé car meaning has evolved so much since 1940 ies - made for cities as in Tenue de ville for formal wear in Soirées Chic. Cadillac Coupé de ville , I believe , was choosen by GM motorists only because it sounded well, luxurious , classy , select and élégant ! American motorists often are choosing french words when they want to emphasize the elegancy of a car : La Parisienne ,

I'm sending this video to my father, a mechanic who can usually fix anything with an engine. Its perfect. His specialty? Volkswagons. His addiction? Volkswagon buses. Love of his life? Undecided. His favorite quality about his spouse? Not sure, maybe her beauty since she's a classic, maybe her interior, maybe her rear end, headlights, or shine, but I think its when she doesn't try his patience, give him any problems, or tell him the way he repaired her is wrong when he's working on her or fixing her to run just right. He just wants her to listen the first time so he can sell her & purchase his next project. Nevermind the lady inside the house who says she's his wife.... My dad, my hero & most stubborn man I've ever met taught me the value of a dollar, hard work, productiveness, taking care of your things, never giving up, & having a hobby. His wife... She's a damn saint! Her quiet, still, relaxed calm, patience, love, acceptance & understanding, who knows when to disengage...she's priceless!

My 1st car was a 1968 AMC Rebel. It was a full-sized 2-door sedan with a small 6 cylinder engine. It went from 0-60 in March (Please note - Not February or even April. It needed that 31st day to get to 60! I also had a 1972 VW Squareback (Think "Stationwagon Bug") &, yes, the heater was extraordinary! On January day 3 friends & I were going somewhere & 1 of the guys in the backseat complained about being cold. Without saying anything (but smiling at my best friend in the passenger seat, I quietly reached down & put all of the heat to the backseat & turned it to High. In just a couple of minutes, the backseat guy said "Can you turn down the heat? My sneakers are melting!" 🤣🤣

Had a junk car for 5+ years while paying off student loans and never once thought twice about parking next to that a**hole who parks on the line so that he/she can't get in the driver side , since I wasn't worried about them wanting revenge; then I went out and got a new car and the first time I tried that I realized what I had done and immediately moved to a new spot.

My first car was a 1965 Chevy Impala- 4 door! This is true; I went to my local Unemployment office to do some business. I parked in the parking lot in a parking stall, when I came out of the EDD office to where I parked my car, the front tire, the driver side, WAS ON the 5-6 inch high cement curb! And on the ground was the aluminum corner trim with a small gash in the middle of it. I told myself What did they hit my car with? Another '65 Chevy? That is the honest truth. To this day I have no ideal what happened. And no, there was no other damage to my car.

My Dad made the mistake many years ago of buying a 4 seat Geo Metro for our family of 5. We about tore that car up. First of all, 3 cylinders is never enough. Thats nothing more than a souped-up moped. Secondly, they put a 5-speed manual transmission on it. With an engine that weak, it shouldn't have had more than a 4-speed, because you rarely use 5th gear with a 3 cylinder engine, there's just not enough power there. There's a certain hill coming out of Ozark, Arkansas on U.S. 64 that we travelled often. Most stick shifts can pull that hill in 4th gear, some maybe have to go to 3rd....our Geo Metro?? 2nd. And barely crawling up the slow lane! You MAYBE could do it in 3rd if you had 3 people or less on board. And you can forget about air conditioning! I was ELATED when he got rid of that hunk of junk!

My first car was a '61 VW bug, 10 years old. First gear slipped, so I had to hold the stick shift going up a hill until I put it into 2nd. The heater was wired into the "on" position, and yes, I remember how HOT it got. I also remember how weak the headlights were. They did NOT shine down the road very far. When I was in labor with my first child, my visiting mother decided to drive us to the hospital via the freeway...in my VW. (She was used to her Pontiac Grand Prix.) If I hadn't been in such discomfort, I would have enjoyed all her complaints much more.

Was it still a 6 volt battery? I had one in grad school and we carried a flashlite at night to go shine more light :-) really!

My first car was a Dodge Demon with a slant six. Then a Dodge Dart. When I was 18, working my first full time job, I was promoted to department foreman and they more than doubled my pay. I went to the Pontiac dealership and bought a Firebird from the showroom floor. They opened those big glass doors and I drove it out onto the street, feeling king of the world. Wish I still had that car. I still have dreams about it and that was 42 years ago. A buddy of mine once said, "remember high school, when every guy had $100 car with a $400 radio?" Now that was funny, and somewhat true. Nowadays, kids are driving Mercedes and Escalades to school.

I remember my dad owning a '59 Pontiac, then a '65 Olds (don't remember the models). Then, a year before I got my learner's permit he bought the brand new '68 Firebird, hunter green with a black vinyl roof. That's the car I learned to drive on (along with my instructor's '68 Mustang). Within 2 years he had to trade in the Firebird because he was getting too many speeding tickets (despite the short wheelbase it had a very smooth ride and going down the highway you didn't always notice you were doing 70+ in a 60mph zone). So he traded it in for a barely tamer Grand Am (he had turned 40, so I guess he decided to dial it back a bit), and then a few years later with a growing family settled down with a Buick LeSabre. A loyal GM man to the end. RIP, Dad.💔 I miss our heart-to-hearts.

@@kalypso36b Lucky you! If I remember correctly, that firebird had the 400 engine. A buddy of mine had one just like it, hunter green with black top. His may have been a 1970. I guess they didn't change colors every year like they do now. Those are awesome memories!

My dad had a very long white Cadillac in Germany beginning of the 1970s. I still have photos. Those were real cars. Nowadays u could not find a parking space with them. They were called Strassenkreuzer in Germany. Street cruisers.
