Imagine her surprise when she discovers Jeff is blind! I had the distinct privilege to see Jeff Healey play while stationed in Germany 🇩🇪 in the 80s. We were the a group of Americans in a small German beer haus with approximately 200 Germans. I say we're probably the only 8 Americans because as we stood 10 feet from the stage we were the only ones going bezerk after every song! Actually after a couple songs Jeff announced the names of his band mates and as we were screaming and carrying on Jeff point down at us and said'"These people here must be Americans because they are carrying this whole venue so thank you for being here you guys!" I was stunned!! Being recognized by the Great, and I do mean GREAT, Jeff Healey!! It was an incredible evening one which I'll never forget! R.I.P. Jeff!!!!

To add what was said below, he died in 2008 from ocular cancer (cancer of the eyes, the same cancer that caused his blindness). But yeah, he was phenomenal. He was from Toronto (my hometown). One night my buddy (who knew Jeff personally) and I went to a tiny club to watch another bluesman named Dutch Mason and Jeff showed up near the end of the first set. After a short break, Jeff did the second and final set with Dutch. It was incredible. Even more interesting, a few years later, Jeff switched from blues guitar to jazz trumpet and was equally incredible at that, too. He was a giant recognized by music giants, but gone way too soon. He was only 40 when he died. He's still talked about in Toronto.

I always loved Jeff Healey he had some beautiful songs ,born in Canada a jazz player he gravitated to the southern rock/blues and excelled. Being blind just elevates his status, he played at an exceptional level and definitely a top 10 player in my opinion. You are as beautiful as always, thanks for keeping Jeff's music out front for the world to experience.

Jeff Healey lost his eyesight to a rare cancer when he was ony 1 year old. They actually removed his eyes and he wore ocular prosthetics. I read that he was given his first guitar when he was 3 years old and played it on his lap because his hands were too small at that age to wrap around the neck to reach the frets. A truly amazing guitar virtuoso! So sad cancer came back into his life and finally killed him. I think he was 41 when he died. You should definitely check out all the songs recommended in all the comments! Loved watching your sincere amazement! ✌❤

I was fortunate to be able to see Jeff play several "open mike" nights on Yonge St in the early 80s. I clearly remember one night attending one such night at the "Upper Lip" A few friends were in a band that played there. We got there early and Jeff played by himself. He was simply amazing. He used to take the TTC to Yonge St and go to his usual haunts to see if they would let him play. We were once sitting on a patio at the Eaton Centre and heard him playing at the Colonial. We ended up watching him play that evening. He is such an inspiration even without knowing how determined he was in those days.

Enjoyed your reaction. I remember when he was getting really big my friend who was in a Montreal band was at my place and I said have you heard of this guy Jeff Healey and my friend told me he knew him and sometimes did gigs with him. Then he told he was coming to town soon and if I wanted to go meet him. Of course I said yes and not only did my date and I meet him but we were seated at his table with the band but also with a few other members of other bands. One of which was a member of Supertramp. He was a really nice guy to get to know a bit that night.

Your reaction was priceless...literally lost for words 🙊 Once again, great attention to detail, yes, the band was smokin'...the late, Dr. John on keys, including some of NYC's top session players. So much better than his own trio👍 A virtuoso guitarist, with a singular guitar technique, great voice & composer, including his jazz trumpet abilities...one of our greatest 🇨🇦 ♡ Back in the mid-'80's, we caught him in a smaller establishment, before his breakout, fame. The last time I saw him alive, he walked into our local blues club, alone...like the Red Sea parting, by himself...just as Rick Derringer finished his show. Unfortunately, they never jammed.
