Here is a Tidbit for you Mr Ed and any one else into Bee Rescue, Always use a red light when recuing bees. (Hot Hives = Bees that are super quick and defensive for any one who wondering) I Mr Ed will know what I meant lol But yeah try the red light if you have to shine any thing on the bees if its dark. So, I didn't even think of this, yet during your explanation of the goldenrod the bee's took pollen from making the yellow caps, my question ended up being: a hive can have a blend of flowers? so, it makes sense, yes? are there hives that only have specifically one type of honey? because...and here comes the gist of my question: when I go to the store and I buy "goldenrod honey" it really can't just be THAT type of honey, can it? because there are always so many bees in a hive, it nearly ALWAYS is a blend, right? This was a great removal, I pray Tammy can keep on top of it all, and have success on her new bee adventure! Thanks for sharing Jeff, it's always a joy to watch you work!! xoxoxox
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
In a way, it is always a "blend" of nectars/honey in a hive because the nectar source can be coming from so many different plants. However, depending on the time of year, there will almost always be a prevalent nectar source and this is why honey is labeled the particular source of nectar/honey. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching and for asking your question, it was a good question. God's peace Melanie. Mr. Ed

My granddad kept bees for his apple trees and berries and his very large and productive vegetable garden and he made sure they stayed close to home all season by seeding his huge lawn with white clover to last them through the winter. I always read your description as you put little nuggets in there and save me the time of a question! Glad the colony was saved! Just a thought for your new beekeeper: order a new queen now. You will want to split them early and slowly build to three colonies, which most beekeepers agree is about the minimum. That way you will have a colony to raid for brood or eggs if something happens to that beautiful queen! To have three very healthy hives by the end of a first year from a cutout would be a good target. You are always so good at these Mr. Ed, but in this one you had protection - of a sort - and a new beekeeper! Way to spread the love!

What happens to a queen that gets separated from the group and you can't find her when you do a cutout.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
If that unfortunate event does happen, which is very rare, the queen will perish. However, once the bees have been set up, they can make another new queen, and the colony will continue on. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. What do you do with the wax and honey from these types of hives?
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
The honey is most often given back to the bees as they need it to survive on. However, when there is a surplus of honey, it is given to the monks to consume. The wax is rendered and used in our bee operation at the abbey.Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
