When I met him I was in a very difficult time. With depression and no treatment, I couldn't talk to anyone about my feelings. I had stopped talking to my mother and she didn't know the reason and honestly I didn't either. I was angry and at the same time I felt nothing, it was a complete emptiness in which I could not leave. I listened to his songs reminding me of things that had never happened. Two were times when his melodies, his words were almost the last I'd hear. I never had a heart broken by a boy, so his songs are not dedicated to me but I see that there is a deep grief in them. Nowadays I am doing well with a treatment that I have completed, next year 2 years. I keep hearing their music that makes me more passionate every day at his job but leaves me with tight heart. His voice gives me goose bumps and his words are worthy of a beautiful poem. Ah if he were alive. It would have been a rock star.

"I know it's over and it never really began" I interpret this song (and video, crucially) as the mother figure not being real. The boy never knew her. As a child, he imagined her and talked to her in his head, hoping one day she'd come home, but she never did. Now he's growing up, he realises he can't hold onto this naive belief of his and has to let her go, but he keeps coming back to her because without her, he's completely alone. He tortures himself over it, feeling he's not worthy of love because his mother abandoned him. As a kid, he believed that there must've been a good reason she split on him and that sooner or later, she'd come back. But the older he gets, the less and less he is able to entertain this fantasy. Still, he continues to talk to her, this ghost, this pretend hope of his, being the only person he's ever been able to console in. But he's beginning to accept that it's all in his head, that his mother can't really save him from his own demons, so he continues to helplessly cry out to her, "oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head", but she never talks back...

@patsyb63 nope it has nothing to do with that Morrissey always sings about loneliness the song is a man who's lonely and never been in a relationship so he feels like life isn't worth living cmon man he's deeper than that but some people thinks that it's too taboo to speak of things like this. I was born 6 years after he passed away but his music had a way that has never made me feel, soul touching and powerful, I don't want to say goodbye so I'll just say thank you jeff ❤️

He was such a great vocalist. Raw and uncensored. His ability to embody a song is what made him special. Even when he misses a note or the pitch is a bit off, it is still magical and feels real, right and human. That being said, I don't think Buckley would have appreciated what seems to be a poor autotune job done on his vocals on this version (0:30)...

To be daring and impulsive, is a beautiful thing about the creative spirit. It takes chances in love and life, to often conquer those fears, but sometimes those chances will end in hurt. The sea wants to take me.

For guitarists: this is tuned about a 1/4th step down from standard and is played with a capo on the third fret. It uses the same chord shapes as the smiths version (based on the open c chord) its C, Am, F, G

I hate listening to Jeff Buckley, and not because I don't like his songs, I fucking love them. I hate it because I've always tried to be a strong person and listening to him makes me so so sentimental and I... just can't

I never knew Jeff made a cover of The Smith's song. And it's intimate and beautiful.
